The recently announced AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT only features a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface according to specifications and images of the card published on the ASRock site. This is equivalent to a PCIe 3.0 x8 link or a PCIe 2.0 x16 connection and is a step down from the Radeon 6600 XT which features a PCIe 4.0 x8 interface and the Radeon 6700 XT with a PCIe 4.0 x16 interface. This fact is only specified by ASRock with AMD, Gigabyte, ASUS, and MSI not mentioning the PCIe interface on their respective pages. The RX 6500 XT also lacks some of the video processing capabilities of other RX 6000 series cards including the exclusion of H264/HEVC encoding and AV1 decoding.

It's a lower tier video card at a lower price point so the video card doesn't need a lot of extra software/hardware bling in my opinion.

Both AMD and NVIDIA are releasing lower end cards to get something out for that market.  For consumers with nothing, tight budget, really old GPUs, or dead GPUs these are an option.

I just hope that they will be available for those that need them.

Certain people / places are saying it is just basically the 480 card being re-released again ....

While I very much disagree with that analysis, it does prove an issue I have been complaining about since turing came out. Turing was one of the worst gen jumps in terms of price performance, and Ampere was not really any better. Course, im not taking inflation into account when I say that, but still.

RDNA2 still fills out volume especially with untapped 6nm into the low-mid range where there has been a glut of gpus available.

With it not taking capacity from 7nm, and the small die size meaning plenty of yield, I do have high hopes for the card to and least put a floor to the awful GPU market we have today.

Also comparing flops between GCN and RDNA blindly like that is misleading, since GCN has a bubble issue (which made the fine wine analogy possible, where driver updates kept making it better) that RDNA does not.

Well to me it feels like Intel kinda pulled a fast one on all of us, since the ARC series won't be coming out anytime soon... but still got AMD and Nvidia all rattled up and made them release budget GPUs... Ohhh it's the 3050... been out for a long long time in laptops but lets bring it out for desktop PCs... while they do seem to kinda suck and overstate themselves they are the only options for some. Still... wait a bit longer and the new generations will come out this year... now thats a punch line.

I really wish they just released on the same date. If I can't get the RTX one I'll go for the AMD one. Really want a PC rig soon.
