I have an HDMI based monitor and a displayport VR headset and need to know if I need to do disconnection gymnastics to see my BIOS on boot like I did with the 2000 series GPUs.

As a general rule (and not always the case) the older the standard, the higher the priority. I'd assume HDMI would get priority on boot. I do not have a DisplayPort monitor to check with however.

So what i did to fix issue like this is to use a short extension cable to quick disconnect the vr headset.

All of that is great but doesn't answer the question. Hopefully someone can list the port priority, I know it exists for the 10 series and 20 series. Thanks!

Hdmi is usually first.. so hdmi screen would be used for bios.

With my 3090, the DP port that is furthest to the right shows the BIOS at start up. So let's do some ASCII art. If we're looking at the back of my GPU I have the following: HDMI--- DP1 --- DP2 --- DP3 x x x
When I boot my PC I get the BIOS screen on DP3 even though I also have DP1 and HDMI pulled in.

Bummer. Just for clarification, you get DP1 as the display output during boot even with nothing plugged into DP1? (I'm looking at using a DP to HDMI adapter to route audio to my AVR, and use the HDMI out to a G-sync TV in the near future)

Looks like you caught me mid edit, I am a bit slow this morning, and reversed the connections. I've only ever booted with the DP plugged in. I'll disconnect some ports, reboot, and report back with what I find.

If you've not been able to test, I'm going to find out for myself this Saturday (hopefully). I broke down and have a LG CX coming in, and I'll be running audio to my AVR via a DP to HDMI adapter and a 4K 120Hz signal over HDMI straight to the TV. Hopefully that promised firmware update for the CX that fixes G-sync will be available.

There is still a bias that HDMI = TV or secondary use and DP = monitor and primary display device. This is still primarily true. It may eventually change as the artificial distinction between a TV and 'PC Monitor' disappears.

Thanks Jacob! Looks like I'll have to disconnect the AVR if I want to get into the BIOS.

Something on the next agenda should be a method to set the init priority. It would be trivial. For a start it could a switch on the board, then firmware, then via OS.

Thanks. I always assumed the port closest to the motherboard was 1st 'priority'.

Well this is unfortunate. I was hoping I could actually use my monitor (HDMI) to get in to my bios without having to disconnect my VR headset. Guess that's not happening. Why at least isn't the HDMI port #2 so that we could use another displayport to give HDMI priority? Is this configured at the card bios level? Can we suggest a change?

@EVGA_JacobF, sorry to resurrect this, can a priority change be requested for the EVGA BIOS? I am swapping 3000 series cards from a different make which remembers the HDMI as the BIOS display despite having a VR headset in DP. This other manufacturer has 2xHDMI,4DP where the 4k TV is on HDMI (#2) and VR Headset on DisplayPort (#4). After switching to EVGA the 4KTV is on #4 while VR headset is on #3. I understand following Nvidia reference design but if there is some way in firmware to flip the priority of HDMI with DP it would put EVGA ahead if not on par with other AIBs.
