Can someone please explain why some companies put odd numbers of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports on their cases?
It's such a horrible idea. It wastes a 2.0 Header unless you randomly have an extra single USB port to bolt onto your case like this
http://ecx.images-amazon....aUsL._SL500_AA300_.jpg and for the USB 3.0 header it uses a whole USB 3.0 header but only gives you one port.
And I'll just Ignore the case of those USB 3.0 Passthrough cables we had while they were still officially standardizing the header...
Im about to buy a new Front I/O header for my K63 because it uses a single USB 2.0 port and a single USB passthrough (which im not even using because i think passthroughs are retarded) The new one will have 2 USB 3.0 ports going to a USB 3.0 header. Alternatively I could get one that has 2 USB 2.0 ports going to a dual USB 2.0 header. Im just lucky Lian-Li builds their cases somewhat modular...
But I just looked at the NZXT Tempest 410
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146080 and It looks like an amazing case if not for the 3xUSB 2.0 and 1xUSB 3.0 (going to a dual USB 3.0 Header) I just read a review from AnandTech and as they put it "But opting for a third USB 2.0 and a single USB 3.0 results in having a split USB header and then wasting an entire USB 3.0 port off of the motherboard."
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4678/nzxt-tempest-410-elite-jack-of-all-trades/1 The CoolerMaster Elite 431 does the same thing 2xUSB 2.0 which is great and 1xUSB 3.0 going to a dual USB 3.0 header... Not as bad as the NZXT but still... WHY!?
