I would establish the actual need for more RAM before I set out on a quest to buy, much less find more RAM that's compatible..If you're unsure, you can grab
AIDA64 Extreme Edition (free trial or pay) and set it up to log Memory % Usage and then go about gaming and/or doing what you do on your PC, then check the log file to see how much RAM was used..Log whatever else you want and for as long as you want such as GPU Usage, GPU Used Memory, Used Swap Space, CPU Usage, Voltages, Temperatures and more.
I had a EVGA 790i FTW with 4GB RAM, Q6600 @ 3.6GHz, EVGA 9800 GTX, WinXP 32-bit and absolutely could not get it to use over about 80% of the 4GB..Let me tell you I tried..Just for kicks, I played L4D2 (which was my newest game at the time), had multiple browser sessions open, had a movie playing (WMP muted), had my programs running in the system tray (anti-virus, SpeedFan, EVGA Precision, Real Temp, Logitech Gaming Software), all at the same time (lol) and still would not use all the RAM or even have issues playing games.
The most important consideration would be is if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit OS..Over 4GB of RAM with a 32-bit OS will never be used, ever.
If you're using over 90% of your 4GB, more RAM might benefit you, and go with the suggestions above..It may turn out that by adding RAM, you would be breathing nothing into the system except money that could be better spent in other ways..A 790i can be very picky about RAM.
