You could look into X79.  You are still on the enterprise/enthusiast level like the X58 but it is much cheaper than going all the way to X99, and still offers much more PCIe lanes than Z97 IIRC.  Also with X79 you get quad channel ram, but it is still DDR3 so it's not as pricey as newer DDR4.  I looked at both X79 and X99 when starting my new build a year ago and found that X79 had the better price vs performance.  I also built mine with a used CPU, and an open box ASUS RIVE-BE mobo which is probably one of the top performance X79 boards available.  If open box does not scare you or ASUS RMA that may be one way to cut the cost down some.  With my board all that was really missing was the OC key but I never really needed it.  My board is running great and never had an issue with it running a stock clocked i7 3930k.

Yea, this X58 tower I am on now has all these neat OC features that I don't even use.  Now, with my i7-4790k, I might do some OCing later on.

Well, I may have to return the one from Amazon then, lol.  I wonder if there will be enough room for a push/pull config though...

Well, a funny thing.  I was looking at the Vengeance C70 specs directly off their site and it says that as a mid-size tower it can support E-ATX.  So, with all my hardware I could have chosen an EVGA board?  It was even cheaper, but oh well.

Yes, but look at the tech specs.  Also, a google search shows that others have used eATX in that case as well.

It does look like there is plenty of room for E-ATX though it might overhang the feedthrough holes just a tad.

Either way, I can't return the mobo, but the board I got still looks pretty awesome.

I think that's an excellent motherboard. Gigabyte is a good company and it has everything you could ever want from a motherboard. I couldn't afford such luxuries when I put this together. I have a Gigabyte P67 motherboard that would still be rock solid if I didn't drop the CPU cover into the socket and bend some of the pins. If my hand didn't shake so much I could probably straighten them out.

I do admit, I feel fortunate being able to do this myself.  As I am doing another order for the h110i, I am looking to add a number of 140mm fans to the case.  Thoughts on these?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181080

I would have two to do a push/pull on the H110i.

I would get these next to do two more for the clear side, and two more (one for back, one for front methinks).

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1K633C9955

So, six in total.  I'm normally not a red color person, but I want it all to match.  Thoughts on these?  I also have four of these laying around:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553002

So, would going 140mm be better than 120mm that I already have for the sides (have to do 140mm for the push/pull).  Also, would those corsair fans work when they are different from the two that are stock with the H110i?

I think that the CPU cooler only accepts 120mm fans like mine does. I have some of the Cougar fans and while they do move a lot of air I decided on using the Noctua NF-F12 in a 'pull' configuration because Linus says they are the best and are the only fans he uses plus there is little or no benefit between push, pull and push/pull setups. A pull configuration makes it easier for me to clean any dust that accumulates on my radiator fins. A fill port on my radiator makes it necessary to have the fans on top of the radiator unless I mod the case. Using a push config caused my video boards to overheat from all of the hot are flowing down from the rad.

Ah, I see what you are saying.  A straight pull config might be better for my setup ( that way the fans are facing to the outside of the case leaving the rad exposed on the inside).  That would make me feel better than doing a push config and exposing my radiator to the outside of the case.  Oh, and it is 140mm fans for the cooler and most of the ports on the case.

I see 120mm fans on the cooler and the case:
  • Corsair H100i Fan dimensions: 120mm x 120mm x 25mm
  • Vengeance C70 is equipped with three 120mm fans out of the box, with mounting points for seven more to meet your exact air cooling demands.

It is possible to do a push/pull and have the fans on the inside. However it requires the use of 4  x 240x15mm fans, such as Thermaltake Luna 14 140mm thin series, and you would need to get 16 of the 6-32 x 1.75 screws to mount them. I have found them to be a nice high quality SP fan, if you don't mind the LED's. There are other 15mm thin fans out there but make sure of the mounting locations. A lot of them have 120mm mounting patterns that would NOT work on rad's.

.....another feature of the C70 series case is that the HD cage can be removed, it has 8 bays but can be taken apart to use either 5 or 3 bays depending on your needs. Helpful to free up space for airflow or for the addition of other components.

I guess it depends on the case but I only have about a half inch between my radiator and the heat sinks on the motherboard. Although I might be able to squeeze those 15mm fans in there non of the specs I can find show any of them moving as much air as my Noctua fans. Having just looked and found some dust accumulation on my radiator fins and the back of my video boards I will be spending some time cleaning today. Curse you Pgcmoore, for making me look inside my case!

LOL, you would need 5mm. And its so tight I had to run the CPU power cable before installing, I did notice about a 5c lower temp on the sons rig (AMD FX-8350) after installing them but that was after removing the stock Corsair fans that came with it. And that was with the Silverstone filters I installed over the intakes to make cleaning easier.

You can see how tight it is in this pic from my Mods/Rigs page. I shouldn't mess with anything that is already working fine. It usually breaks when I do that.

Yeah, not much room there Z, the Swiftech rad looks a little thicker than the Corsair ones.

The fans have to be on that side of the radiator because the tank on one end is extra large for a fill port. I just remebered after looking at it again. What can I say except I'm geting old and my memory ain't what it used to be. LOL.

Yea, I'm just gonna do a pull config for now with the H110i.  Going to return the H100i that I picked up from Amazon.  Looking at pictures I found on the net, I might be able to do a push/pull, but that can wait till I get it installed.  Right now I am thinking about SSDs...

I really want this one (Since I have a Samsung drive in my laptop and it is amazing):

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373

But this Sandisk I have heard a lot of good about:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171999

Or I could move over the Intel 520 180GB drive that I am currently using.

    Thoughts?

I have 3 Samsung 840 EVO drives, two in RAID-0, and I've never had any
problems from any of them. Proven track record and cheaper than the 850 model.

EDIT: I take that back, the 850 EVO is a better price and Amazon is cheaper than NewEgg: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OBRE5UE/?tag=extension-kb-20

Good choice again, Samsung and Intel are the best SSD's imo
The Samsung Magician softwares Rapid mode is awesome.
I usually spend the extra for the Pro versions thou, no real reason, I guess I had read about a few problems with the early EVO's but they seem to get pretty good reviews lately.

Using Firefox I found an extension called "Hover Hound" that gives me instant price comparisons from Tiger-Direct and Amazon when shopping from the NewEgg page.
