Hey im really glad to hear it wasnt a defective part. If you start looking for a new ups for your system make sure it uses a normal plug. When I was searching for myself most of the better brand name ones required a 20A wall socket which is a different plug. Ill look for a picture and post it. Were you ever able to run a stress test with out a crash?

Agreed. However, if you are in the USA, you could also have an electrician run a dedicated 220VAC line to that plug. If you use a standard 110VAC, you will be putting a lot of strain on that circuit and will probably run into issues with the breaker tripping.

Yea that is true. Ive been thinking of doing that bc soon Im going to build another computer as a dedicated folder and I havent checked to see what else is on the same line. I found a picture and loaded it here. Unless you have one of these plugs or plan on getting an electrician dont get a ups that has one of these

yes but i did have one crash when my system was still overclocked at 4 ghz, i want to test that again later, since 4 ghz isnt really a far jump from what the factory setting is, also im still having a raid controller problem.

windows tried to fix it but didnt find the drivers, ive downloaded them and put them on a usb thumb drive but it doesnt boot em, how do i load them on the usb/thumb drive, that is in a way that will allow it to detect it when booting.

Try again when its not overclocked. the crash might be an unstable oc. As far as the drivers can you load them while in windows? I have never used a raid card so I dont know about them. Unless you make the drive bootable I dont see how it would get it from boot

It it harder to overclock with that much memory. You will need to tweak the voltages and timings to get it to run properly. Auto probably won't work for 4GHz. Get the system running right at stock before worrying about running faster.

I suggest running all of the drives off of the 6 black Intel controller plugs for better performance and less hassle. You can run RAID and AHCI at the same time on them.

In the BIOS set the timings to 9-9-9-24 and the voltage to 1.65 for the RAM. Make sure you are not overclocking the memory yet. You will likely need to raise QPI voltage for 24GB. Up to 1.35 is safe.

You will need more VCore for 4GHz. Chips vary a lot so it takes trial and error to find the best settings for your rig.

Do they even make a 15 amp UPS that can handle 3 480's and an i7? My 780w APC shutdown in less than a minute after the power went out while I was folding on two 480's. It let me know that it was time to upgrade.

Yea at that range your almost getting to server ups's. I think the largest consumer one they make from the 120 wall socket is 1500W and a lot of the time it requires that socket to be on a 20 amp plug. See my pic at the top of this page

In order for us to rule out your OC as a cause of the crashes, please bring everything back to stock clocks. Some CPUs are really touchy when they are OC'd and can't tolerate much.

In order for Windows to see the thumb drive, you have to make it bootable. Follow the steps in this link to make the drive bootable. Just skip the part where you copy an OS over. Instead, copy your drivers.

I am not sure if this will work to update your drivers as I have never messed with a RAID card.  If it doesn't, you can always try booting into safe mode.

adam my system is running with the exception of raid now, suposedly the sata spots i put my raid into should work, also my bios wont give me the option for AHCI RAID combo unless raid works with AHCI?

and thanks for your help once again.

+1

I'll post too if I find something. In the meantime, whats the make and model of your RAID card?
