So I (finally) managed to snag a 30 series in the form of a 3070ti FTW3 @ Microcenter.   Question is with a recommended PSU of 750w, will my seasonic gold GM-650w do?  Every PSU calculator I run my machine through says it is, but every spec list recommends 750w?

Should people be following the PSU recommendations explicitly?  Is there wiggle room (as the PSU calc's suggest?)

If your doctor recommends something I suggest you just listen and don't ask questions.

    Thanks doc.

Good luck it "should" be perfectly fine until it's not.  Some people just like their cheap low octane fuel I get it.

I mean a 650 Watt power supply should be able to run a 3070 Ti. The new 30 series graphics cards have significantly more overclocking potential. So if you overclock your card, it will require more juice. I think if you don't overclock, you should be able to run a 3070 Ti with a 650 watt power supply. Otherwise, you could always just go to MSI afterburner and lower the power limit so that it does not take up a lot of power.

Im running a 650w evga on a 3070 ti Asus Tuf. Its also overclocked like a muffin top. (5800x cpu) Most of the better psu brands will not have an issue however some model 650w psu's have weaker amps on the 12v rails and will instanly die during stress testing. We ve seen this happen lots of times in our local pc repair shop.

Is this good enough? It's a single-rail 12v with 54 amps. Been serving me well for years and hoping to keep it.  Plan is to get the 3070ti xc3 since I'm okay'ish in the queue position. It's only 2x 8pin, instead of the ftw3's 3x 8pin:

    +3.3V@30A, +5V@30A, +12V@54A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3.0A
