BIOS 1.05 Updates - Fix "load previous values" function
- Fix memory TWR value setting
- Improve PCI-E compatibility
- Fix system cannot boot when setting manual CPU core
Windows Installation- Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:
152-HW-E878-KR - EVGA Z87 Classified
- First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
- Close all open programs.
- Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and run the appropriate batch file with full administrator rights.
- For Windows XP, Vista or 7 32Bit: FPTWIN32.BAT
- For Windows XP, Vista or 7 64Bit: FPTWIN64.BAT
- Press Y in CAPITAL LETTERS to start the flash process
- DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
- After the flashing is finished, the system will automatically shut down. Then power on again and go into BIOS to setup.
- NOTE: If flash box immediately closes after flash attempt, the flash may need to be ran from a CMD prompt with administrator privileges or DOS version.
USB Flash/DOS Drive Installation - Create a bootable disk.
- Extract the above .zip file to your bootable disk.
- From a DOS prompt, run fptdos.bat
- Press Y in CAPITAL LETTERS to start the flash process
- DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
- After the flashing is finished, shut the system down completely. Then power on again.
After flashing verify that the correct flash was applied by checking the version number on the lower right corner of the BIOS screen.

I tried this update in Windows 8.1 64 Pro and when I restarted I get error 55 code (No BIOS Detected) and a continuous tone from the system speaker. Did I miss something?

Switch to your 2nd or 3rd Bios setting and update only Bios 1. Did you run Windows_Update.bat file "Run As Administrator"? I would download a fresh zip file of the Bios as well. And make sure the your Bios Switch is not at a Mid Point (Between 1 & 2 or 2 & 3) A lot of us use a USB Thumb Drive to update the Bios.

The Bios switch was initially in the 1 position, my first attempt was using the .bat file update as an administrator - it went through the process and then told me it would restart. Windows gave me a message that my computer would restart in 30 seconds, I clicked "Okay" and it went to shut down immediately and did not reboot. I hit the power button and got the tone + error 55. I decided to try a different method for the Bios 2 switch position. I used an elevated CMD prompt (administrator), copied the bios file into Fptwin\64, and ran the file using 'fptw64 -F 1E878105.bin' in the elevated command prompt. It went through the update process and said there were no changes detected. It didn't try to reboot, so I shutdown the system. Now Bios 2 is displaying the same message (55). I am going to hold off on any updates on Bios 3 until I get ahold of an EVGA technical person - is there any way to revert to some sort of default for bios 1 or bios 2 in the meantime? I tried the clear CMOS button but it didn't work, it spooled up my fans and posted 'FF' in the code box. I'm surprised such a high end board doesn't have a BIOS update feature through windows - is there a 3rd party software I would use to re-flash my bios 1 / 2 to default or something?

Can you boot with Bios 3 and then boot to a USB Thumb Drive and then with the Power on move the Bios Switch to Position 1 and update the Bios, remember you must use Shift Y to update the Bios. Once done with 1 then move the Switch to Position 2 and repeat. This will leave Position 3 with the Old Bios Version. http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1142390 show you how to create a DOS USB Thumb Drive PS I never use or Update the MB Bios through Windows.

Remember to MOVE the Bios Switch to Position 1 after you have booted to the USB Drive and Before you Start the Bios Update. Do power OFF your COMPUTER After you Update Position 1 and Position 2 even un plug the PSU Cable and wait for a count of 10. then Power Back On.

I actually have the older version. I figured it was the keyboard so I ordered a CM quickfire keyboard which gets here tomorrow.
I just found it weird that it works with the older bios and when I initially flash to the newer bios it works until I reboot.
Did it ever work under Windows 8.x? I have 3 PS2 to USB KB adaptors and NONE work under 1.05 but then the KB's are 14 Years Old.I was a Hit and Miss under 1.04, I broke down and bought my neighbor a new USB KB for $9.99 and a he is happy now and my Door Bell is no longer ringing day and night.
Works perfect using the 1.02 bios that came with my mobo, which is why I found it odd.

I had the same problem after having flashed 1.04 or 1.05. The only way I could reactivate my keyboard was doing a new installation of Windows 7. Strange but there was no way to get the keyboard working after flashing bios. It stopped working when Windows was starting. Gave the EVGA Support Team a message that there is a problem. My solution was just "new installation" of Windows 7. Then everything was working again.

The tech I spoke to chalked it up to a faulty usb controller and put in an rma. I get my new board tomorrow. If the problem persist I'll reinstall Windows.

Thanks bcavnaugh, I got the same result as ExtremeLuke, although with Win7 ultimate, when I followed the EVGA directions for my new z87 classified. After reading your post, I followed your clear instructions and all went perfectly. Everything is working great. I just want to say thank you for the excellent guidance. Note to EVGA: Your directions do not work. You should listen to bcavnaugh. Your directions don't even provide the correct file names in the DOS method. Get it together!

EVGA_JacobF USB Flash/DOS Drive Installation
- Create a bootable disk.
- Extract the above .zip file to your bootable disk.
- From a DOS prompt, run DOS_Update.bat
- Press Y in CAPITAL LETTERS to start the flash process
- DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
- After the flashing is finished, shut the system down completely. Then power on again.
Fixed that for you, regarding what file to run :P Tried once from windows but that screwed up Bios nr. 3, switched to nr. 2 and used the USB stick/DOS method. Worked like a charm. But now I have 1.05 and I still get the USB beeps at boot even with Quiet Boot set to on.

This may sound like a stupid question, but is there any programs offered to change the start splash image? I just upgraded to a Z87 Classified, from an Asus Corsair iv, which offers the ability. Starting my computer up my computer and not seeing "Dawn of a New Day" seems kinda alien...
