So ONE review of a particular card not getting as high OC is enough to make people jump ship? Boy oh boy talk about tunnel vision.

Go ahead... give me your queue position. Thanks!

You can have mine... and i jumped ship because the card got delayed for a third time without any clear information towards the pre orders.
The review can just be bad silicon lottery... but there have been 2 reviews already that show poor cooling performance.

Fair enough.

Crossing my fingers for some moderately good OC capability!

If it's true and the extra power doesn't actually help OC then I could only recommend the SC or the standard ACX, especially being that with the FTW and its custom PCB there may not be waterblocks made for it, as what is the case with the 980 Ti FTW. At least, I can't find any for it at the moment. Though some people will still accept the price premium if they like the custom PCB and RGB shroud.

I had high hopes for the FTW. I am going to be extremely disappointed and let down if my FE ends up being a better card.
With +235 core and +500 memory with 80% fan and 120% power, stable, boosts to 2126 and 5,642 Firestrike Ultra, I think the $699.99 price tag was definitely justified, and I can understand why Nvidia priced it at that range considering they knew how throttled these cards would be even in the hands of AIB's. Plenty of people hitting 2k+ on FE's without crazy settings.
I hope more reviews come out to prove this wrong.

Honestly think FE + EKB watercooling is the best route to go. Maybe see how Hybrid does, but after the FTW I am not holding my breath.

I want a true enthusiasts card not something pretty much "tapped out" straight out of the box....perhaps the TI will be that.  Great looking cards, great performance but again I'm wanting an enthusiasts card.  EVGA and Nvidia are and will remain my companies of choice as I know they will come though eventually.

Very pleased with my 'flounders edition' cards as well. :)

Temps for me are great with a decent fan curve. Not very noisy for me at all.

Actually the best cooling is the MSI one... No throtling. Good temps and noise.

TechPowerUP has reviewed the Asus Strix, MSI X and Gigabyte 1080s and the Strix had the coolest temps with the best performance. MSI only won on noise.

Thanks for the post, i am glad i hold the purchase, my inside contacts were right once again.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Had a FE evga, stable at 2050, but lowered as low as 1964 81C. Recieved a 1080 msi twinfrz, ftw never shipped from amazon lol. Stable at 2126 66C, curious how most overclock core numbers are similar.

Curious as to how you got a card, when all I see is a notify button on the order page.

I was gonna hold out for the FTW but ended up getting a SC.  I havent even bothered to OC it anymore than stock it came and kept having issues with the EVGA OC scanner.

Other than that, the card has been great.  I have an LG ultrawide 1440p/60hz monitor and can play any game at max settings.  The Witcher 3 looks unbelieveable.  I havent seen the card get above mid 70s and normally has been sitting just under 70 during extended gaming sessions.  W3 has some places where it dips down to 40fps but thats mostly in cut scenes and I dont really notice.  I havent played much on my 4k tv, I imagine it might struggle a bit with settings maxed but I just cut back some settings like AA that you dont really need in 4k anyway and it runs smooth as butter.

Not really sure what the people complaining about cooling and OC are looking for, maybe I just got lucky.  A card that can let me max out graphics at 1440p and nearly max at 4k and stay in the low 70s and quiet, cant really ask for more.
Here are some screenshots from my W3 game, doesnt get any better

i got tired of waiting for the Asus Strix to go on sale on Newegg and striking out on the EVGA SC/FTW 1080's.

just placed my order for a Founders Edition so i can get my desktop up and running. i can always sell it later when the 1080 ti, or next gen GPU, comes out.

EDIT: i'm, pretty much, a noob when it comes to overclocking. what's the best/easiest program to use with the GTX 1080? i'm pretty relieved that i can finally stop losing sleep from camping and refreshing various sites all day and night.

My MSI card is so quiet and I have not seen it go above 71c while benching and overclocking. Its also a decent overclocker.

This whole round seems to be about the silicon lottery. The only true difference in cards is how well they cool and how loud they are.

Unfortunately I fear that the ACX is one notch below the 6 Frozr the msi twin in terms of noise and temperatures.

I think EVGA should narrow down our choices a bit if there's not a large enough performance gap between models. I'm starting to wonder why they even made the FTW this round. I think a regular ACX 3.0, a SC (or even call it the FTW), and then coming out later with a Classified that has a water block option would have been the way to go.

Maybe Nvidia just kept them too much in the dark about the chip specs until it was too late. I really don't know, but I do have some regret about not getting an SC instead. I guess I'll just keep telling myself "hey, at least it was cheaper than the Founders Edition." I suppose having a dual BIOS is kind of neat as well.

The FTW edition comes with a similar factory core overclock as the SC with guaranteed stability from the manufacturer but due to the better power phase option allows for further stable overclocks.  Its great to hear so many people achieve successful OC with the SC model but I'm pretty sure we're going to hear even more success stories pushing 2.1ghz on the FTW model.  That's how I see it at least; I could be off

No doubt the FTW and Classified should get better, more stable clocks.  Im curious what the real world performance differences would be.  Though i would buy the Classified just cause its the sexiest card Ive seen...

Honestly think FE + EKB watercooling is the best route to go. Maybe see how Hybrid does, but after the FTW I am not holding my breath.

 this man speaks the truth

FE has been good to me, will buy another. mine stays stable in the 1850-1875 range during load with factory settings.

I think the evga 1080s all look great. I don't mind paying the premium for the founders when they're so hard to get over here in canada.

No doubt is a strong sentence. At this point, I don't see any point in even releasing the Classy. EVGA is not at fault here. Nvidia are. It feels like they completely screwed over the any third part makers here. I'll hold out a bit for possible driver and custom bioses to remedy these overclocking issues but at this point it seems like the 1080 is a pleb-card/board.

Well as with anything new, it will improve as it goes through the system and we learn more about how it works.  If I was running a 970/980/980ti I would have waited until more of the custom stuff was released.  But I was running 2 amd 7970s from my previous build and i have both a 1440p monitor and 4k tv that I use with my computer, so I needed something that would be able to handle content well at both formats.  Its filled the bill so far.  If I had a monitor that ran 144hz or higher I would have probably been a little bit slower to buy, that or buy two and sli.

Lets not forget that most of these cards can hit at least 2.0ghz which is amazing in itself.
