Now that is one overly huge cooler in my personal opinion, even for a TR4 socket CPU. No doubt this is now ready for Threadripper 2 and its extra cores. Cooler Master says that the Wraith Ripper will not only ensure sufficient cooling for AMD’s 32-core CPUs, but will also guarantee compatibility with memory modules featuring tall heat spreaders. I think this is one the biggest CPU air coolers I have ever seen.

This will be very heavy. I have an old/discontinued Cooler Master N620 CPU air cooler (similar design) and that thing is heavy. My concern would be for the mother board and the strain from the weight in that area. Just under 30 ounces.

I still have the N620 mounted to a board and that is my back up rig. The cooler does a great job keeping things cool but it is a dust collector.

I like the design but I believe I might be inclined to use a 360 radiator style AIO cooler.

This design will move air. Mine did.

I was looking at the cooling selection for water and there isn't much for a selection. I hope this changes soon. I'm partial to Corsair AIO.

I'm more for some Server version of Noctua coolers.
Now Noctua will pain in black as well.

I predict little economic problems for Intel after AMD Threadripper 2 and 2800X show up soon.
Intel was bad against some part of customers and hurt me a lot because excluded me from i7-8086K.
I'm probably among part of people 1000-2000 of them,
who know and understand best value of that processor and for some customers that's only chance for money or switch to AMD.

I don't want to say don't buy Intel but you will look stupid if you invest in processor before Ice Lake and 10nm show up and security bug fix completely.
And I can't see how Intel could show up with something better. People are right, they are in bad, period and I even think that Intel could delay some of stronger processors to avoid humiliation buy AMD.
Intel didn't ready... still they are not ready to gave up from higher price and launch insanely cheap processors who cost how much he deserve in comparison with AMD.
They still think to pull you from your wallet 500-600$ more than AMD CPU for some similar models because glory in previous years and slight dominanced in applications who use 4-6 cores. Than it's cheaper to buy AMD Threadripper 2 and i5 with Mini ITX board than Intel high end CPU.

But I would not be surprised if tomorrow show up some experts who will say Now we have evidence, Intel was in advantage because ignored security side of processors and because AMD made mistake with Bulldozer. Intel dominance could finished before 4-5 years, 3-4 years after Nehalem. Only AMD didn't had product.
Now Intel is in similar situation and if they not show up with new generation AMD will drain their Zen core and improve him and Intel will not be able any more to compete with 6 cores and 4.8-5.0GHz frequency.
Even now some people estimate that Intel worth of shoping because clocks some people can't even reach, they estimate them as average clock, frequency only capable to set with good AIO systems and watercooling and delidding.
I don't see how I could upgrade platform before 2020, special Intel. I don't believe that they could show product good enough.
I more think that for same price I would be able to buy AMD with 4-6 cores mores with 2-3 fps less on 4K.
New Threadripper in games will be 5fps weaker than Skylake-X, and it's 3 times faster than i9-7900X. 300% stronger, 2200 score vs 6xxx score in Cinebench.
Some people say that AMD will maybe ask only 1399$ for him. Do you know what that mean for people who have i9-7900X or even i9-7980XE and who need serious platform.
32 cores ready for 4K gaming, 250W power consumption, not 500W as OC Intel.

This is Amazing Noctua NH-U12S DX-3647
NH-U12S based heatsink with new Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM fans, silence on 2000 RPM.
People who change their Noctua fans on older coolers with him get 5C better temperatures, 2 fans. Even people with 140mm
Noctua could used adapter and hold 120mm fans with hair pressure for radiators and big fins.
Same model have for AMD Threadripper only need to be replaced fans. Or maybe Noctua even have mounting mechanism for this model.
This is heart breaking because Noctua didn't use Redux fans color scheme.

I'd buy one if it was an updated version of this cooler. This thing just didn't care how much power I tossed at it. It kept everything cool even at significant overclocks.

The only reason I bought a new cooler is I couldn't figure a good secure way to mount it to the tr4 socket.

Cooling science hasn't quite gone far enough, they have to go with bigger and bigger conventional radiators instead of coming up with something new that cools the same in a smaller package.  Even water cooling just moves the radiators from on top of the CPU to the perimeter of the case.  It's still essentially air cooling with water being a better middle man than heat pipes.

why didnt they go with liquid cooling? that massive air cooling will take up all the space inside the case?

I think I read that the processor doesn't come prepackaged with a cooler, so you aren't stuck buying it if you do want to go with water cooling. They're nice enough to leave cooling preference up to the buyer.

top mounted water coolers are popular as they work well at cooling even 250W processors

you need a big chassis to handle the dual 140mm models but there are more modest models with one 120mm fan for rear mounted situations
