Thanks for the reply. I will give the version of CC a try. I think all the rest is in order and fingers crossed it will light up!! As for the door, did you get yours operating? i hear you can reset the MIO if the door fails to lift. Thanks again

''I know that you mentioned that it has power but, What I've read is that the MIO only checks for a genuine Alienware MoBo if it doesn't have enough power, so that is the key here. Have you modified the 10 pin power supply cable? Ensure your MIO have an orange led on, indicating that it has power. '' Im currently doing this build and have a very similar setup as to what you have done, But just wondering what did you do by modifying the 10pin connector to the daughterboard? Iain

Thanks for your reply. Im lost then as I have power to my motherboard but not the daughter board(no orange lights show). However the white leds work on it. I thought you modified the power connector for it to work . Im using the standard PSU that came with the case aswell and have plugged the usb 1 and usb2 into the motherboard (asus rampage extreme iv). Maybe im just unlucky and got 1 that has new firmware and wont work without alienware mobo?!? Regards Iain

Before assuming that your MIO card is not working, please be sure that you are connecting the right USB. So forget about all the front panel USB's cables and isolate the one from MIO card, so you can easily test against each USB connector on your MOBO. It is easy to confuse cables as that area is really messy! Then remember to install AlienFX software, making sure you stop the firmware update.

Hi Iain, My door doesn't work, and to be honest I haven't put an effort to make it work, I'm very busy now... About your USB's, the Asus Rampage IV doesn't have enough USB ports so I bought an internal USB hub so I have full functionality on my front panel (apart from the Fireware... which I don't use) I'm happy to know that your system is working!

It all depends on you to be honest. But the factors that I considered before upgrading my 5 year old PC were: - New Technology: I did this upgrade almost 6 months ago, Haswell the new i7, was far in the distance. I think the new i7 is about to be launch, well, about March-April. If you can wait, then do it as the new i7 looks promising, more if you match it with new Nvidia 700 series.
- Application: The applications that I’m using on my PC tend to have better results with Sandy-Bridge, rather than with Ivy-Bridge, hence I picked the x79 i7 3930K instead of z77 i7 3770K. As a result have a look of the applications that you are going to use, and check their performance against the platform you are considering to buy.
- Budget: Here it is all about what you want to spend. I can’t help you here.
- Life cycle: I tend to buy a new PC every 4 or 5 years, so I tried to build it as future-proof as I can. You can easily argue that the Ivy is better on this aspect than the Sandy, but in my case, the applications performance was more important, hence my decision. Also I learn that Intel is planning to launch the Ivy-E on LGA2011, the same as Sandy-E, so hopefully my MOBO is going to be compatible…
- Proven technology: I tend to buy things that are in the market at least for 5 months or after the first drivers upgrade/servipack was launch so I now that I’m not going to have compatibility problems on my hardware, particularly between MOBO-GPU-RAM-CPU. Just to wait for a proven technology, as I’m not a PC professional, as I don’t enjoy to carry on testing’s.
- Follow your PC Guru: You can find a multiple websites that provides help, each of these forums have a technical Guru, particularly for your favourite application. They tend to share their PC life cycle, give you hints, technical support and match their hardware with the properties of your application, so you will be guarantee a good result on your investment.
- Because I can or Because I want it or Because I like it!!!!!: At the end after such analysis you can end up buying whatever you like, for example an Alienware ALX case that might work ;-)
Sorry to take such a wide answer, but I thought it could be valuable to you to know how/why I made my decision. I'm pretty sure someone can argue every point here, but this is a 6 months old analysis... So in order to answer your questions: 1) Yes my CC works (apart from the door) 2) I would prefer to wait for the new processor, even all up to July 2013. Even if that means keep worrying to know if my Alienware case will work. 3) And I will keep Windows 7, I won’t update to Windows 8, not before at least the first servipack. (Particularly for you as the CC is not an W8 software, it was designed for XP, bear in mind that!) Good luck with your MOD, Jcmmg

I hope you don't mind if I revive this amazing thread do you? I am doing the exact same as you @, I got my Area 51 ALX case less than a week ago now and want to get building. It came with the stock PSU, and main I/O board! I wanted your opinion on motherboard, as I want to get the "Asus RAMPAGE IV EXTREME Intel X79 Socket 2011 Motherboard", I've heard from other forums that this breaks AlienFX and motorised vents all together, but I don't believe it. Do you think this motherboard will work? Or do you have a better suggestion? Also may you please elaborate further on how you attached the motherboard to the backplate? Cheers, Jordan :^)

Hi, you have taken some really nice photos of your Alienware Area 51 ALX machine. I was wondering if you would be able to take some more photos but specifically around the top air vents as I am trying to work out how they have done it so I can incorporate into my custom case. Sorry, I would have PM but restricted by the Admin at this moment. From your photos I can only just see that each vent is pushed open by the one alongside but I can not see what pushes the first one. Any more photos would be very great. DD

Hi, I really need help with my alienware area 51. My goal is the change the power supply for an ax1200 to run quad gtx690s. I don't have much modding experience btw. The thing I cant seem to figure out is the wiring that i have to replace for the new psu to work. All the wires that are connected to the stock battery are connected together. Any advice for changing the psu? Thanks.
