OK , never done this before and i am pretty bad with computers so bear with me . first of all hey everyone :) i recently bought a EVGA GTX 1080 FE for my ASUS ROG G20AJ ( i upgraded it from a GTX -745 ) , installation was no problem i just followed a video. After i installed the card i wiped my old display drivers with DDU then installed the new current driver through Nvidea Ge-force. Now here's where things got a bit weird nvidea boosted all my games up to maximum and i turned on my current game i am hooked on Guild wars 2 i log in no problem then as soon as i get past the first load screen my display turns black and i hear a loud blowing noise coming from the computer ( the card crashed) there is no sound , the computer is on and the caps lock symbol comes up when i press caps lock but i essentially cant do a thing i have to hold the power button to reset it , i try this a couple times and i get the same crash. However when i put the game on all LOW settings i can play it just fine but any time i mess with the settings shaders AA or turn it from sub sample to super sample instant crash the second i hit the option just like before i have to hold the power and start over. I have tried to run several games Killing floor 2 ( crash) Divinity original sin ( crash ) TERA online (crash) but with Fallout 4 and TES Skyrim those two games are the only two that run perfectly fine no crash no nothing i even summoned 600 npcs in skyrim ( got slight fps drop but no crash ) i also summoned 600 alpha death claws in fallout 4 and got lower fps again but no crash at all ) so every single game i run except these two all crash ( also tried The Division and the first time i ran it i was able to play just fine for 10-15 minutes but now when i open it instant crash like the others) oh i also crash on the valley benchmark that came with the disc in the EVGA box if that helps now ive done some reading and i had a few friends try and help because they know computers better than me , i read that fresh installing windows fixes problems with this card but MY biggest problem with that is that when i click Reset PC ( wipe clean re install windows) the card crashes and i cant see my display to finish the reset , it also crashes on loading safe mode system restore and i cant boot from a USB either because it crashes when i do that so im basically stuck and it is real frustrating everything i try crashes the card cant system restore cant reset to factory settings cant boot from usb , i used GPU-Z.1.11.0.exe to check things out and it tells me everything is fine temp is fine power is fine  but i can only play 2 games and for whatever reason cant fix anything because my card just crashes so i would really appreciate some help with this if you guys have a minute and have ever heard of something this weird before i am attaching a text of my full system specs if you guys need any more information let me know

Do steps #2 & #5 listed here. Let me know if it helps fix your problems. Make sure you do #5 to all your games.

Yes don't use that GeForce experiance thing next time to optimize your games.

If you can't find each game config file just go into settings after stsrting the games and find the graphics setting in the game menu and select defaults and start over setting the game up as you like.. Max or ultra settings or whatever they call it to run it maxed out with the highest settings.. turn the settings down if needed.

You can't get into safe mode?? Did you try to use DDU to Uninstaller the drivers using the safe mode option?

Sounds like Windows is truly messed up. When did the pc problems start? Right after installing the new card or before?

Btw the normal procedure to install a new graphics card from an old one is to first Uninstall the current cards drivers first. Then turn the system off and remove it and install the new hardwarw.. boot the pc and I still the new drivers.

You need to restore the windows 10 from an earlier restore point. I'm not at my pc to hunt for where to find it to direct you.. I'm on the phone. :/

You need to restore windows from an old restore point then Uninstall the Nvidia drivers using DDU.

Why not just put the old card back and see if you are able to uninstall all you need to. Then install the new card?

Well he may have to do that anyways if he can restore from an old windows restore point since will obviously need the old card in there but yeah worth a shot to just slap the old card in and see if you can do the DDU from the safe mode option.

Slap the old card in and see if you can run the DDU and remove all Nvidia drivers then.

     i have a GTX 1080 not 760 i said at the top i just upgraded from a 745 to a 1080 .

I got that. But, the GTX1080 draws A LOT more power than the GT745.

But if you do go for a fresh install of windows use the new 1080 for that. Not the old card. The issue is the old drivers conflicting with the new card not an issue with the new card being bad most likely.

That's the power supply used with a GTX 760 installed. It might even be a weaker supply with a GT745.

Yeah 500 watt minimum psu for a 1080.

That's why it's mostly fine till ya game cause when you put a good load on the card it's drawing way too much power for that little psu if you are using less then that.

to my understanding the 180w. brick powers the main board components and such and the 230w. The gpu i thought 500w. was for whole computer setup not just a card i thought the card itself had a baseline of 180w

The GPU alone draws 180 watts. The recommended min of 500 watts is, as you said, for an entire system. What's the rated output for the power brick?
Asus lists these options for the power:
    180 W Power adaptor
    230 W Power adaptor
    180 W + 230 W Power adapter

    Which do you have?

hey thanks for the reply , i cant try option 2 because i cannot boot into safe mode the card crashes when i try and i cant see my display but i will try number 5

Just use the clean & restart (highly recommended) option in normal mode since you can't reboot into safe mode.

I did not know anyone made such small power supplies anymore. Are these things like 15-20 years old??

Miminum psu for a system with a 1080 is 500watts. I'd say grab a 650-750 watt psu just to be good.

Also ps's when old wear out so it may not even be close to its rated specks anymore.
