Re: 1080 Ti Hybrid kit Announced! 'New and Improved' with a 33% price increase.

Jszupiany The irony in the title just kills me. "'New and Improved' with a 33% price increase" Everyone always expect everything to stay the same price for 100 years.
It was originally at $179.99. However, if you look at the product page, the functionally identical product is $ 119.99. So it isn't that one expects everything to stay the same price, some just expect the same product, to cost more or less the same. This product, 5188, is 119.99 ![](https://www.evga.com/products/images/gallery/400-HY-5188-B1_LG_1.jpg) And this product, 5388 is $179.99 $159.99. ![](https://www.evga.com/products/images/gallery/400-HY-5388-B1_LG_1.jpg) The "New and Improved" was a bit of mild sarcasm. But, I might as well take the opportunity to reiterate how poor the launch of the product has been. Especially given the promises made to TITAN P owners over many, many months. If it comes down to B&H not having any stock for their pre-orders (which is still on going) which they say are arriving in early May, EVGA is going to have a lot of explaining to do.

I broke down and pre-ordered from BH last night. I'm expecting lack of stock on May 2 since I pre-ordered late. BH oversells and/or EVGA cannot deliver PO quantities. They never say...

I pre-ordered within minutes of these showing up on B&H. I know they won't answer this, but EVGA knows whether or not B&H is going to get stock. What they may not know is a certain date. B&H still lists May 2nd as the expected in stock date. My own theory on this is EVGA does not want to cannibalize their custom models. Thus the 'limited' availability.

It's no secret that the cooling from these kits are private label Asetek designs. The custom bracket and shroud are probably sourced separately and we don't know who packages them. That said, numerous factors play into the "limited" availability statement that may also relate to the retail box Hybrid card SKU. Similar to the FTW and FTW DT, "testing" reference design, loading special boost Bios on qualified cards will affect Hybrid card availability, too. I would think the stand-alone kits will be around, but in "limited" re-supply since they will be needed for the card SKUs, too. I just hope the BH pre-sale mechanism has timely shipments and they don't oversell like airline seats. We just need to camp the EVGA page and F5 as a backup. Then, cancel the other. Really sad if you really want somthing "turn-key." I'm trying to keep a good re-sale value so I want the hybrid kit.

Jacob said a few weeks on the podcast. He also said there wasn't a firm enough timeline otherwise. Here hoping soon so I can do the step up already. I'm not gonna get an Founder's Edition blower card if I can help it.

IMO just get the 1080 model. I just put one on my card last night.
Not only is it cheaper than the TI variant but also if you don't put the hybrid shroud on you literally only have to take like 8 screws out of your card rather than disassemble the entire thing.

Don't forget, we can just cut (dremel) the shroud to make room for the extra power connector.

I'm really tempted to get the standard 1080 one as well. I mean how long will I have to wait before I even have a chance to get two 1080ti hybrid kits.

I checked this morning as I check every day and the kit on BH still said expected May 2nd. It no longer states that just says coming soon. Looks like I'll have to wait till Volta to get my Hybrid Kit. I just sold my 1080 kits and I was really considering keeping them to mod. I wish I had kept them. If EVGA continues to have issues with manufacturing I'm jumping ship. Good customer service is great but if you can't buy the product then it is pointless. I like the fact that MSI just out and out releases a hybrid card and has availability.

In EVGA's defense, they have a higher demand for their products, hence why you see MSI hybrids in stock in the market place. Sure you won't get the same EVGA perks with them but that is up to the end user to decide what they want to go with.

You noticed.....there's no longer a date, May 2nd was the in stock date. Now it just says *soon*. Soon, could be next year. Jacob could easily answer if B&H is even going to get stock at all. What seems to be getting worse by the week, for all their products, is communication. Many would just like to know if they are wasting their time and should look for other options. This being strung along for weeks and many months for TITAN P owners, with ZERO communication, makes you wonder who is actually in charge.

But they don't want you to look for other options. With other options available they want to string you as long as they can to make a sale. If they told you a unacceptable date they would instantly lose the sale to a competitor. This way they have a chance of keeping it. They would also prefer to not comment on whether or not B&H will receive stock because if you purchase it direct from EVGA they make more profit on top of the marked up Kit to begin with (+$40). I'm sure they use the same manufacture for this stuff and they put off the kits manufacturing to spend machine time on making FTW3's after they got more pre-orders than they anticipated. Of course all we can do is guess, because there will be no transparency.

Funny... I just did a web survey last night for BH and commented on over-selling during pre-sale leading to lack of stock to fulfill orders. EVGA will not disclose details on VAR orders since they're probably confidential. They did an upgrade from ACX to ICX and trying to roll out a lot of new SKUs. Can they meet demand? Who knows since it happens to many during new product release. I had to pre-order from BH since it is the only option aside for EVGA stock notification and a race to the "submit order" button. We make ourselves a captive customer. I hope EVGA recognizes the "loyalty" based on past purchases. Just the same ole stuff for every tech upgrade. I appreciate the FTW2 upgrade and EVGA step-ups. That says a lot and will keep me a loyal customer until they really screw me over.

Good analysis. That's true while I've heard that they get these chips last minute from Nvidia and only have a small window to design and get into production of said PCBs. On top of that, the demand is very high for their products and brands versus competitors since they have some of the best policies and promotions in the market place. I truly believe they are getting swamped folks and this sub-forum has turned into a complaining, preorder and shipping frenzy. Someone or I should should create one thread for all the complaints and inquiries for all the GPUs. No ones thinking outside the box on why they aren't saying much or misunderstand the terms "estimated date shipped". That's great and all, but THIS thread is about the stand alone Hybrid product. A product that has been promised and talked about for many months. This product, shouldn't be affected by the GPU releases any more than the EVGA power link is affected. What I suspect is that EVGA doesn't want to cannibalize their custom product stack. Given how well the Hybrids work, who would blame them? Why those of us still waiting for more than a 10 minute purchase window a month ago... then silence. So I don't see the relationship between a RELEASED but unavailable for purchase product and products that are not even released yet.

Could be Asetek cannot keep up with demand or lower cashflow priorities for the hybrid kits. Fund more cards to sell worldwide than a smaller subset extreme cooling group? Regardless, to create a Hybrid card SKU, they would need to cherry pick the reference cards and use the available kits for their turn-key SKU since TI-FE demand is lower than SC or FTW. In the end, it's out of our control. Either wait or find other options. Sadly, this is just temporary until a better single card that can do 1440P surround, 8k, or 4k surround is released.

MikeBGeyer I checked this morning as I check every day and the kit on BH still said expected May 2nd.
There are some of us who are still waiting on the Classifieds HCs and Kingpins and none of those folks aren't raising a stink because we know it takes time.

They don't cherry pick the gpu chips. You just can't test the chip until you mount it on the board. Only 1 kingpin card was binned for ASIC score. Pascal doesn't have that metric. They only test for OC stability at stock for any given bios. That's why you have SC, SC+, SSC and the like. The better it clocked the better branding you could put in the cooler. Thus the DT branding signified cards that's couldn't hit high OC stability at stock voltages.

Again, we are not talking about a Hybrid GPU model. We are talking about the Hybrid kit alone ![](https://www.evga.com/products/images/gallery/400-HY-5388-B1_LG_1.jpg) which has been in the works and promised for nearly a year. Talking about Hybrid GPU models only confuses the issue.

I summarized "cherry pick" cards, but a better explanation. They will test the raw cards and reflash bios for various SKUs. Let's see how long it takes...

Only reason I mentioned the Hybrid card is that it may be the reason for insufficient stock of kits. Maybe they can't get enough raw products to make both. In the end, it's a guessing game since EVGA doesn't reveal anything. Just remember.... soon.

Yes...soon...We'll see what happens tomorrow. I predict B&H won't have any stock and no idea when. If I predict worst case, then I won't be disappointed.

Last Friday Jacob said more were coming in the next few weeks. Maybe even before elite cards start to ship. I personally doubt it as they've been wrong about such timing before. Like this whole saga since Titan X Pascal announcement.

Heavy, I was pointing out the numerous things that could be going on and I understand you've been very frustrated with the whole Hybrid kit but as already stated, I think the high volume for these kits which are basically rebrands from Asetek are the reasons EVGA doesn't have that many. We truly don't know how many were sold the first few minutes. Maybe 500, 1000 units sold or more? Who knows but what we do know, all the different competitor's CPU and GPU AIO's are rebrands from Asetek so I'm sure everyone's waiting in line trying to get their orders in and they all have their own unique shrouds and colors and what have you. Maybe there were issues with Asetek and EVGA didn't want to throw their AIO patent partner under the bus because it could effect their relationship. It's obviously a complex situation and while I agree, they shouldn't promise something they can't produce but if they didn't promise anything, well that's the name of the game. Limited quantity and once that's been said, be ready for a hit or miss.

Other brands have stock available. EVGA short supply is nothing new, this has repeatedly been a problem for several years. When this issue happens so consistently, it really comes down to poor production planning. There have been no issues with the Hybrid cooler, it would be all over these forums if there were - to the contrary, reports here have been amazing. I don't know what's going on with EVGA lately - I get no response from emails to product managers regarding specs, and totally inadequate responses from tech support. I have seen others express the same frustrations. This under-supply is just one more issue. People were screaming for this cooler for over 8 months before it was finally released, to say they didn't expect the demand is fallacy.

That's too bad EVGA hasn't stocked any more of these. I should feel extremely lucky I snagged one of these on day one. This Hybrid cooler has been fantastic so far. I upgraded to a 165hz G-Sync monitor recently, and running 144fps-165fps at 1440p, I top out at 50C on the 1080 Ti. It's awesome.

Yeah I feel pretty lucky as well. I was camping the page at work, saw a "they're live" post, about 5 seconds later I hit F5, added to my cart... purchased the hybrid... and they were sold out about 4 minutes later. Idle temps about 20C, load temps in the upper 30's to lower 40's. Ambient temps matter.
