Sorry if this has been posted already but i was unable to find exactly what i was able to find.

I'm buying a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU this next week and I would like to overclock it, but I have no idea how to do it. I've been told that this chip can easily OC to ~3.8GHZ. I'd be totally fine with 3.2. I would like to do it through the BIO's if possible and I was wondering if someone would be able to help me. I've also downloaded the EVGA overclocking tool that you can do through windows.

Here are my system specs
Evga 750i SLI FTW motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66 GHZ CPU
6 gigs of Corsair DDR2 1066 XMS memory
2 x 2GB 5-5-5-15 (slots 1&3)
2 x 1GB 5-5-5-15 (slots 2&4)
Evga 9800 GTX 512MB video card
650 watt PSU
BIO's version E175-SZ1K
Window 7 Pro 64 bit

All BIO's settings are set to default since I just updated them.

Thanks in advance.

There is a "sticky" thread at the top of this forum that tells you what to do.

I would also suggest to NOT use any Win based or the overclocking tool.  It's really easy to make the neccessary changes right in your bios screens.

what cpu cooler are you using the stock 1 wont be good enough for overclocking

also dont put the 2x1gb sticks of ram in just use 2x2gb, will be much easier to get a stable oc

to oc your cpu, do the following (only if you have a aftermarket cpu cooler do not use intel stock cooler)

    1. disable thermal management, intel speedstep, C1E Function in bios under cpu feature

    2. then go to frequency/voltage control, Fsb & memory config change your

FSB - Memory Clock Mode to linked
FSB - Memory Ratio to 3:2
    FSB (QDR), Mhz to 1600

    3. then go into Memory timing setting if you want and set your ram timing to expert and set your ram to whats its rated for (or you can leave it on opitmal if you want)

    4. next go into sytem voltages and set your,

CPU core (dont go over 1.3625 intel recommends, i reckon upto 1.4 is safe if your temps are fine) try current value then work your way up 1 notch at a time until its stable

    CPU FSB set to 1.3v

Memory set to what ever your ram need for 1066

these settings will give you 3.2Ghz on your cpu and your ram @ 1066Mhz

use coretemp to monitor your temps (http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/) and use prime95 (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205) to check for stability

as i said in my last post only use the 2x2gb of ram it will be easier to oc that way

Check out these two vids. It's not the exact parts as yours, but they are a great guide to the BIOS for that board. I OC'd to his instruction and it never failed. This guy rocks

Part one. Starts out with some yadda yadda, but goes through every part of the BIOS
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9wLT0JM77k

Part two. finishes in the BIOS, and does some OC'ing
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkBspNT7fuc

Just remember, when OC'ing in the BIOS, baby steps is the key. Bump it and test, bump it and test.
