So I've been out of the loop for a minute and without tracking down all the data sheets, I would just like to know the core differences in these boards.

I know the 680 and 750 are dual SLI with the 780 being Tri-sli. But what are the main other differences? Bus speeds, OCability, Ect.

I just want to put together a simple system for friends to play on, I have enough spare parts to build a rig with just mobo/cpu/ram I'm leaning towards an E8400, and would like to get it to at least3.5ghz-4.0ghz on air.

I still have my main rig with a 790i, rocking at 4.5ghz so I'm not a newb to OC'ing. I figured it would be a cheaper way to go to stick with ddr2 for this one, what do you guys think? Is the DDR2 as overclockable as the DDR3?

what do you guys think would be the best cpu/ram/mobo for price/performance/OCability. Last time I did alot of research was when E8600 was a new chip. If there is a better way to go please do tell.

Thanks for your input.

Any reason in particular? I did not hear good things about the Asus P5 mobo's back when I was building my Evga 790i FTW.

I absolutely love my 790i ftw, and just wanted another good base to build on. that's why I wanted to know the limitaitons of the different boards.

I didnt really wanna jump to DDR3 for my guest computer unless the prices have leveled out between ddr2 and ddr3, but last time I looked they were alot different.

I never researched DDR2 either, what is the best ddr2 for overclocking? Can I still run a 1600-1800 FSB linked and synced with ddr2?  I know they made ddr3 that was fast enough to keep up with a 2000 FSB without even overclocking it. I'm assuming this is not the case for ddr2? or am I wrong?

Get a 750 or 780 then. If you need SLI, go 780. The six series has issues with newer quads. As for the RAM, just get something that has high clocks at stock for ease. Vendors don't usually show the IC's the RAM is built with, so it will be hard finding good overclockable RAM sticks.

I would go with the 780i I just switched to the 790i from a 780i board and they seem the same I have the same OC I ran my 780i board at 1800mhz fsb its whole life
