Hello everyone

I have some questions about TEC w/liquid cooling. I have an 875k I7 running on a P55 FTW MB. I have an Old ThermalTake full copper water-block mounted to the cpu with a swiftec 655 pump and a blackice 360mm radiator with 3 cougar fans cooling it. I also have a 2nd 360mm radiator cooling my 2 video cards (Old Old GTS8800 SSC 640MB) That I will replace with the 680 hydro classified when it comes out (IF I can get one). And that cooling loop is pushed by a 350 swiftec pump. All of this is stuffed into an Old Cooler-Master Stacker STC01 case.
I have some extra parts lying around as far a liquid cooling components: Thermaltake p500? pump, a Cooler-Master 120mm radiator and a Swiftec 240mm radiator (I can only use one of these two radiators because one needs to stay in my other computer), and two more Thermaltake pure copper blocks.

The 875k is over clocked to almost 4Ghz on all cores via x30 multiplier turbo boost settings (It was easier for me that way and runs cooler). At idle my cpu runs @ 38C and 68C in Prime98 with an ambient temp of 25C. This last weekend I caught the TEC bug. I thought why not? I would like to get those temps down a bit and keep the noise down. And I must confess and I know it's part of the problem, the 360mm are stacked with 3 fans in between them and 1 fan on top soon to be 3 (no room). The video card radiator is on the bottom with the cpu radiator on top. The fans blow in on the cpu radiator and all the heat exits out the bottom of the case. I did this because I needed to fit it all in the case.

I didn't do my research and purchased a TEC1-12709. Below are the specs
Voltage     : 12V
Umax (V)    : 15.4V
Imax (A)    : 9A
QMax (W)    : 138.6W
Dimensions  : 40mm x 40mm x 3.6mm
Power Cord  : 100mm
I have a 970watt PSU
Can I just the sandwich the TEC between the two thermaltake blocks and cool the TEC with the 120mm radiator? I am not looking to cool the cpu with only the TEC but use it to supplement my current set up. I read somewhere that because the PSU is 12v instead of 15 I will loose a lot of performance from the TEC. I don't know how much power my computer uses all together as far as how much headroom my PSU has to power the TEC (I'm guessing I have about 280watts left). I am also wondering if this will help to cool it down at all. I know there is a calculation to figure all of this up and math is not my thing. Can't you just do it?
Sorry & Thank you for your help.

if your psu isnt enough build a plexi pedistool relocate a rad in there and slap a second psu in there

i went to the darkside (intel) they had cookies lol

Your TEC for stock settings if fine. At stock settings your CPU will produce 130W of heat and your 138.6W TEC will be able to handle that load. If you start overclocking your CPU, you increase the heat load created and will no doubt be going well over your TEC's 138.6 W rating.

I found the perfect thread for you, because it was started by me and with the help of Lehpron, explains everything. From the size of TEC needed, to the amount of cooling provided and cooling need to cool the TEC's.

Check this out, i know it will help you out, but it is quite a bit of reading.

I did read that post. It has formulas in it  I used a calculator and it says with the overclock I have on it, my CPU does about 181 watts. I did get a 2nd TEC but my power-supply would be short of the load. I may have to buy one of those power supplies you can install in the drive-bays later down the road when I have more money. I also thought since the two tec's would be so op on the cpu, I could use a light dimmer from Lowe's or something to control how much power they get and fine tun it to as cold as it can get before my PSU shuts off The parts should be here in a few weeks. I bought some nice 40x40x10mm copper water blocks on ebay for real cheap. They are unfortunately coming from China so that will be a while.
I may be back with more questions or pictures of this Frankenstein cooler when it's done

One question, if you are planning on controlling the voltage via a light switch dimmer, why are you going with 2 smaller TEC's instead of one powerful one?

Also if you hook up 2 TEC's in series and use a 24v power supply you will draw the same amount of current as if you had only 1 TEC connected and they will both receive the same amount of voltage.

A total lack of planning. I had originally planned on having just one to supplement the cooling system. Then I just got excited. It is a very good idea to put them in series on 24v. I hadn't thought of that. I did see some power supplies that would fit the bill. I will do more research on that

It's all done (until I modify it again)
Here are some pictures of what I slapped together

I added the hydro copper block & back plate to my video card. I runabout +4 cel over room temp at idle and +10 cel under load. I am using a Phobya 120mm radiator and cougar super quite fan to cool it.
