yup same here these cards runs sooo hot when you leave it idle without any fans running it can get a bit crazy. keep your card running up to 40% rpm but my gpu the middle fan rans 100%rpm no matter what adjust or not. annoyingly loud though but keeps my gpu at low temp

Stock fan curve shuts off at 50 and runs as slow as possible until it hits 80, the oc switch has a more aggressive curve and the fans never stop spinning, I made a curve the spins 30% when over 39 c and 82% at 80c and it never hit 80 anymore. And it will idle about 37c.

My Rig is close to yours and I set this fan curve in MSI AB on heavy load I never go over 65 stock bios only OC when I am bored. How is your fan directions? Like what fans are intake and what fans are exhaust?

If you're willing it give it a shot, I heavily recommend Undervolting. Takes like 5 minutes to do, then just game as normal for a while and adjust if you get crashes. I also have a fan curve where the fan speed matches the temp (like 62 degrees = 62%) and it never goes above 65ish with my .9v undervolt. Also running about 1920 total core and mem is +499. Could do 1980 in benchmarks but cyberpunk didn't agree with it, so out the window it goes. Here's a vid I recommend for a basic undervolt. Its kinda fun to tune in my opinion :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqpfYTi43TE Just a side note, if you do decide to user Afterburner, make sure to close Precision and make sure it doesn't run on Startup. It was causing some issues with my fans. With Afterburner you will also want to select the option so that your fans speeds are synced, else a lot of people get one fan that won't respond or go the speed its supposed to. I tend to also have GPU-Z running just to keep an eye on everything.

If you're using msi afterburner the fans won't work properly if you try to set a custom curve. It seems to be worse with the new drivers - 68% in afterburner is only 1025 rpm for me. If you're not on afterburner that seems a bit hot - mine runs at 72-74 at stock settings/fan curve.

I never went past 68c with fans set at 40-45% (because stock curve was going mad and pushing to 100% the fans but thats a different story) with 2 exhaust and 2 intake purewings 2 on a be quiet dx 500 case. You absolutely need an airflow case for this GPU but otherwise its temperatures were very satisfying.

I am going to say it is running to hot. Here is why I will say that. I have an 3080 FTW Ultra in top slot and a 2080TI in the bottom slot with 1 slot open between them. They are both Folding @ Home and my 3080's highest temp has been 76C and that with a TI under it Folding and its at 70C. So for a single card to get that high I would think something is up.

Definitely something up with Afterburner. Latest beta version and the fan control is not accurate. Plus the third fan still isn't working. I have to use Precision X1 to control the fans. A pain in the ass cause I use Afterburner to undervolt and Precision to control fans, and when I apply the latter it replaces everything

For me, Afterburner works fine if I open it up alone, it's when I open P1X and then go back to AB, when the fan control goes wonky.

If you want a cool card, why are you using air? The hybrid cards run far cooler, and honestly are all I will ever buy. My 1080Ti Hybrid barely hits 50C when folding.

It’s not about running cool. It’s question on why these cards run so hot stock. My 2080 runs 70c my 1080ti runs 72c in the same case. Just asking why some people’s cards run 72c and some 2080s run 80-82c. It’s not a case flow issue. It not thermal paste issue. I have changed that also. And why would I spend $150 on liquid to cool my card to get 2 more FPS?

Because of the high wattage and voltage output stock. Why so many are undervolting these cards to get much better temps/scores than stock. A lot of wasted power for these cards.

"It’s not about running cool. It’s question on why these cards run so hot stock." Ok... I don't get the Hybrid for 2 FPS boost I get hybrid because it runs a lot quieter and cooler.. It also has the benefit of exhausting the air out of your case all while maintaining a higher clock... You never want to exhaust into your case witch is what the air coolers do. I just don't like my PC to sound like a vacuum.
