hello i built a new computer with an evga gtx570 and gave my son the 9800gt i was using, I also bought a pair of 32"lcd tvs to use as monitors, on mine theres no problem at all, but with my son's i cant get to work the audio trough hdmi connector on th 9800gt. i was hoping to use the built in tv speakers instead of cramming his desktop with wires and such.
any help will be greatly apreciated.
thanks.
Milton

btw. his pc its a vanilla HP pavilion a1250n , pretty basic motherboard.

Do you have the SPDIF cable running from the onboard sound on the mobo to the vidcard?

Got some stuff in a plastic box that's makes my screen turn on when I push the button on the front, cool.

I think it's aliens, but I'll have to confirm with voodoo do-er on that.

ok so the motherboard only has 1 coaxial S/PDIF in the I/O panel its says:
"Coaxial S/PDIF Out port. This port connects an external audio output device via a coaxial S/PDIF cable"
Is this the connector u mentioned earlier? and how do i connect it to my 9800GT?

    Thank you

If your motherboard does not have the internal SPDIF header (normally 3-pin), then you'll have to use the external and route it back into your system to plug into your video card. You will need a SPDIF bracket (to connect bracket to 9800gt internal) and a SPDIF cable (from io panel to SPDIF bracket). Both can be obtained from ebay for a total of $15.

Actually, you can fake it out using the front panel connections that are on your mobo. Follow this link to your mobo, dude, this was not easy to hunt down, HP doesn't want anyone to actually understand their mobo's.

Manual, here: http://www.ctechinfo.net/manuals/amberine_manual.pdf you'll see you have two "audio out" connections, those are for the front panel, if you have said connections on your tower's front panel.

Just plug a spdif cable into it and experiment to see which gives your TV the best sound. So, go from one of the two "aud-out" connectors to the vidcard, and the audio through the HDMI cable should be working.

Good luck man, hope that works for you.

You can't use the Fp audio output for SPDIF. There is a standardized interface that needs to conform with signal level and impedance. To use something other than may damage the motherboard and or video card. The same is true for the AC97 and HD audio panel.

If you want to do it, use the bracket connecting to the SPDIF as I recommended.

If that's the case, then the OP should just get a coax cable and run it to the TV, I mean, there's already an HDMI cable running to it, zip tie the coax to it, that's not exactly "cramming his desktop with wires and such", the HDMI cable is already there...
