Aside from the small bump in boost clock, texture fill rate, and RGB, how much of a difference is there in frames between the two?

From what I understand the only real difference between the Ultra XC3 and the FTW3 is that the XC3 is power limited because of the 2 8 pin connectors. The FTW3 has 3 power connectors and you can throw more power at it.

don't even worry about it.
i've never seen so many people want a GPU to be pulling 400+ watts. you only get miniscule REAL performance gains from increasing the power draw so much.
if you're not trying to get on the leaderboard for a benchmark, it doesnt matter. everyone crying about power limits, but i dont see you all on the leaderboards...

Yea I researched the differences. Pretty much bigger heat sink, better diodes, and more power consumption for those that want to OC, in addition to the RGB.
Got my notification for an XC3 ultra which I forgot I had auto-notify on. I actually had my mind set on the FTW3 ultra but after researching and comparing, I'm happy with the XC3 instead. FTW3 seems more for those that are enthusiasts on bench marking.

I have had both 3080 cards results are as follows ( Note also had a 3090 FTW3 for a week It was faster but I could not justify the price over the 3080)
XC3 Ultra maxed out at 2010mhz daily. Limit was power
the FTW3 Ultra with the 450w bios. I have had at 2100 on air but during games due to the air cooler not being able to keep up will wee the clock go down to 2025 most of the time.
So really two category's. One you just want to game get the XC3 Ultra. and two you want to spend every $ you can to get vary little in return and plan on water-cooling then get the FTW3.
I have ended up undervolting the ftw3 its set at .987v at 2040mhz runs at 60C full load . I did not test to much undervolting on the XC3.
The FTW3 is quieter due to the larger heatsink vs the XC3.
The XC3 is more compact and only needs 2x8pins vs the 3 on the FTW3.
overall I don't see any real fps difference. I do expect if I get a waterblock too see something around 2100mhz to 2130mhz. I don't think it will go much more then that.

There is a considerable difference in thermals as well. I am talking like 10-15'C between the XC3 and FTW3, with the XC3s being hotter. You'd think it would be the other way around with the extra wattage... but ICX simply does not do the job adequately on the reference board.
Power is an obvious limitation to performance potential, but don't overlook just how much extra throttling the XC3 will do due to thermals.

Yea the the throttle was a small concern. I'll see how well it does in my system. Past GPU's 1080ti, 2080ti both FTW3's have had great temps. This will be my first XC3ultra. Get what I can get at the moment =\

What if one were watercooling both cards? In that scenario would getting the FTW3 gain more performance vs the XC3?

The FTW3 can draw more power, making OC on it better if you can cool it.

Just keep in mind its a very power hungry card when OC'd. You will likely need water cooling to max it out.
