This might be yet another "my temps are high" thread, but oh well..
 
Let's get to the point. For about a year now I own a GTX 1070 FTW card. February 2017 I installed the new BIOS and the optional thermal pads from EVGA. Recently I started monitoring my temperatures closely.
 
During intensive games like Witcher 3, Metro Redux, DA:Inquisition with VSYNC ON I'm getting about 73-74C max, fans stay at around 50-55 % at that point as I'm having a custom fan curve

 
If I turn off VSYNC my FPS and GPU load increase and at that point I'm reaching temps as high as 78-79C.
I think these temperatures are too high for a FTW card as other people are only getting mid-high 60's during gaming. Any suggestions on what to do here?

I have experience too with V-Sync off and reaching higher temperatures in some games. One noteworthy was Grid 2 with ultra settings and V-Sync off the 1050 Ti was producing sum 200 FPS and the temperature of the card 78-82c. My conclusion was that the card going nuts overworking it self (well in my case 3 times my 60Hz monitor) so set V-Sync on and temperatures went back down. But now I am opening Precision anytime I run a game and using XOC's Frames Limiter set to 60 and the games V-Sync set off (XOC dose better job with screen tearing and keeping performance high) as well as using the Aggressive Fan Curve. 

Your temps are within the specs s0nix2 (but I prefer to run it cooler, below the 70ºC, but either way, your temps are okay).
But since you use Vsync, limiting the framerate to your monitor refresh rate will make GPU run cooler, since the card will not use all of it's power.

Do you have pics from your case, so we can check if the airflow on your case is ok?

Do you have any fans in the front of your case?
 
 If not, you need to add some - you're not getting much airflow THROUGH the case so the temps inside it are getting too high.
 
 Also, you could try resetting your fan curve, I'm generally all in at 80C and drop 20% per 10C from that point - but my rigs are mostly folding rigs that are on 24/7 at VERY high load.
