Acer GD235HZ (1920x1080@120Hz)
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (EVGA) 110 °F
that was lazy copy/paste i know..
I just got this card yesterday. Here is my dilemma, I have a corsair 850m PSU because my older psu **** the bed.. I have not had any issues with this psu but I could not run SLI gtx 460's i had so i ran one card with 2 6 pin pcix power connectors ; ONE of wich was cpu 4x4 or 4x6 cant rem. I just read that CPU 6 pin plug can not be used for GPU power. Yet i have been usign it... i Have had issues burning out cards before without OC'n them. I am wondering if this is why... I am running this new card in same way.. 1 pcix psu connector is plugged into pcix 6 pin and the other is pluged into "PCIx 6+2 & 4+4 cpu" plugs  ima try to post a pic or link to the  pic of the psu

SO how would I know if this has caused my issues? I am able to run bf4 @ ultra at about 60 fps @ 1080

The CPU cable is either 8-pin or splits into a 4+4 pin. The PCIe graphic card cable is 6+2 pin.

Are you saying that you're powering your 970 with a 6-pin cable connected to the SATA/Peripheral port on the PSU?

CS or CX series ?? PSU

Your photo is a CX is that what you have ?

Step B: Installing the Corsair power supply
    1. Make sure the power supply’s AC power cable is not connected.
    2. Follow the directions in your chassis manual and install the power supply with
    the screws provided.
    3. Connect the main 24-pin power cable. The main 24-pin power cable has a detachable
4-pin mechanism in order to support either a 24-pin or a 20-pin socket on the
    motherboard.
    A. If your motherboard has a 24-pin socket, you may connect the 24-pin main
power cable from the power supply directly to your motherboard.
    B. If your motherboard has a 20-pin socket, you must detach the four-pin
cable from the 24-pin connector, and then plug the 20-pin cable onto your
motherboard without connecting the four-pin connector.
    4. Connect the eight-pin +12V (EPS12V) cable to the motherboard.
    A. If your motherboard has an eight-pin +12V socket, connect the eight-pin
    cable directly to your motherboard.
    B. If your motherboard has a four-pin socket, detach the four-pin from the
eight-pin cable, and then plug this four-pin cable directly to your motherboard

There's an ATX and a 4+4 CPU cable permanently attached on that PSU (regardless if it's CS or CX).  http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules/NDReviews/images/CorsairCX850M/DSC_1959_S.jpg

So it would seem that you do have it connected correctly from what you describe. As LONG as you are using the cables that say PCI-E on them - http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules/NDReviews/images/CorsairCX850M/DSC_1963.jpg

Re: Power requirements GTX 970 2016/08/26 13:40:09 (permalink)
wow... wait a minute.. i have been running a gtx460 out of this plug for 1.5 years. I have burned a prior card out but... .. i am using the two pluggs on the upper right and lower right. I am thinking of using 1 leg on the top and just jumping the 2 power connections off one leg. I have run the 460s like that but i just can not see why they would put multiple plugs on 1 leg and then have multiple power plugs on a pci express card and have it work... i would think- if you are able to get all this power out of one leg.. why have 2 connections at all? SO ... i checked with a meter the 2 connectors and out of the PSU they are exact voltage. I have no way of checking the capable amperage or wattage with a meter. Are you guys really thinking use a peripheral to 6 pin adaptor instead of one of the 6+2 pcix& cpu 4+4 plugs?

"There's an ATX and a 4+4 CPU cable permanently attached on that PSU.  " Forbidden.
yes the BOARD 4+4 cpu is perm and is plugged into the board (mobo)  The GPU is powered by the two 6 pin plugs that are on the upper and lower right hand side. I am not even sure wich is wich with the way its written.. its confusing. THe individule capbles that come with this modular PSU have double pcix 6 pin piggybacked (parallel) off each 6 pin on the psu. so, plug in the cable into the top 6 pin and it has 2 "pcix" 6 pin plugs. same with bottom. I plug into the 2 of them as stated above because it makes no sense what so ever to run 2 6 pins off 1 6 pin plug.

    Thanks for the model number

if the PCI power cables are 8-pin on one end and 6-pin + 2-pin on the other --- always plug the 8-pin into the PSU

The branched, twin 6+2 pin cable makes it easier to connect to a single card that requires two connections.

Most of the time these cards require a 6 pin and and 6+2 pin connection.
Some Classys require two 8 pin connections.

ok.. i think then i am good.I will continue to run the power the way it is. i thank you all for your speedy replies. I have never made such a big jump in GFX cards before. I have also never seen a performance jump this good even with SLI!
Before i could run BF4 pretty good @ low to medium and even high with no AA with res @ 100% running at 1920 x 1080 at about 30 fps. at low 60. or more. That was 460 gtx. With this card GTX 970  (twice the memory as the 460) I can run BF4 @ ultra max WITH high end AA with the most expensive gfx you could possibly slop on with res @ 200% @ 60 and up to 100fps (all single player) I was blown away. it melted my face off! This is just a single card with the gfx set to ridiculous!  And evga makes even better nvidia cards than this? I cant wait till i get an 8k monitor and work my next build.  Thanks guys
