What RAMDAC is in the 980 Classified? Is it good enough to drive 1600x1200 at 100Hz? I am seeing signal degradation on my Nokia 445 Pro and I need to know if I need to get a higher-quality VGA cable or if I should get an external RAMDAC. Also, I am considering getting a F520, but would the RAMDAC on a 980 Classified be good enough to drive it at 1920x1440@90Hz?

Yea your problem here seems to be that you are exceeding the specs on DVI to VGA adapters. You should at least move up to DVI spec with these new cards.

CRTs can't use DVI. I'm not going to downgrade to a LCD over an adapter.

I've switched back to a 7970. Screw this. Throwing $2.50 RAMDACs into $700 video cards and then trying to push people to digital... The 7970 puts out a MASSIVELY better signal. 330MHz on the 7970 is as clear as 50-100 MHz on the 980s. I was starting to suspect the monitor has focus issues but when I tried a GPU that can send a signal that isn't garbled, it became clear as day that this is a simple case of send **** in (degraded analog signal), get **** out (blurry picture).

Guys, for those who don't know, rabidz7 is a troll at a few forums, mainly [H]. He uses ancient CRT monitors (which I'll admit, still have advantages vs. LCDs in some areas) and doesn't like modern technology. Best to not feed him or he'll keep coming back.

Zuhl3156 You might want to consider a better monitor and use a DVI-D cable. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=24-236-313&Tpk=N82E16824236313
Op is a troll but I want to bring up that monitor. I went through 6 of them all with issues, they are beyond terrible and Asus support is a joke at best. I bought a BenQ XL2430T instead and it was perfect the first time. The Benq is almost $100 more for the same panel but I feel the LCD controller and Quality control are magnitudes better. It is not an isolated case as many seem to be having issues with the Asus as of recently. I had 4 of them with 2-3 stuck pixels each in center, 1 refused to power on out of the box, and one had yellow backlight tint and a torn backlight diffuser film. Asus recommended me to calibrate the monitor for the dead pixels. Also I had issues getting warranty on one of it's professional series at work saying the warranty was 3 years when it was made not from when it was sold to me, I had proof of purchase. Also I noticed I could not get the Asus to ever calibrate with my spyder well always being out on color gamut. Yes it is a tn panel but color reproduction should be 99% of SRGB so I should get a decent calibration. It is actually a myth that 6bit ips monitors display color any better they just do not have gamut shift with viewing angle. If we talk about 8bit panels (true 8bit) then this is a different conversation. Any how the BenQ with the same exact panel managed to calibrate fine at 144hz. Both monitors have contrast and gamut shift at anything over 75hz so the higher the refresh the colors will be different though like I said the BenQ was able to be calibrated while the asus kept being way out on color space past 75hz. The only feature dropped over the Asus is 3d but not a big deal for me.

I actually had a Sony fw900 until around 2007. It was a great monitor but it had some things that most high refresh lcds with led backlights have an advantage over. Modern 144hz lcds put out way for brightness, are way lighter (one of the reasons I got rid of the beast of a crt), use way less power, do not require 30-40 minutes to fully warm up to reduce geometric issues, and do not fade brightness as much with age. Also the killer for me with any aperture grill monitor was the 2 supporting wires you could always see that annoyed the crap out of me. Also the modern 144 hz lcds have less ghosting than the old crts like the sony had phosphor after glow. The only thing I liked more about the sony was black levels and color reproduction but modern 10bit lcds can be just as good, just horrible for gaming. So I will still take a modern high refresh lcd over the fw900 any day.
