Having the (4 Error Red Led) on my GPU: All I did was switched over from one case to the new case.

- I powered up the system and the screen is Black,
- I noticed the Mobo has a White Error LED (VGA) "GPU not being detected"
- I'm trying to figure out what is causing the issue?
- Then I noticed (4 Red LED) on the EVGA 3080 FTW3, I never saw that before?
- Again, trying to figure out what is causing the issue?
- I tripled checked the connection making sure everything is correct, yet "GPU not being detected"
* I added the vertical PCI-E connection extension and tried it on both PCI-E Slots with the same results with the Mobo White Error LED (VGA) "GPU not being detected"
* I swapped PSU and it's the same issue?!
* I swapped GPUs from the 3080 to a 980Ti - Again, the Mobo White Error LED (VGA) "GPU not being detected"The same issue?!

* The Mobo comes with a built-in HDMI connection, so I went that route, and I now have a visual.
* The Mobo has no Error LED now, and I can go into BIOS and straight into Windows with no issues.
* I go into the Mobo BIO, updated it to the latest BIOS Version.
((( I'm on Windows surfing the web, doing everything "normal" with no issues through the Mobo HDMI Connection )))
* So I go and reconnected the 3080, powered up the system, the same (4 Red LED) on the EVGA 3080 FTW3 and the Mobo White Error LED (VGA) "GPU not being detected" ????

- For 3 Days now, I've been trying to figure out the problem with no luck in sight! and I could be wrong, but I think at this point it could be the Mobo?
- So before I start to RMA either the GPU or the Mobo, I will go buy a New Mobo and go from there...

Here's an image showing my system working with no LED Errors, as I completely disconnected the EVGA 3080 FTW3. I'm able to get on Windows and get on the forum through the (Mobo's HDMI) connection, again everything seems to be working "normal"

Sounds like an RMA in your real near future to me, have you installed a different gpu and tried that. Made sure all pcie connections are secure on your gpu as well.

I would agree it is likely to be the GPU, only way to be sure is to try a spare GPU in the system and see if it works or not.  At this point through if your MB HDMI is functional and you have tried the card in another PCI slot.. its RMA time.

These cards are super delicate and I suspect that we have 5 key reasons (based on my reading) for failures:

    1.  Faulty card, when its the cards time it goes.  (Most of the issues I bet).  Likely a flaw in the design.
    2.  Bad PCI Cables
    3.  Bad Power to the PC
    4.  Some Games and Software Push the GPU and the limits built in to the card are insufficient to stop damage (Firmware and Precision Software).
    5.  Bad OC, people push to far.

I think cooling is the other issue but its likely not a top 5.

While I love my 3090 FTW3 Ultra for my second rig, which will be mostly a spare computer, I am going 6900 XT, while EVGA's warranty is the best in the business I just can't afford to have no PC working when I need to remote work every day.  A Warranty replace would be weeks of waiting.

I still think we hear more about EVGA cards having issues because they have been able to hit the market more.

While my GPU is still functional I did suffer a BSOD this week and it appears to have been caused by Gforce Experience, which is now being forced to only load if I want it.  So far I have had no issues and I am going on Month two.

    My System Equipment specs:

MB:  ASUS Formula X570 CH Viii
    CPU:  AMD Ryzen 9 5950x
    Memory:  64 GB 3600 MHZ G.Skill Trident
PSU:  Phantek 1200 Watt Revolt-X (Seasonic based)
    Cables:  Custom Cablemod PCI

I am using multiple monitors:  1440, 1080, and a TV (LED).  Adding another 1440 soon.

If there was no warranty with this card I would be seriously concerned.

    * I swapped GPUs from the 3080 to a 980Ti - I actually see the 980Ti Logo LED on as if powered up but fans are like twitching as if fans trying to spin? Again, the Mobo White Error LED (VGA) "GPU not being detected"The same issue?!

I can't directly say for 100% sure it's the GPU yet.

Yes I did, I said and rma is in the near future because to me it's gonna be an RMA for either the mobo or gpu more than likely.

-The main reason I replied back.

-It could very well be an RMA, but I have to make sure 100% before doing so and by getting a few advice from people with similar issues, they can probably give me a step I overlooked that is not on my post.

Yes, obviously checked both PCI-E slots. 2 separate GPU's and the same results - I know the 980Ti works because my son was using it 2 days ago before I gave him my (1080Ti Hybrid FTW3)

I really don't mean to sound rude at all, but it's like I'm repeating myself over what I originally mentioned on my OP, I need someone with more advanced experience in the matter. Thank you for trying to help.

You pretty much have your answer, it's still doing it having tried different gpu's, get a different motherboard and slap it in there, I once had an asus tuff board that did the same thing and I was pretty confident it was the gpu the whole time, ended up being the pcie slots on the board.

I would try forcing pcie v3 in your bios ( if the option is available, you didn’t say what motherboard you have) and if possible test both video cards in another PC.
I guess motherboard issues too but the cards behaviour on another motherboard will let you know.

    Exilelrrp,

My educated guess, is that your Strix Z490-G is not providing power on the PCIe slots.  Could be a forgotten (extra) stud mount on your case shorting your mobo, or the mobo did not survive the case transfer.

Anyone on a mobile device or anyone with "essentials only" selected on a desktop computer cannot see your signature.  If you want help with a specific issue, it is always good to post your system specs regardless of whether it is in your signature.  It's not like copying and pasting your signature into your post is very difficult for you to do; rather than you arguing with and alienating whoever might come here with the best intentions of helping you.

Sounds like you should replace your motherboard.  If you are sure that the video cards are getting power from the power supply (measure it with a multimeter! [if you haven't already]), the motherboard must be defective.

Then, after you get ANY video card to work, then you can troubleshoot whether THIS video card is also defective.

Another idea comes to mind, remove the MB (if your AIO allows it) from the case and see if you still have the 4 red lights on your GPU.

Trying the GPU in a different computer would help do determine if the GPU is shot or not.

Seriously, if I was questioning multiple components I would be testing the GPU somewhere else.. not in my case/motherboard.

I wish you luck, I understand this is frustrating, and yes I have been there countless times.. While I am certainly no expert I dislike being called out concerning my experience.

    Exilelrrp,

My educated guess, is that your Strix Z490-G is not providing power on the PCIe slots.  Could be a forgotten (extra) stud mount on your case shorting your mobo, or the mobo did not survive the case transfer.

Yeah, I'm starting to believe it could be the Mobo, I took a break from trying to figure out the problem, so I order the same Mobo. I'm just waiting for it to arrive and go from there, I really do hope it's the Mobo and not the GPU, because you can't go buy a GPU anywhere and unfortunately I'm afraid of the RMA process overall due to this COVID-19... Let's see.

If you can get a hold of this, this may help
PCI E 16X 8X 4X PCI Express Slot Tester Card For Motherbaor Detect The Southbridge Short Or Open PCI E With Light Tester|card card|card testercard slot - AliExpress
Although it may takes forever to get one from China. :(

Thank you, it's good to have tools like this.

Another idea comes to mind, remove the MB (if your AIO allows it) from the case and see if you still have the 4 red lights on your GPU.

I Will do it when my new Mobo comes in.

This is likely not your issue but just trying to give some ideas in case something was overlooked. I installed a 3070 in my second system. Prior to this I had removed a 1080ti and the system had switched to and been running onboard graphics. When I installed the 3070 I got nothing but black screen and the computer responded as if there was no GPU installed. I left the 3070 in, hooked my HDMI back up to onboard, which had worked prior to the 3070, and still nothing. I finally removed the 3070, hooked my hdmi back up to onboard, and went back into the bios.  I had to select "initialize PEG" in the bios, exit bios, shut down computer and the install the 3070.

Again that fixed my problem. Likely not yours but something to check. I feel your frustration because just the 20 minutes it took for me to have to figure this out had me stressed.

I got my ((NEW Mobo)) and it's the same drama with the White Error LED (VGA) "GPU not being detected" on Board?!...
I tried what you said which I haven't done before and that didn't do anything for me, I even installed a 980Ti FTW and it's the same results?!... I just received this Brand New (ROG Strix Z490-G) today... I'm really Fn' confused now, I purchased a new Mobo for nothing, what can be causing this issue??? Could it really be something to do with BIOS settings?

Try going into mobo bios and changing pcie from 3.0 to 4.0 to auto with different combinations of the pcie slots and pcie riser card (you said you have). Try with the riser card as last resort. This messes up lots of systems.

After going back and forth retracing my steps, at the end of day 2:00 AM I started thinking to myself - Why does it seem like the Mobo is not getting enough power to the PCI-E? I started swapping PSU cables around with no luck, then I went ahead and pulled out my Corsair HX1200i, and Boom! Everything is back up and running  - I definitely know now, my new SF PSU isn't giving sufficient power or it's defective?! Either way, I will have to RMA it, glad it was that and not the EVGA Ultra 3080 FTW3

I know the waiting game too well, that's why I always send it FedEx next day. Put it in their hands quickly, no excuse! - No thanks to this Pandemic, I'm home all day every day, I'll give'em a few days before I start emailing and calling them...

Awesome sleuthing there! It lends more weight to focus troubleshooting the power supply if similar red light issues arise. Thanks for posting your solution.
