I saw that NVidia was offering in-game coins with the purchase of a new 1080, but I bought mine before that promotion started, so I didn't get it. I figured oh well, probably a stupid game anyway, and kind of ignored it.

Some friends of mine were playing it over the weekend and talked me into downloading it and trying it out. I actually quite like it. It's a MOBA, a genre I only have a very little experience with, and not in any of the traditional MOBAs (DOTA, LOL etc.). So I'm pretty new to that.

The game with vision distance set to epic and the other settings on High at 4K resolution is running between 30-60 fps on my overclocked 1080 and 6900 processor. It's typically in the low 30s, with rises to 60fps only occasionally. That said, I haven't felt held back by the lowish framerate. I may make some further drops in quality to see how much of a difference it makes.

Obviously with coop vs AI we always win, because the AI just isn't that good. When my friends and I were all high-enough level to do PVP we played some teams with clearly very experienced MOBA veteran teams and got our butts handed to us. Still fun, but OMG. I (and we as a team) have a lot of work to do.

Anyone else been playing Paragon?

Apparenty nobody else cares, but I'm really, really addicted to this game right now. I like it a lot. I've got some complaints about the "deathball" aspect of it, but with a good team it's sometimes possible to counter this, and I've had a great time with Paragon so far.

I'm mildly surprised nobody else on the forum seems to be interested in it. If you're a MOBA fan, and a shooter fan, this is an interesting mix of those.

Are teams ranked or do you just have to hope that  blind luck is on your side, on who you play against ?

Can you chose who you will play with, aka just your friend for a friendly game as you learn the ropes ?

I played during the beta but just couldn't get into it. It felt really slow paced and clunky. I did enjoy the graphics and some of the new ideas they brought to the genre.

I've been playing it.  Was a big fan of LoL, but haven't played in a while and kinda missed playing a moba.  So far, it's really addicting and I got a bunch of goodies from my 1080 purchase lol

You can group up as a team, but you will have no control over what team you play against. There is a co-op vs AI mode as well, so if you're just learning the game you can team up with your friends (5-man team) and beat up AI bots for a while, until you at least have the basic mechanics down. Then you transition to PvP and find out you're not nearly as good as you thought you were.

Obviously PvP is much harder than vs AI. There are some lamer aspects of it, like two players teaming up and running around at the start of the game ganking single players they can catch out. This can be avoided somewhat if your team will use wards (devices you play that show enemies within range on the minimap), but it seems in most games I play I'm still one of the very few who conscienciously use wards. Still I get ganked a lot less now than I did a week or two ago. Also, games are supposedly matchmade, where the system tries to pair you against similar skilled players. Sometimes it works better than others.

The worst is if you only have a three-man team and get pair with two randoms, and they turn out to be bozos. It can be frustrating, but if they are decent players you can have a great match. I've had some pretty epic games. Last night I was grouped with two guys, the two randoms were OK but not stellar, and the other team was doing very well and were ahead in nearly any metric you could think of (slight level advantage, slight card advantage, one or two more towers down) and then we took down one of their inhibitors, which immediately absorbed a lot of their attention fighting off our super minions. We grabbed the Orb Prime while they were fighting off our super minions and attacked the core and killed it. They must have been pissed, and we pulled off one of those "snatch victory from the jaws of defeat" kinds of scenarios. It was great fun.
