How large are the gains going to be, roughly, since I can't know until I get it a fine tune everything?

I suppose it depends on a few things Nike..such has monitor refesh rate etc.
you will maybe see upto 20 extra fps in games but if your monitor is a 60hz one then itll be capped at 60,unless you want screen tear

You will be happy with your decision anyways. Faster gpu and a beefed up custom pcb with better components. And also RGB lightning if you are into that.

I don't think the price difference justifies the gains unless your gonna game at higher than 1080p. It will start to show more then. This is just my opinon though. I have a 1070 FTW and I'm quite satisfied with it. But if your budget isn't a problem go 1080 no doubt.

Since the 1070 is basically neck and neck with a 980 Ti both stock vs stock and OC vs OC (I did a LOT of research on this), you should expect 15 to 30% gains depending on what clockspeeds the cards run at and what games you play.

Not a ton, but it is a decent amount.

If budget permits. The 1080 is a no brainer over the 1070. Good move OP and will give you that extra oomph down the line.
