Hey Everyone,
I am looking to get a couple of 980ti's, saw the Classified and the Hybrid. Can get either for about the same price.
I have no space restrictions, so the Hybrid is no issue.

Which would you choose?? and why.

Appreciate your advice or experiences.

Cheers
Steve

If you're using it for Folding exclusively I would get the Hybrid for lower temps. I personally like the Classsified for the larger circuit board layout but I would watercool it. Just my personal thoughts on the matter.

    Thanks Zuhl.
Always good to learn something, I did not know the Classified circuit board layout was larger. I am off to look for more details on that.

Will be for Folding only, as that is all I am doing at the moment.

    Cheers robbysites also.

I think the Classified has more Power Phases also for smoother power delivery to the GPU and VRAM. Sometimes it is hard to find out how many Power Phases come with each model although I think if you go to EVGA's product page it is part of the specs listed.

EDIT: the difference in size is easy to see from the pics at NewEgg:

The Classified does indeed have more Power Phases:

Awesome Zuhl, You did the research for me, much appreciated.

Hmm, so for pure Folding power, the Classified seems to be the winner...

Classified would be my choice. It was really thoughtful of EVGA to list those specs in a comparison chart.

    agree.. great chart.
My mind is nearly made up for the Classified....

Anyone else have some input or comments.

    Much Appreciated

Hybrid for folding exclusively. The classified is over built for subzero benchmarking and won't provide any advantage over the hybrid for folding purposes.

I bought my classifieds for benchmarking and use them for folding.

Take note that the power draw on the classified is going to be higher, so power usage and heat output will be higher, it'll also run hotter (the card itself) than the hydro, possibly with a shorter lifespan for something like the heavy use of 24/7 folding.
The hybrid will need a good spot to put the radiator however.

the classified has an advantage of being able to (possibly) clock higher and a higher factory OC as well, so if you're one to take a small risk with failed WU while finding the perfect clock, it would result in more work and PPD.

Hmmm, good points.. pun... there, thanks
I do not overclock, I always break for get failed WU's.... so would be stock clocks for me.

So now mind not so nearly made up. Hybrid is just a point in front at the moment......consumption and temps......

Power usage, hmmm... I am folding with 8 gpu's currently and 1 cpu. Yes my power bill is high, BUT....
as the 900 series are more power efficient,, my 700 series will hopefully go to a good home. So I would use less power for more PPD.

2x GTX770's are up for grabs.. anyone interested in them??

One more afterthought I just had is that the Classified is going to hold its value better than the Hybrid if you ever upgrade or just plain get tired of it and decide to sell it off. I'd be more interested in buying a used Classified than a Hybrid.

What is the asking price for one of those 770 boards? What kind of ppd can I expect? I need to dump the 680 in my Windows 10 PC as it is useless for Folding.

Zuhl3156 got first, but I am always interested in new toys, lol. I have a friend that could use some new toys and they would be an upgrade to him from the free sli 8800gt's he got from his dad.

I will add in my 2 cents as well. Definitely the hybrid for folding only. The Classified in stock form won't even get you too much higher of an OC with the stock air cooler over a normal 980Ti. The Classified really makes use of its extra power phases under low temp OC'ing for benching. And at those speeds you probably wouldn't be folding stable anyway. Although it would be cool to see a classy running 1700MHz or 1800MHz and folding. I'd love to see those numbers.

I am leaning to the Hybrid now. Will be Folding 24/7....

Don't you apologize. I have come up with an idea for a possible build, although it will take me years to complete lol.

I do think the hybrid will work best for you.

OK, so the Titan X is the top of the tree,

So I am running a 980ti sc which gets about 550k to 600k PPD approx.
What does a Titan X put out a day??

Is the cost justified over the 980ti?? (Hybrid or not)

Water Block or Hybrid is the best way to go for Folding even if only the 980 Hybrid.
Hybrid Mostly for Default Clock and Cooling, I like my Hybrid Cards over my Water Block Cards or Hydro Copper Cards they call them.

Well, no Hybrid's in stock, so got a 980ti sc.
    Installed and now folding..

Next week, will be a Hybrid, or maybe even 2 of them....

Why not wait for PASCAL?  It is only a couple of months away!!  I am waiting to see how each does on PPD.  Depending on the cost I may get a Titan version.  It looks like it could Fold like crazy from leaked rumors.

Why wait when I could fold now????

Pascal may not even be able to fold when it arrives. Fingerscrossed it does, and folds well also.
Not sure how much better the Titan X over the 980ti ?? as I have not seen the PPD a Titan X is capable of.

It could take MONTHS for the PASCAL GPU to run well over on Stanford.
