I currently have a 3090 FTW3 Ultra. My power supply is a thermaltake 850 watt. I currently am using one 8 pin, and then for the remaining two 8 pins it is a singular cable that has two 8 pins, one daisy chained to the other. I ran this same daisy chain on my 2080super and had no issues at all. However, I recently heard that this was a bad thing. I do have another cable that came with my power supply that I could use to make all the 8  pins dedicated. Should I switch to this or does it not matter?

Also, a totally separate question HYDRO COPPER GAMING waterblock as a standalone, or will it only ever be with the card.

Requirements  On the EVGA product page

Three available 8-pin or 6+2pin PCIe power dongles

30 series pulls more Watts than 20 series cards

Use GPU-Z & see how much you card is pulling

When or If Hydro Copper - Block will drop ... no idea

Yes I am aware it needs 3 8 pins, I have the card. I was simply asking if using a daisy chained 8 pin is harmful or not. Here is a picture of what I mean.

I would run Separate PCIe cables for each power socket on the Card - from the PSU

Many ? most ? PSU manufactures - do not suggest you use those pigtail PCIe on high watt GPUs

No, don't do it, potential causes damage to your GPU and PSU

We get this thread every day.  Look through history and you can read about it as much as you ever wanted to read.

    Short version
Group 1   You technically don't have to use 3 seperate ones according to one of the best and most costly power supply manufactuers.
Group 2   It's a bad idea to not run a 3rd and use the pig tail instead
Group 3   The 3rd cable is like 5 dollars why not just run it and not have to worry who is right?

What if you use that style cable but only use the number one plug. Is that considered one line. The splitter in my mind if not being used shouldn't effect draw right?
I am using one of those as my 3rd cord because I didn't have an extra solid one with out the daisy chain.

Using one connector on the split PCIe is Fine

3 cables = Better OC if nothing else convinces you (voltage stability)

My FTW3 Ultra pulls 400W under max load. Each cable is rated for 150W. If you’re using 2 cables, one pigtail, you’re going to exceed the capacity of one of your cables.

    Will it work? Yeah.

    Is it recommended? Nope.

If you can run 3 cables do it

Thanks for the confirmation I was worried about that ever since I started reading certain threads around here.

I have a spare EVGA 8 pin. I could mail 1 out to you.
I bought a set not knowing the PSU comes with 2...

Buildzoid and de8auer already disputed this. They do not experience the same results using a quality power supp that doesn't experience voltage drops.

That being said, I get no difference whatsoever on my RM1000i.

I decided to run 1 dedicated and 1 daisy chain for better and easier cable management.

Whatever works for you is fine by me

Big difference between Can & Should

Check with your PSU manufacturer - they know their hardware best

Me, I always use separate cables - while running several multi-GPU computers  24/7 & OC ---> Folding for the Greater Good
