I just bought two GTX 680's (in the mail).

I am currently running a SLI system (2 monitors off of first GPU) with a 9600 for phsyx (2 monitors off of the 9600). With the 680 allowing 4 monitors you no longer need a card like the 9600 to support extra monitors, with a single card.

With two cards with SLI enabled, will I be able to run 4 monitors off of my 680's without needing a 9600? I would like to run all 4 monitors as separate monitors which means I don't want to have to be forced into running 3 monitor surround + 1 extra display if I want 4 monitors. What ports on the GPUS would I need to use to get this?

Is it also possible to on the fly switch from 4 monitors to surround all still with SLI enabled and not having to unplug monitors and moving them to different ports?

Thanks!

Yes, at that point, the 9600 will likely cause more issues than providing benefits (e.g. physx only card). 4 seperate monitors is no problem, just 'activate all displays' in the CP. Seeing that you want to switch to surround on the fly, hookups are most important. I never got involved with the Display Port, so I can't comment on that. The best way I have the Surround+1 set up is all surround monitors on DVI and the 4th (HDTV) by HDMI (4xDVI wouldn't be any different imo). Using these connections allow me to do what you want, but "on the fly" is subjective, it doesn't take too long in the CP to switch and configure back and forth.

If you have any issues, shoot a PM, I might have already been through them :)

I am still confused with what you have posted. In NCP when you select "activate all displays" it disables SLI. Using 680 SLI does this option no longer disable SLI?

To run all 4 displays independant>> go to NVCPL>>Configure SLI, Surround, PhysX>>Select "Max 3D performance.  Then go to Display>>Set up multiple displays>>put a check mark in all 4 displays.  Then click/hold on each one and drag to the position you want.

To run surround with extra display.  This is a different setup in the NVCPL and connections to GPU's depend on whether it's 2D surround or 3D.  For 2D>>you can have the 4 displays connected to any of the 4 ports.  If you want 3D surround you must use the 2 DVI ports and the display port for the 3 matching displays and your extra (4th) display connected to your HDMI port.

Similar situation for me.
Sli 680's with 2 monitors and using 3rd card for another 2 monitors.
Soon to have 3 680's on a Extreme11 mobo, so i want to keep my titanium HD card installed, but my monitors are DVI only so wondering if its possible to plug 2 monitors into the second video card while in SLI mode? No surround gaming, i can only focus on 1 screen anyway.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think if you run multiple monitors off SLI'd GPU's, but not in either 3D or 2D surround, then to activate all the displays at once may require you to disable SLI.

Difficulties here with triple SLI and BenQ 2420t's(not 3D)
running in surround, I get one monitor of total 3 (all same) with red lines bleeding down from any active pixels. This makes it not useable, I have swapped cables, and cards, with no common denominator, I get the same thing, not necessarily on the same monitor, and, yes, I am using the DVI-D connectors!
I am thinking there is a software update?

Sorry, incomplete info, from above post. I am running these Monitors at 120 Hz, there are NO issues when running at 60H Hz.

If you haven't seen this yet, take a look.  Very informative for 2d & 3d surround setups. >>>  http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/3dvision-surround/system-requirements
