Hi guys. I just got the above card and have noticed a couple of things. Firstly, the temperature of the GPU when playing Control goes as high as 79 degrees using the OC bios with no overclocking, which seems high to me.

Secondly, as soon as I open a menu or pause the game, the fan will suddenly ramp up to what sounds like full speed, causing the GPU temp to plummet back down. I ran Afterburner just to see what the actual fan speed was, and it didn't register the sudden increase. I even tried setting the fan to a fixed RPM to see if that would stop the sudden spike, but it didn't. Again, the fan speed percentage didn't register an increase.

This sounds like it's in a similar ballpark to other issues people have been having, but I don't get a black screen when it happens. Everything seems to run fine until I enter a menu or pause, and then it sounds like my PC is going to take off. It's like the temperature monitoring is off somehow, and it doesn't kick in until the card isn't rendering anything in 3D.

I have an O11 Dynamic XL case which is very well ventilated, and an EVGA Supernova G5 1000w PSU. 3900X, Windows 10, and the latest Nvidia driver. All settings are default, and I performed a clean driver install.

Are you data logging with HWINFO64 ?  That program will keep current/min/max/avg values for all sensors as long as the window is open.

I have noticed on my card, as well as GamerNexus reviews, at some point in the rampup on temp readings, there is a tiny blip on sensors in the 6500C range.  While gaming, i notice some fan RPMs also report in at 2,000,000+ RPM occasionally.

My PWR and MEM temps are all usually ~70C but max values in HWINFO show as 135+ and then the occasional 6500C spike, so all I have to go on is a long data collection cycle and the averages where that split second of 6500C doesn't have much say on the end result.

I tried changing to the non-OC bios by flicking the switch back across, and the behaviour of the fans has become even stranger. When temperatures approach 80 degrees they start to sort of rev up to a higher RPM but just for short little staccato intervals, like revving the engine of a motorbike.

Yeah, I was getting fan RPM spikes during gameplay with my OC switch in the OC position.

Next, try setting the NV control panel global setting for performance mode. Set that to "prefer maximum performance".

When I set that, the fan spikes went away, but idle temps and wattage are a downside.

I just increased the power limit to 107 in Afterburner and ran Port Royal again. This time you can see where the revving occurred, but it appeared on the hardware monitor as the sensors no longer registering the fans at all - the fan % and tachometers all read as 0 for the exact duration that the GPU was at 80 degrees. As soon as the test finished the fans spiked back up again (3000 rpm). This is really weird.

I have exactly the same issue with my new RTX 3090 Ultra Hybrid, i got yesterday in the course of an RMA. My previous Card works fine, but has died during a normal restart...

My SN starts with 2119 and yours?

    Hi there,

I actually managed to fix this issue. Upon downloading the latest version of EVGA Precision X1 from this site, it detected on first starting up that my firmware wasn't up to date. It then installed an updated firmware driver (during which the RGB all switched off on my card and four red LEDs like demons eyes came on, the fans ramping up to 100% and terrifying me). Once this new firmware was installed, the fan revving glitch no longer occurred. It did, however, seem to slightly (very slightly) affect the performance of the card. 3D Mark scores dropped by a couple of hundred points in Port Royal - nothing I'd ever notice in gameplay.

So that was the fix for me. I say all of this in the past tense as I've switched to a different 3090 now, as while I loved the look and the performance of the FTW3 Ultra, I found it to be ever-so-slightly on the loud side. I've now got an MSI Suprim X, which is faster, cooler under load, and slightly quieter, albeit not quite as nice to look at in the case. It's also hotter at idle temps. Swings and roundabouts.

    Hi,

    thank you for the tip.

I've already tried that. I used the latest version of the Precision-X1.

Unfortunately, no firmware is found for my RTX 3090 Ultra Hybrid at startup.

So many bugs on this 3090's

If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walkup behind them, and stab them in the heart.
