hey there, very nice temps on your chip there. have you experienced any kind of downclocking when your temps get up past 72C? I have noticed my chip doing this with my H60. As soon as i opened the window and got cold air in, the temps dropped and the downclocking stopped. I find it strange because i havnt seen anyone else having the same issue as me. i have turned of the thermal monitoring and all power saving features. this is all while being loaded.

boredgunner You might want to pick up a pair of Scythe GentleTyphoon AP-29s, you should get slightly less noise (especially if undervolted, they're great at it) and noticeably better temps. http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36_49&products_id=30013 The ones below will perform even better at the cost of four decibels. http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36_49&products_id=27970 boredgunner
Wow that CPU runs cool. Are you using the stock fans on the H60?
boredgunner
Slipstreams have a lot of CFM but not much static pressure so they can't move much air through the rad. The stock H60 fan has more pressure so it might actually be better the way you have it now, nevermind what I said before.
I got your PM. The reason I did not respond again is boredgunner nailed it and I felt nuff said so consider this a +1. You would do well to heed the advice. How you ended up with these http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/026/sy1225sl_detail.html I do not understand. The links he provided gave clear insight on the reason for his selections you should make careful note of. That is to say if you want the best performance from the H60. Overall I'm very impressed with it's performance especially considering the cost vs performance factor and I will be curious to see how well it handles 5.0 whatever the setting it takes to get there. For me I think I will opt for the larger Rad of the H70 and seek to tweak it's over all performance using, again, the very good advice from boredgunner. GL now lets see those 5.0 results

I'll be back later with results..! :D.. will overclock today! :D.. take further notice that i may jump back to 4.8 if it gets too hot! :).. but i will give u screeens! :D

Agreed 80+ is high certainly higher than most would want to run at 24/7 so that's a wise decision but that's at 100% load with LinX which will be the worst case scenario in terms of heat. Your focus needs to be refining the current setup. I've read just reversing the air flow to intake which takes advantage of the cooler air out side the case and of course top quality fans makes the biggest difference in overall performance. Two modification worth your consideration if your case it up to it.

Tcase for the 2500 k is 72.6 but that is to say the max surface temp of the IHS of the proc itself. You would need a heat sensor attached there inorder to get an accurate reading. The CPU & each core temp you see reported by Core Temp etc are located under that and would naturally be higher than on the surface. No doubt heat kills and you are wise to be concerned but you should be safe for the limited time of a LinX run at under 85c TjMax is around 100C I believe. It will probably start to throttle at 90C, and completely shut itself off at 100C (or 98C) this is the protect mechanism built in the the proc which most don't like to temp fate that it will actually work. Further more if you are concerned I believe the LinX program can be set to shut down at the desired temp you indicate by default I think it's set to 100c or maybe it 90c not sure which but you can poke around the interface to be sure and set it up.

Those temps are getting high for only 1.4 vcore. Are you looking to run it 24/7 that way?

it is only when running linx i get so high.. when just running games and doing normal stuff i am around 55 degrees.. dunno if it seems high, older cpu's could handle 1.4 and not getting so hot, but they didn't overclock as well!.. we are talking about 50% overclock here!.. and ofcause it will generate heat at 50% overclock!.. i don't know if i want to run it that way 24/7 yet... but might if the gaming temps is still the same.. or about the same.. but this is mostly for knowing how high i can go i guess? :P.. someone know the capabilities of this cpu? XD.. i am at 5 ghz and only bumbed the power up once or twice xD.. proberbly my H60 giving up before the 2500k! ;)

Yep I see that now, all seems to be in great shape. That is a good chip you have there under 1.4vCore at 5.0 is fantastic, temp below 79c load even better and running 67GFlops also very good. If Can you can run a Linx problem size of 25000 or there about 20 passes with those temps I'd call it a superb 24/7 clock. I'd also be wondering how much more that proc has in her. Nice work and thanks for sharing. It would be nice to know all your settings if you feel up to it.

Oh I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, more implying I think you're reaching the limits of your cooling setup. If during your runs the temps hang around those numbers, I would back it down a bit. If it just spikes, probably nothing to worry about if you don't plan to go much higher. I brought my i7-2600K up to 5.3ghz and my i5-2500K up to 5.4ghz before I stopped. Ran both with my Silver Arrow which did a great job, but was getting close to if not meeting it thermal dissipation threshold. Now the 2500 sits under a Hyper 212 at 4.5ghz with temps in the mid 50's while folding. Creeps closer to 60 when the room temps climb on warmer days. The 2600 has the SA at 4.9ghz and temps are in low 60's. LinX, IBT, and Prime95 will always test the limits and really work the cooling capacity. I use them for stability and then check to see what things look like after chugging on wu's to get my real readings.

yea, i guess i am coming closer to the maximum of my cooling device also!.. but i could improve by putting other fans on it! :P.. and nice with the 2500k going to 5.4! :D.. btw, my cooling handles 4.5ghz just as fine as the hyper u are using, but at 5 ghz i guess i am having some trubles, but i am in a hot room atm, cuz the weather outside is nice today actually.. if i open window i get better temps cuz my comp is just under the window! :D.. I would be very careful with it. And nice chip indeed! it is 1.8 standard so i don't think it is high :P.. could try reduce , but i i put it up one notch since i had to put up pll voltage to overclock my old rig! :).. but i think this is sad http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/942368-i5-2500k-5ghz-air-pipe-dream.html ... he uses 1.49v vcore to hit 5ghz! :P.. so i don't know, maybe i am lucky with my chip ? :P.. and if i search google "5 Ghz i5 2500K using H60" it finds the old name of this thread "*updated* i5 2500k running 4.8 ghz H60 with temps"

well after redoing my Thermal Paste, adding a pull fan, and a side fan; I've got my temps to 57*C at a clock of 4.5Ghz under constant load (Folding@home). System Temp 35*C, GPU temp 53*C (clock 799/1598/1900). That's with the pull fan at lowest possible RPM, at max RPM it goes "down" to 54*C.

I am pretty happy with it but currently my room is only 68*F so when the heat comes back (as it is summer) that will go up a fair amount so I'm not really sure how much I improved it. I will OC to 5ghz but EVGA crap BIOS only lets us get to 4.5-4.8ghz, I'm on the low range and only able to get 4.5
