I do not think ASIC is useful, if anything it allows some users to make themselves feel better (or worse) about their purchases as if price and performance alone wasn't enough.

TrekCZ
ASIC quality is not meaningless, it is significant number. If one has lower ASIC number = worse card, this number determines how card will boost - and because current Nvidia cards are based on GPU boost number has important value.

Lower value means that you have for your money lower quality.
I have e.g. 69% GTX 780, which is not very good and my max stable overclock is boosting only to 1189MHz. Normally I would return such a bad card to retailer, but I bought the cheapest GTX 780 available so I do not care.
58.3% is very bad card.
If you truly believe this, then what would say about my GPUZ screenshot since you can't just disregard it because it doesn't fit an accepted range?

You are using a ridiculously old version of GPU-Z which had known bugs in ASIC quality checks.

My GT 640M LE has an ASIC of 77.2%, it's still a piece of junk although I can push
975MHz Gpu Core (500Mhz stock) 1175 MHz Memory Clock (900 Mhz Stock) and I get a stable 35-60 FPS in BF3 (not on high) but my i7's cores hit 89 degrees C pretty quick like that
the thing choked on BF4 and gets 8 FPS in Fire Strike though haha....... hence the 4930K x79 mobo and Kingpin 780 Ti
hoping for a good silicon draw

Ouch, 89 on an i7? That's definitely in the scary range for me :S

Yea it's a laptop, it scorches which is why I have this 230MM fan under it at all times
got it down to 80-85C now after hours of BF3
GPU never hits over 75C though

ASIC quality has been important to determine the quality of the gfx card for OC under air or water-cooling method.

if not mistaken my gtx760 SC is 80.4% and i can confirm it is a relevant NUMBER because i got a sweet oc from it at...
well at least at mem level i did.

as far as gpu core it reaches about 1.27GHz with no hassle on boost witch is a decent number considering it already came oc'ed from factory reaching around 1.23Ghz.

not bad from a card that is 980MHz at stock value....

guys why bring up a topic that was coming up on 4 months old?
(ALSO of course his GPUz was out of date{now} it was NOT back in nov  2013) 7.4 was around Nov 2013

About as legit as The Windows Experience Index. :)

On gtx700 cards boost is depended of ASIC, temperature target and power limit. Low ASIC = low boost e.x. 780 SC ACX (bios 967/1020) with 60% ASIC boosts only to 1071 MHz, with high ASIC may reach 1137 MHz, on low ASIC cards basically you need more voltage to achieve the same clock. Also in 780ti lower ASIC = lower vid.

OC on low asic cards is very often poor over 80C and getting worse from lower temperature than on high asic cards. You have to keep low temperature and generally higher voltage on low asic card. That's the reason why extreme oc is very often the same, although for every day use is better to got a high asic card.

I have got two 780 cards one could work at 1176 MHz at 1.10v (ASIC 89%) second card has the same clock at 1.163V (ASIC 60%) and nothing more on her standard voltage. I like to see the same clock on both cards  and that's the same clock like on my old 680, I am used to see 1176 MHz

Man people are still on about this foolishness. It should just be removed from gpu-z and then no problem at all.
