Alphacool today unveiled the Eisbaer Solo Chrome DIY pump+block, a variant of Eisbaer Solo that features a chrome mirror-finish body along three out of four sides, and the top, with a clear acrylic window covering one of the sides. You plumb your own coolant tubes and radiator to the contraption, which combines the functionality of a CPU water-block, a 70 l/h pump, and reservoir into one.  A simple idea. I'd like to see some reviews before I make any further opinions.

Who thinks that having the pump part of the water block is a good thing as far as cooling performance is concerned? Not me. I wonder why they don't make a DIY radiator with radiator/pump/reservoir built into one unit. That would make more sense (and wouldn't create an ugly boxy waterblock).

Interesting if this does this not fall under the Asetek patent for a having the pump in the cpu block.  if not having a radiator attached gets around this could we see manufacturers include a design like this that would just utilize quick disconnects and separate the radiator?

Problem I see is airflow.  I'd want the space around the CPU to have good airflow.  Particularly the VRM areas   Some MB have a heatsink So I guess it wouldn't matter.

This Pump Unit Cools the CPU Very Well.
The Black Version but is the Same Pump Unit.
Alphacool Eisbaer 360 CPU Water Cooler - Black  I have 3 and one Spare.

Alphacool Eisbaer GPX Extension Set with Straight Connectors  Standard G1/4” Threads
Works Great with TF8 or Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Thermal Grease Paste - 5.0 Gram
No Air Flow Issue, this unit is the Smaller than the Socket, Maybe 1/8 inch larger than the CPU.

Do not use this Pump Unit with the der8auer Socket Plate

Swiftech has had the Apogee Drive II out for awhile now. It's a pump on block design also.

These must fall outside the patent restrictions asetek holds and goes after legally with any infringement, my understanding was it was any cpu block with an integrated pump. It looks like alphacool has got around it with the eisbaer expandable AIO too.

I just thought it was interesting as it could open up some options in the AIO field and get rid of the inline pump in the tubing some companies are using to get around it. It looks like a cool option if that’s the only spot available for a pump in your system or ease of use if you change the cpu out regularly.

    This is a Pump+Block+Reservoir Not just a pump+block
Asetek Patent Invalidated in the Netherlands, Likely EU-Wide 2017

Today (September 20 2017) a Dutch court in The Hague has ruled European Patent 771 to be invalid in The Netherlands for 'lack of innovation' and thus Cooler Master not to be infringing.
According to Dutch law Asetek is automatically liable for the 130.000 euro process costs.
Cooler Master Europe is registered in The Netherlands (probably for tax reasons) hence the Dutch venue.
Coincidentally but not related, the European Patent Office is in The Hague as well.

Asetek Loses Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Cooler Master

    byRaevenlordSep 20th, 2017 13:34 Discuss (8 Comments)
Asetek, a company known for designing water-cooling solutions for PC hardware that it sometimes licenses to other manufacturers, has lost a patent infringement lawsuit it had levied against Cooler Master. The lawsuit, which looked to impede the sale of Cooler Master products Nepton 120XL, Nepton 240M and Seidoen 120 V v.2, stated that Cooler Master was infringing on Asetek's European EP 1 923 771 patent, which describes a water cooling mechanism. This Asetek patent, filed in November 2004 and finally approved in May 2015, is in itself based on Asetek's older, US-bound patents.
However, The Hague's court has accepted Cooler Master's argument that they too have a similar patent to Asetek's, through a so-called "utility model" that already exists in China, which describes (and patents really show their problems here) the "operation of a water pumping engine device with chamber". The The Hague judge also invalidated Asetek's patent lawsuit on the basis that there was not enough inventiveness to it. Asetek and Cooler Master's legal battles aren't anything new; in 2015, a US-based court ordered Cooler Master to pay Asetek $600,000 for patent infringement. This time, it's the other way around, even though it was still Asetek that started the legal battle: the company now has to pay Cooler Master for their legal expenses, which amount to around €113,000 (~$134,204)

The EU court had it right. Our own Courts, not surprisingly, wrong,

A patent on any generic device that has both pump and block in a single enclosure is ridiculously vague and should never been issued.
