ASUS today unveiled its highest-Wattage variant of the ROG Thor line of premium power supplies. The new ROG Thor 1600 W Titanium comes with not just an enormous amount of power, but also the latest connectivity, including an ATX 3.0-compliant 16-pin connector that ASUS specifies can deliver 600 W of power. There are also as many as ten 8-pin PCIe power connectors, two 8-pin EPS, a 24-pin ATX, and a dozen SATA power connectors.

Under the hood, the ROG Thor 1600 W Titanium uses high-end GaN FETs in its switching circuitry, and a single +12 V rail setup that meets 80 Plus Titanium and Cybenetics Titanium efficiency. The 135 mm fan can stay completely off until 800 W load, thanks to an array of heatsinks designed by ASUS, which along with the low overall noise, earn this PSU Cybenetics Lambda A++ acoustic rating. ASUS is backing it with a 10-year warranty. The company didn't reveal pricing.

The 16 pin cable for GPUs like the GTX 3090ti and next gen GPUs makes this an attractive purchase. What will the price be?

i don't see any 16-pin connectors on the PSU side, and no place for the additional 4-pin sideband pins.

another fake/hacked implementation of 16-pin connector that's not true to spec.

Are we to assume that they are using old renderings for the pin out pictures that were released?  Even the Asus website has these conflicting images (vs spec)

Asus really needs to do a better job here as there has been too much confusion around their new ROG PSUs since ROG Thor II's were announced in Oct 21.

And I just bought the 1200W...  This will be fine for a future build though.  No doubt the price will require extensive saving too.

1600w... click. Hay this asus PSU sucks and is junk, it keeps tripping my 15a breaker.

OK joking aside who needs this? I can see the need for 1600w in a GPU powered server with tesla cards and 2 or 4 CPUs.  But gammers don't need 1600w any more, miners are more likely to buy a cheap junk PSU. I'm betting its for the 5 folks out there SLI'ing the 3090ti with a dual CPU board with massive OCs and the other 10 folks that have to have everything with the money to buy it?

I think the only major hold up from not getting a 1600w would be from a cost perspective if you are on a tight budget for your build.

Just because it is 1600w doesn't mean it is pulling 1600w from the wall.  It is AC current so the power would be pulled by the PSU (not pushed from the wall).  You will get peak efficiency with that Titanium rating when at around 60% load... So if your system really only uses around 960w on avg, you are doing it right and taking advantage of that 80 Titanium rating.

    Some other reasons:
    • Future proofing
    • More bandwidth for peak load
    • Typically higher quality components in those 1600w units (which benefit power performance)
    • Increased lifespan
    • less noise
    • less heat
Going back to maybe another reason not to get this would be if your system power usage is considerably less than that 960w avg, you will not benefit from peak efficiency, so it would probably make sense to go lower wattage in that scenario.

Curious who the oem is of the power supply and if it is digital or analog control.

BTW, adding a 12+4 pin to this PSU doesn'trant the 4 pin will be useless. Easy enough to add in the circuitry necessary to report the current state of output for a give plug. Wouldn't be worried about that.

Only 20 amps on the 5 volt rail makes this an unattractive purchase for me.

For 1600W and Titanium rating that wouldn't be an unreasonable price to ask.

1600 W?  have heaters that consume less...   O.o

well..   lets see what the future holds in terms of W consumption...

was not expecting all this huge increase in consumption..

I saw some comments online of people saying it's seasonic, but that seems suspect considering they don't have a 1600W offering.

true to that!  even the SEASONIC PRIME series do not have 1600W indeed...  only 1000W tops!

and strangely i bought a "simple" psu for a friend in need ( hes low on cash)
the G12 GC-650W (80+ GOLD) from SEASONIC for his low - mid tier set up....

BUT cant find no reviews of it... anywhere! i find it very odd!!
