Hey everyone, just wanted to ask a question about power needs for a new build. Here are the parts....... i7 4770k 16GGB (2x8GB) GSkill Sniper Series DDR3 2133Mhz Asus Z87 Impact Mini-ITX motherboard Corsair h100i OCZ Vertex 450 256GB ssd Western Digital 4TB black 7200rpm hard drive My question is about the power supply I have in mind. It's a Silverstone ST65F-G 650W. Here's the link http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16817256086 .. I would like to run either a 780 or a Titan. I chose this power supply because I want to use the BitFenix Prodigy case and this power supply is only 140mm in length. Another thing I like is that since this PSU is only 140mm in length, I won't have to worry about crimped cabling at the modular connectors. ...but would 650W be enough for a CPU overclock at 4.5Ghz and still have enough juice to run either all the other hardware and a EVGA GTX780 or Titan? I do believe it has enough amps on it's single +12V rail, I just would rather ask for some advice and be more sure in my desicion. If I have to find another power supply or even change what case I get I'm ok with that. Thanks.

You're going to be fine with that PSU even if you decide to buy a Titan and overclock it a bit.

Thanks, but are you sure about that? I'm not intentionally saying you're pulling my leg, but my budget is already tight and I don't want to blow that budget having to return parts. Thanks again.

A 650W 80+ Certified power supply is plenty for a GTX 780 or Titan. I don't see any issues. I gotta point out tho that the PSU you have linked only has a 1 year warranty and costs $109. Why don't you go with a EVGA power supply? Like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438007 $79 dollars, $59 after rebate... 5 year warranty. Just an idea. Afterall, you did say money is tight. I don't see the point in spending on overpriced hardware.

I'm running 2xGTX760 with over 300W power draw together with an Z87 MoBo and i4770k overclocked and I never went over 550W. The Titan draws max 250W according to specification, 210W according to tests so there is no way you're going to lack wattage with that PSU. So yes, I'm 100% positive.

I like it, but I don't think that'll work with the prodigy case. If I did the in to mm conversion correct it's 180mm in length and that's too long. Hrmmm... <edit>Found the link to the spec sheet pdf and it's 164mm. so that'll work with the prodigy case and I'll get that one instead. You're right about spending money on overpriced hardware, there's no point in it. Thanks!</edit>

The max psu length for the prodigy is 160mm, think 4mm would make any difference?

I wouldn't risk it. Gonna be tough. The EVGA 600B should fit, and it's also very cheap. I would imagine that could run a titan without a problem.

Yeah it can, according to Tom's Hardware ( http://www.tomshardware.c...4-review,3519-25.html) At max power draw the Titan draws 266W, divide that by 110 (power supply voltage) to get the amperage draw and it's about 2.5A?? Is that right? If it is, it can run a Titan and fit in the Prodigy! :) Still even though that article states that the GPU power draw was measured by vga power draw only, I do believe the 600B should still be enough to run what I want.

EVGA seems to agree. http://www.evga.com/articles/00722/

Also before you order up all your parts, I just noticed your description says 4TB WD Black. If this is the only Hard Drive you plan on installing, you need to change your build a little. Windows should not be installed on a drive larger than 2TB because of a MBR limitation. I don't know all the details, but I do know that if you install it on the larger drive you'll only end up with 2TB of useable space.. Anyhow, I believe you can still do it if you run 2x 2TB drives in RAID. I'm not 100% on this tho, maybe someone else can chime in.

Ermmmm... You amperage draw calculations are totally wrong :D Even if the card draws 266W it's still nothing compared to 2xGTX760. You won't use over 550W. And that's power drawing from the line, not the actual components wattage. So EVGA 600B should be more then sufficient.

You're right, but I was going to use the ssd in that list for Win7 installation and the 4TB WD black for mass data storage. :)

I find it funny when questions like this are asked, You can afford a $1000 titan, and you ask if only a 650w PSU can power it lol just get a 1000w unit and be done with it, you will be ready for SLI in the future without having to replace the PSU.

Well, I changed my mind on the case I'll be using. Instead of the Prodigy, I'll be using the Node 304, and a Corsair H90 cpu water cooler. Only thing I don't like is that the 600B psu isn't modular so routing cables will be next to impossible. :( One reason I wanted to go with the 650w 140mm psu in my OP is because it's fully modular and Silverstone's short cable kit works with it. I'm still tempted. If it had a better warranty it's what I'd go with so the 600B is it. :D
