For a 4,000lb tugboat, while the torque band is broad; those are garbage digits.  What modern 454 makes only 500ft/lbs?

Just pulled numbers from a basic crate motor off of Chevy's website. Numbers will increase dramatically with more mods and HP obviously. (Honestly, I was surprised the TQ was that low.) Just using that as a baseline comparison of a BB vs SB.

An LSx can and does make more more torque, but that's an apples to oranges comparison.

My car currently makes 514whp, 429wtq from a 4.6 and weighs in at 3700 with me in it. It most definitely does not feel like a tugboat.
Dont push your 4.6 past 500 unless you get a new block... Believe me I speak from experience... carry on now!

Only if it is a 4-valve lol ;)

I like my 3 valve I'm building a new block right now... The block is getting machines as of now and once I finish building I'll be good for up to 800 at the wheels... You running an off-road x or h? Don't tell me your catted, I have a guy that passes me and if anything I'll just put my stock back on... As for the 5.2l and the amount of torque it has that's pretty good... You can also count on well known shops offering tunes to beef that up as well as mods coming out...

lol well if you are asking me, I don't run a Ford engine.  I run a heads/cam LS1 that is completely straightpiped with literally zero emissions equipment on it :D

OBD2 is a programmable ECU, so you can literally shut the application off from the ECU and it will never register that your cats/O2 sensors, EGR are missing.  Most states have an allowance of about 5-6 applications to be shut off before anything is triggered on the check, how it knows and what it can see are where my ignorance kicks in lol

Okay, I won't tell you.

It's a 3V with nearly 40k at that power.  And yeah, I know I'm on the edge with that level of HP, but a lot of it also depends on the tune (and of course how you drive it).   Currently Im running a catted X-Pipe.  I can honestly say that Im not in love with the X-pipe, but I don't totally hate it.  When I finally run long tubes I'll go back to an H-pipe.

And I can't wait to see what the Voodoo can do with a power adder.

My first X-pipe was a BBK with ceramic cats and OMFG was it stupidly loud,  but the cats only made it a year before they started plugging up.  New X-pipe is a Magnaflow with metallic cats.  Much more subdued, but still loud enough to set off car alarms.

I like the burble on deceleration and the sound at cruising.  But the rasp and crackle during acceleration is what I don't like.

I personally like the raspy sound of Xpipes... When I had my 94 Gt that 5.0 roared with the Off-road Xpipe from BBK (learned never to get BBK HEADERS or Anything from them fast though)... Now I run Kooks or Pypes Headers (looks HQ is located 5 minutes from me) and there off-road H/X pipe... I am personally not a fan of Hpipes as I like loud... Anyone heading down to mustang week?

Should be another great collection of crash clips this year from Mustang Week!!  I've always had a sweet spot in my heart for Termi's with a Bassani X-pipe and a Borla Stinger setup.

But on a side note, if it's a V8, it's supposed to be loud and obnoxious...  If you can't deal with the rasp or the noise, then you probably bought the wrong car haha ;)

So wrong. I hope for my Mustang to be a DD someday, and I want to be able to have a conversation with a passenger or talk on my cell while I drive. My buddy has a straight piped '91 with a vortech and while it's fun, I would sacrifice the extra ~20-40hp that silence takes away.

Yes it weighs less than standard GT.

lol no.

I will even quote it again, just for you...  It will either the same weight or heavier.

http://blog.caranddriver....quick-is-a-flat-snake/

The curb weight of the GT350 is another story. Basing our curb-weight estimate on the regular, comparo- and10Best-winning 3810-pound GT is a given. It’s a known quantity. However, there are a lot of changes that will change weight. For the first time ever, Ford is employing magnetorheological dampers in one of its cars. These dampers will add some weight, and while it won’t be much, they are definitely heavier (including all the supporting doodads) than the GT’s dampers. The extra mass is well worth the added benefit of continuously variable damping, which may improve launch traction and will almost certainly improve upon the ride/handling balance that the GT nearly masters. Also, the GT350’s front brakes measure 15.5 inches in diameter and the rears are just 0.5-inch smaller. These are not lightweight carbon-ceramic rotors, but rather iron friction surfaces with an aluminum hat. Either way, they are adding mass to the straight-line equation.

Through the introduction of the new flat plane V8 that should cut some of the 444lbs of the 5.0L Mustang GT engine from the engine bay along with other weight saving components, the new Shelby GT350 will almost certainly weigh less than the 3,517 curb weight of the 2015 Mustang GT.

Sounds like a girly V6 on testosterone, but hollow.  What happened to the great sound of the 2v's and 4v's?  Even the new 5.0 sounds like a hollowed out anus compared to those "New Edges."

Rush I think you'll like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQhXHdyH1VI

That's my bosses car. Here's the list of stuff done so far:
11 5.0 Mustang
Pypes long tube headers
Pypes X Pipe
Magnaflow 3" Satinless exhaust into race mufflers
Boss 302 intake
JLT CAI
Custom tune with 7500 RPM redline

Also has a 125 shot on it, but we haven't gotten to tune it for that due to a faulty solenoid. Spanked a new Carmaro SS a couple weeks back.

I would like to see to see them do a secret 3-5 year long test on popular muscle cars released in the past few years. See which mfg has the least amount of problems. Take them to the track and drag strip once in awhile to really put them to the test.

Man this engine sounds absolutely awesome.

The more I read about this car the more it impresses me...lighter engine, new aluminum steering knuckles and hubs, lighter IRS components, larger and lighter hollow sway bars, awesome new brake design, front clip that is 20% lighter due to high strength steel usage, lighter drive shaft, new Tremec TR3160 transmission, magnetic ride control.  Amazing HP and torque for a small N/A V8.  Man Afterburner, you are going to love this thing.

Sounds like someone rolling a metal garbage can down a hill full of marbles, atrocious.

Car and Driver estimates 3,800lbs, you guys make me sad, I gave you guys the benefit of the doubt to actually read the article to see if you could find that (I even linked it twice)...

Directly from the prior article...
So, some bits will be heavier and others lighter. For our estimate, we’re giving the GT350 a 10-pound gift, but it’s essentially a wash with the manual GT at 3800 pounds.

These DOHC modular motors take up soooo much room, I would find it very hard that this engine weighs less than the 5.0L's, you're also giving 444lbs WITHOUT accessories, this engine easily tips the scales at 520lb with fluids and accessories.  The GT350R will be in the 3,650-3,700 weight range, this car is supposed to be substantially heavier.

Oh imagine that....you again.

Your article is old and the author was writing in the dark...most details were released after his writing last year.

You don't like the way it sounds, it's going to be two tonnes....yeah we get it.

Most articles after his writing still state that it will be about 3 8 0 0 lbs, three thousand and eight hundred pounds.  Please point out where Ford has released and confirmed the weight of this car?

There is absolutely no way that this car would be just $52,000 if it were under 3,500lbs.

I never said it would be under 3,500 lbs. I said it wouldn't almost be 4,000 lbs or more than a standard GT.

Ford just finally released hp figures.....more specs to follow.

BaltothewolfSo wrong. I hope for my Mustang to be a DD someday, and I want to be able to have a conversation with a passenger or talk on my cell while I drive. My buddy has a straight piped '91 with a vortech and while it's fun, I would sacrifice the extra ~20-40hp that silence takes away.

You don't actually gain that much from running an ORP or muffler delete. 5-10 max.  The only thing you gain is sounding like a redneck. There's loud and then there is ridiculous.   Im not a fan of the "lets get this car stupidly loud" mentality.   These are typically the same people who think that every time they accelerate, it must be done at WOT and then are convinced that everyone is impressed by the undisciplined blatty sound of their exhaust.

My current exhaust set up is loud enough that you don't forget its there, but quiet enough that you can have a conversation in the car at freeway speeds.   Go wide open throttle and it can get very loud.

From the sound clips of the new GT350, it sounds a bit subdued actually. But that's microphones vs. real world.   It sounds good, but I bet a some more open aftermarket mufflers would make it sound better.
