Ok, so I have an old EVGA Classy-3 Motherboard (X58 chipset) and it's time to build again!

So far I have two EVGA GTX 970s, but I'm looking for advice on what to do for the board, CPU, ram, case, cooling, etc.

My only conditions:
1) No more full size towers.  I have a HAF X right now and it sucks to move it around (I move a lot).

2)  The classy-3 is an E-ATX and I'm done with that.  No Micro, either.

3) This rig has lasted me over 5 years, so I'm more than willing to put my money where my mouth is (so to speak) and get the good stuff to last me another 5 years.

4) The mobo don't have to be EVGA.  They are having a deal on this board right now, any advice on this one would be cool (also on sale for $229):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132516&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=IGNEFL062515&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL062515&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL062515-_-EMC-062515-Index-_-IntelMotherboards-_-13132516-S1A5D

5) Although I'm not to worried about price, I'm not going to get the best just to have the best.  I never really used the potential of this Classy-3 and feel bad blowing all that money and never even doing any OC on the CPU.

6) I Have a corsair H100 cooling system and want the room in the new case to get the new H100i.

7) Already decided to get a Samsung 1TB SSD.  Have one in my laptop and I love that thing.  My hard drive decisions have also already been made (going to do a lot of RAID).

8) Any other general advice would be awesome as well.  I haven't built in a long time (X58).

Well, I would wait if we had specs on these.

First so you want a mod tower? An ITX build? X99 or Z97?

Eh, it could be modular?  I don't want a full size tower this time.  Also, no clue between X99 and Z97.  Which one is better?

X99 is better but more expensive. Uses DDR4, 6-8 core I7's, can use more ram

Z97 Still good not as expensive. Uses DDR3, up to 4 core I7's, only has 4 ram slots.

Case that I love that is a mid tower that can do all kinds of awesome water cooling or air setups is the Corsair C70 vengeance have one on my of rigs. Also what is your budget?

If you want to upgrade from an x58 I would honestly go with the x99 if you have the budget and not tired of the rat race to only have top hardware.
Also a good comparison between x99 z97 would be x58 and p55.

If you want smaller like shoebox/console size you would have to go with mini ATX or microatx

Next step up would be mid tower that fits both up to an ATX/E-ATX.

The z170 boards are for the new CPUs coming that will replace the current socket 1150 CPUs haswell/Devils canyon and the z97 motherboards, the new skylake CPUs they are not replacing the x99 motherboards or CPUs. But they should have both ddr3 and ddr4 ram flavor options.

I have a Devil's Canyon 4790k with a Z97 motherboard and I couldn't be happier. No need to overclock as it is fast enough as it is from the factory and it will fit into a mid-size case.

Honestly.....I don't have a budget (in other words, price is not at the top of my worries list).  I'm not going to blow money for money's sake, but I'm not going to get standard stuff, either.

OK, so X99 it is.  Now, the processor.  What are the top three?

LOL, that is also why I said "I'm not going to blow money for money's sake."  For some, that isn't the case, but that would be fore me.

I'm going to use my Intel 530 180GB SSD out of my current rig along with a few 2TB drives in my old rig as well.

I also have two EVGA GTX 970 SSCs that I am currently using that will migrate over.

Any thoughts?

Well, you were close.  I went a little shorter on the CPU, but they had a sale on Newegg, so I got it for $289.

Nice choice on the motherboard but I would spring for the 4790k.
Another $50 gets you 4.4 GHz.

Hmmm.....I'd have to cancel the entire order on Newegg.  What other options could I have?

If you can get NewEgg on the phone they might let you modify the order. I'm pretty sure they won't let you return a CPU once it's been delivered to you. If you actually need to cancel the whole order, now would be the time to do it before they package it up since it is the weekend.

Well, if you have to cancel the whole order you already have all of the links to just re-order everything. I pre-ordered my Devil's Canyon CPU from Tiger-Direct before the official launch. I didn't get any games but I did get a Planetside 2 T-shirt.

If it's like Amazon Prime you can cancel after thirty days and they won't charge you anything. If you sign up and then cancel you'll get the expedited shipping at no cost. I have no actual experience with NewEgg Premier.

Yep, signed up for the trial, and I'm glad it's only a trial.  Placing the order, I can't get 3-day shipping due to the Corsair Case.  What junk.

The case will probably ship separately but it has never taken more than 5 days for me to get a case from NewEgg. You'll have plenty of time to fondle your new parts before the case arrives, lol. You can insert the CPU in the socket and screw the bracket for the Corsair H100i to the motherboard while you're waiting.

You made some very good choices for hardware. I can't wait to see some pics and benchmark scores. With that motherboard you can even add two more GTX-970 later on. This thing is going to be a monster.

You made some very good choices for hardware. I can't wait to see some pics and benchmark scores. With that motherboard you can even add two more GTX-970 later on. This thing is going to be a monster.

Yea, I got my GTX 970s from here:

Normally, I wouldn't get them from Best Buy, but I had so many gift cards, coupons, and points that I only paid about a combined $500 for both cards.  I actually have enough additional discounts to pick up another one for about $200.  However, I am still debating that one.

You could look into X79.  You are still on the enterprise/enthusiast level like the X58 but it is much cheaper than going all the way to X99, and still offers much more PCIe lanes than Z97 IIRC.  Also with X79 you get quad channel ram, but it is still DDR3 so it's not as pricey as newer DDR4.  I looked at both X79 and X99 when starting my new build a year ago and found that X79 had the better price vs performance.  I also built mine with a used CPU, and an open box ASUS RIVE-BE mobo which is probably one of the top performance X79 boards available.  If open box does not scare you or ASUS RMA that may be one way to cut the cost down some.  With my board all that was really missing was the OC key but I never really needed it.  My board is running great and never had an issue with it running a stock clocked i7 3930k.
