I think techpowerup goofed with the fan %... must be using Afterburner. They said 69% fan was 1715RPM, but if its the same as my XC3 then that is closer to 50%.

Welp thats a weak sample or they did not adjust the fan curve at all. I can maintain 2160 thru out a run for the most part. Need a block bad.

Damn. So it really does run hot. Why is that? Why is ASUS's design so much better that it keeps it 14c cooler?

Can't compare like that. EVGA FTW3 is significantly higher TGP than most others + lower noise level, to do proper compare to other models you would need to lower down the power target and increase fanspeeds. A closer comparison is the OC BIOS mode, but still higher TGP.

    Exactly.

The only comparable card is the Strix 3080 and they are running the same temps with the FTW3 Ultra running cooler in OC mode.

She thicc, she do the tricks, she make the games look sicks... Also, you can use it as a space heater if you lack such a thing in the winter, just put the fans on 80%, open your case, & run Superposition on a loop, easy space heater (that's not a knock on it's temps, it does put out some heat though, I'm coming from Hybrid cards so I haven't had a card that puts out beaucoup heat in generations).

Edit: Just looked at the review & saw the drivers they're using, wondering why they're using older drivers on other NVidia cards... I had the 455-series installed on the 2070 Super Hybrid I had in my system for a bit & they worked fine.

Until you realize you can also shunt a 3090 FE  and/or just run 114% OR you have a 3090 strix or 3090 ftw3.  Granted it's still poor value, but the gains are there.

I have the strix. It's not. 450 watt vs 450 watt the EVGA does a slightly better job at 100% fan at least.

Compared to other 3080s, I'm surprised EVGA neglected to put any thermal pads on the backplate where the VRMs and memory chips are. I know the reason the 3090s have them is because of the chips on the back of the card. Seems like an odd design choice considering the last few iterations of cards have had them on the back.

I had similar thoughts. I would be interested to see results for adding some pads to the rear side. Maybe GN will take up the task in their review.

What a beautiful review ! This website is really thorough, but they could have done more on the overclocking part, just testing the OC performance with Heaven!? meh. I mean, so much on the frametime analysis and then like 1 sentence on OC.

And this sucker who always complains about temps finally got dealt with, god he is annoying.

It's good to at least be able to read the reviews to decide on the model that best fits budget and performance you want. The first reviews I read about the card was to find out how the FE new cooler did since it seemed so different but it seems to work. Now I read them to see how the cards do vs. each other.

This review is a BIG improvement over.. what was it? PCGAMER? Who tested it on stock bios and that's it lol.
    Well done EVGA :)

Looking good and very detailed testing! I'm glad they tested it on the 450w bios too..Hope they do the 3080 Strix soon so we see how it compares.

I'm still holding out for gamers nexus to do theirs.
Although Steve did say he won't be testing frames against the other models.
