Test drove one its garbage...

Test drove a Hellcat? Pix or it didn't happen.

You can have your opinion, but I'm sure quite a few people would disagree with you. Looks like they're selling them out faster than they can be produced.

I test drove a 2010 SRT at the time at Albany Dodge in upstate NY, and though I couldn't get on it really hard since the dealer was with me, it was a great car nonetheless.

I took pix, it was this exact Bright Silver Metallic one here:

Its garbage because they under designed it... The car can't "hookup" to save its life if you try to get a decent launch in first... Then the problem of me not being able to see out of it... Other than that amazing car... I don't need pix to prove I test drove one... I've also test driven many other cars... It's not hard to do... Go to a friends house who owns a Challenger Hellcat and drive it...

Not true. Guys in my Mopar club have no trouble hooking up. In fact, one of them possibly holds the hellcat record run so far at 10.71.

It isn't the car that can't hook up... It's the driver.

And it's not garbage nor is it "under designed."

I don't know man... Maybe his tires were just bad... It's not me... Believe me I can handle the power of the car it just wouldn't hookup in first or 2nd... The second I grabbed 3rd I was gone man and my head snapped back... I just wish I could see out of it better... I'll see what tires he had on it...

The automatic Hellcats are where it is at, I have 200hp less and my car would hang with a six speed version on stock rubber.

In any case, this is ABs gt350 thread, so don't want to go too far off topic.

I agree with him, and as I said before choose your flavor. It's amazing that we can buy these machines with these numbers and still get a nice ride when decent gas mileage. If you don't like one for one reason or the other, there's nothing wrong with that, but saying it's garbage and under designed with nothing substantive to back it up goes beyond simple dislike and is disingenuous, IMO.

By the way, on the way home from that amazing run, Ricci posted a pic on Facebook getting 23mpg. How cool is it that you can have 700hp with 20+mpg?

I can't wait to see ABs gt350 and, by the way, my Scat Pack Shaker will be born tomorrow. :D

I'm amazed at how the 350R looks almost identical to the GT-R. And I can't say I'm a fan of big wings on muscle cars...seems like they're trying to evoke that touring car aesthetic. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure its actually functional and provides needed downforce for track use.

Maybe that's the idea though, trying to get sports/track car buyers to cross shop the Mustang.

Is it a muscle car? Or a pony car? Mustang was born a pony car, and the styling would be in line with that birthright.

The GT350R is a different animal from the GT350.    And yes, all those wings and aero you see are functional.

I really don't think it makes a difference in the current form. Pony car originally referred to a 2+2 configuration with a long deck and small cockpit, and a small motor. The Mustang in it's current form is more akin to a muscle car. Now it seems to be trying to blur the line between muscle car and sports car.

Good points. Blurred lines for sure. It's going to be a fantastic car.

Yeah but they are only manufacturing 100 or some low number Rs and they might do what they did in the 90s and make it to where you have to have a valid racing license to purchase it...

The way I learned it is
pony car. 4 seats, Long hood, smaller cab, short trunk.  Mustang, Camero, Dodge Dart...

Muscle car:4 seats, Long hood, bigger cab, long trunk.  Road Runner, GTO, Impala...

Sports car: 2 seats,   Corvett, Viper......

Traditionally that is how it is categorized, but it's hard to make classifications with modern technology and constant redesigns among platforms and generations.

So in other words the ponies are growing up to be big overweight horses that need to go on a diet.

For the most part, except I think the Camaro is the only "pony" car that lost weight for its next gen model.

You have Corvette models and the Viper now that stretch from the "Sports" car category to the "Super" car category.  Just lots and lots of gray areas now with more models and options available.

I have yet to find any make or model of car that could not drift. Heck, My Nissan Sentra drifted better than most when I was a kid. And it was not called drifting back then. We called it "Side saddle". In other words, we entered particular roads at about 35-60mph (Depending on the road) pulling the ebrake with the foot on the gas and went around corners while staying on our side of the road... And yes, they needed a lot of "Winding up" to make it happen...

I grew up on logging roads and pickups. We steered with the rear tires if you catch my "Drift" lol...

Sounds like you had that country boy growing up also? I had a 80' Celica, one car I've always regretted getting rid of. Let's just say, my guardian angel worked overtime, some of the crazy I pulled...

I get to where I'm able to drive again, love to get an old(pre-72) Chevy/Ford truck, drop a stroked 327/302 or a 289 with a six speed tranny and show these kids how to play. Although I did own a Integra, very fun car for a fwd...

They just have confirmed that this new 5.2L is going to make only 429ft/lb at the crank, and it will not see peak torque until just under 5,000rpm...  At sub 4,000lbs and that low of torque, you'll see maybe 360-370ft/lbs at the wheels due to kinetic loss through the drivetrain?  That's kind of disappointing in my opinion.

Only?!

429 foot pounds of torque from a 5.2 liter naturally aspirated engine is actually very good and the torque band is actually pretty wide. For comparison, a current 454 (7.4) produces 500 ft/lbs of torque.

As for figuring what it might be at the wheels, take 17% from the crank numbers.

For a 4,000lb tugboat, while the torque band is broad; those are garbage digits.  What modern 454 makes only 500ft/lbs?

For a 4,000lb tugboat, while the torque band is broad; those are garbage digits.  What modern 454 makes only 500ft/lbs?

Just pulled numbers from a basic crate motor off of Chevy's website. Numbers will increase dramatically with more mods and HP obviously. (Honestly, I was surprised the TQ was that low.) Just using that as a baseline comparison of a BB vs SB.

An LSx can and does make more more torque, but that's an apples to oranges comparison.

My car currently makes 514whp, 429wtq from a 4.6 and weighs in at 3700 with me in it. It most definitely does not feel like a tugboat.

Supercharged to make 514whp I would assume out of a 4.6L, but we are also talking about a car that could be 300lbs heavier and measuring flywheel horsepower.  I still think it's going to be a tugboat, novelty car that will no doubt be fast; just maybe not as fast as everyone is believing it will be.

The GT350 does not weigh 4,000 lbs....and it has lots of torque.

The Mustang GT weighs 3,800lbs, you're going to sit here and tell me that it is going to weigh less AFTER they have specifically explained that the newly engineered magnetic suspension, larger carbon ceramic brakes and "creature comfort" materials are going to make it heavier?

And 429-ft/lbs is soooooo much...

Like I said before, expect it to be close to 4,000lbs.

lol no.

I will even quote it again, just for you...  It will either the same weight or heavier.

The curb weight of the GT350 is another story. Basing our curb-weight estimate on the regular, comparo- and10Best-winning 3810-pound GT is a given. It’s a known quantity. However, there are a lot of changes that will change weight. For the first time ever, Ford is employing magnetorheological dampers in one of its cars. These dampers will add some weight, and while it won’t be much, they are definitely heavier (including all the supporting doodads) than the GT’s dampers. The extra mass is well worth the added benefit of continuously variable damping, which may improve launch traction and will almost certainly improve upon the ride/handling balance that the GT nearly masters. Also, the GT350’s front brakes measure 15.5 inches in diameter and the rears are just 0.5-inch smaller. These are not lightweight carbon-ceramic rotors, but rather iron friction surfaces with an aluminum hat. Either way, they are adding mass to the straight-line equation.

Dont push your 4.6 past 500 unless you get a new block... Believe me I speak from experience... carry on now!
