I have a Thermaltake mid-atx case that comes with 3 fans, 2 120mm (1 intake on front, 1 exhaust on back), and a large 200mm exhaust on top. For my CPU cooler I have a Corsair H50 quiet edition that replaced the 120mm on the back. The cooler requires the fan to intake through the back so now I only have the 200mm set to exhaust. To add to the issue, my MSI G45 Gaming MB only supports 3 pin fan control through the SYS fan headers and not the CPU fan headers (these require 4 pin). I wanted to get an H105 cooler, but this will not clear the MB on top. I was thinking of installing a fan controller, and replacing all the fans with Corsair performance or quiet edition fans, but it is my understanding that these fans are only 3 pin. What are my options to help prevent heat build up in my case?

I have a corsair h105 at the top of my case. If you have a vent on top all you have to do is put the cooler in the case and 2 fans up top out of the case. I have to cougar vortex pwm fans Pulling hot air out hot air out these are 4 pin fans. It came with 2 fans but these fans have a dBA of 37 and my cougars are like 17.3 dBA. plus the Air flow is at 70.5 CFM good fans. I was actually thinking that I could pull the hard drive case out because I have a spot out front also where I could but for now it is sitting up top.

If I understand you correctly. There are three ways to convert 3 pin fans to be controlled by your motherboards pwm signal. On the G45 there are two pwm controlled fan headers at the top of the board. #1 you would need a Zalman ZM-MFC1 fan controller here which is feature rich. A cable, which is provided, links a 4pin header on the controller to your mobo 4 pin header then connect power and fans to begin using. There is a mode switch on the controller to utilize PWM signal that must be engaged and a few selectable curves that are preset. A bit more limited than #2 below but non the less effective. #2 buy a Phanteks Enthoo Primo Case here that comes with a fan hub that does exactly that, controls 3pin fans with the PWM signal. Note Phanteks will have the hub available as an aftermarket product sometime late March or April at there online retail shop if buying the case is not for you. I can say unequivocally it work well as I have 11 3pin fans connected to it that are all controlled by the motherboards PWM signal and the curve can be adjusted by the software that MSI provides. or #3 DIY build your own controller here Side note: In both scenarios described above I would recommend all fan except rear case set to intake. This would create positive pressure in the case which has many benefits beyond best performance.

I did have mine set to intake but it seemed like my cpu was getting a little bit hotter because it was just above it. So I turned them around but thinking of turning them back or just moving the cooler to the front. It seems like it was like 2 or 3 degrees difference

Could you tell us the model of the case were dealing with and how many HDD's,SSD's,Optical drives, and any other devices you have in it besides the mobo, cpu and psu? That would help us help you tremendously more with recommendations etc.... Your ultimate goal is to create positive pressure inside the case.
