Hi,

If i buy an RTX 3080 and its a FTW3. My non modular PSU has 2x 6+2pin and 2x6pin pci express. I will use the 2x6+2pin but for the other 8pin slot if i buy an adapter, is it ok to buy a 6pin to 8pin adapter or is it preferable to go 2x6pin to 8 pin adapter?

Thanks

If they use the same wire gauge, either will be fine.  A 6-pin and an 8-pin connector are essentially the same, as long as the 6-pin connector doesn't skimp on the wire gauge.

ASRock Z77 • Intel Core i7 3770K • EVGA GTX 1080 • Samsung 850 Pro • Seasonic PRIME 600W Titanium
My EVGA Score: 1546 • Zero Associates Points • I don't shill

Thanks! Maybe a two 6pin to 8pin will be more sure to deliver all the power needed? Is there a way it could deliver two much power?

Definitely use a 2x6-pin to 8-pin adapter, if you don't mind the appearance.  I think it isn't needed, but go ahead.  You can't have too much power.  The card will only use as much power as it needs to use.  The only reason why I suggested the single 6-pin to 8-pin adapter is because it would look better, and I have no concerns about using it.

Just spoke to EVGA tech support, and they said if you use a 6-pin to 8-pin connector then you run the potential of frying the cable, causing damage to the GPU and power supply, since a 6-pin is rated at 75 watts vs an 8-pin at 150 watts.
They did say however that I CAN daisy chain one of the two 8-pin connectors, which will only drop the power draw by about 1-2% overall without risking frying any cables.
I've gone ahead and ordered the female 8-pin to dual  male 8-pin connector from amazon.

It's a little more complicated than that, but if you're forced to use a 6-pin connector, I have to wonder what kind of power supply you plan to use.
