I'm seeing some odd behaviour so figure I ask bluntly or not so bluntly hopefully..
Is the reason this BIOS update is optional because it makes your stock volt clocking worse? What I'm seeing is that this stock LN2 BIOS is almost useless when you want to raise volts but great for stock volt gaming (allows raising clocks).
However, switch to a BIOS based on this new "revision" and now your previous gaming clocks can't be reached at stock volts, yet voltage can be increased no problems.

Keep in mind the multitude of variables that come in to play affecting individual outcome. It's impossible to arrive at a conclusion that applies to one and all in this case. Always been that way with overclocking. Also keep in mind that EVGA has to work within certain guidelines. Stock cooling overclocking is tricky due simply to the voltage guidelines (and limitations) a bios alone can deliver. Be it stock cooling or exotic, Classy and KPE cards can reach levels competitive offerings can not. The card is well designed; the manufacturer must adhere to certain limitations.

@ freundy, I was able to raise GPU threshold by lowering memory overclock. As with stock bios, there are voltage bound GPU ceilings; very decent in this case however. Out of testing is an updated  "out of box" version. Loving it! Check it out.. http://www.overclock.net/...1-21v-voltage-unlocked

I see that the "out of box" (1212.zip) was last updated in January, so I feel like it's the same one I've tested..  It does show a memory oc on it, I don't see one for that listing that has stock memory clocks.  There is one above it for "standard" (1187a.zip) has one without a memory oc, however, the gpu clock is pretty much at or below what my stock runs already so there wouldn't be any benefit there.

Anything I am missing on this?   I'd be nice to have the 1212.zip just with a stock memory setting to test.  Thanks!

My bad I forgot to include the 1212a with memory at stock, added. The dates were meant to distinguish the mods were based off the latest release, sorry for the confusion. But if you're card runs at 1202mhz or above without crashing using original bios and no running utilities, you're all set then.

I was just told by EVGA tech support that the optional BIOS being provided in this thread is "Not for the Kingpin, and is not recommended by EVGA".

I asked, "Even if it's coming from an EVGA tech?"

and he replied

"Yes, the only BIOS's that are authorized by EVGA come only from EVGA managers".

I am at a loss for words here.

Wait... Isn't Chris an EVGA manager? If not, why wasn't this shared previously.... I just emailed them for it too... I won't install it if it is sent to me.

Trust me, I'm as confused as you are. The guy even put me on hold while he checked with someone to make sure.

Everyone disregard my posts about this BIOS not being official. I don't know what the EVGA tech I spoke to was on, but he gave me an email address to receive an "Official" BIOS from an EVGA Manager, and guess who it came from........you guessed it, the same Manager that started this thread. Wow EVGA tech support, get a little more organized please.

I can confirm that the BIOS emailed to anyone that requests it from us directly is created by EVGA and supported by EVGA. Please simply email me if you do need the update and Jdookie I am very sorry to hear of any confusion.

Re: Optional BIOS for GTX 780 Ti Classified and GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N cards 2014/02/20 15:56:38 (permalink)
I am using this bios now, it clocks to 1150mhz just like my stock, however scores less than stock on 3dmark11 bench tests.  I didn't fiddle around with precision x though.

Also it crashes on Borderlands 2 instantly, can't even get to the character selection screen.  I don't know why my card doesn't seem to like ANY bios other than the original stock one.  It doesn't make any sense to me, even this one has the same specs as stock but something is obviously different as it crashes.  On top of this it looks like i may have overwritten my stock bios on ln1 by accident one of these last times :(  So now I am waiting for EVGA to send me another copy of their .rom file as the original's link has expired.  /sigh

Does anyone have access to the original stock bios to the 780 ti classified card i can flash ln1 back to?  Not the newer version Chris B is emailing out, but the stock stock...that has performed the best in my records and has been stable...  Thanks

First, do you guys have regular Ti Classifieds or Kingpins? I ask because the BIOS in that link is for the regular Classified only. Second, do keep in mind that the BIOS in that link is from a 3rd party source and is not supported by EVGA, so be sure to only write that BIOS to the LN2 side. Last, there are newer BIOS's than that one if you're at all interested. Here's a better link:

I have a regular classified 780 Ti, no kingpin.  yeah I didn't mean to overwrite the LN1 bios, it was accidental.  I'll put back on there EVGA authorized bios once I get an email from Chris B about it.

I'll give some of these skyn3t bios's a try and see if that fares any differently, however, I won't hold my breath.  For whatever reason my card only likes stock.

*Edit*
No dice on the sky3et bios either.   Hopefully the emailed bios will be as flawless as the stock one that came with the card.  Does anyone have this by chance the default stock that shipped with the card?  Thanks.

I have a regular classy, and that is the bios kingpin himself used to get the classy to 1600mhz core on ln2. if you look to the bottom post (in the link), youll see a link for a classified tool to turn up the pwm freq, which I forgot to mention, my bad. I used that to turn my pwm freq too 400khz from the stock 260khz, which I believe is the main problem with this card. NOTHING worked until I upped the pwm freq and raised the voltages some. I flashed that bios to the ln2 bios, haven't looked back since. still only get about +100 on the core, but that's still enough to get 1241mhz core no problem. hope this helps guys :)

oh and btw... please don't use bf4 as a test to see if your oc is stable, bf4 itself isn't stable and crashes no matter what. stock clocks, stock bios, anything--- choose a stable game for figuring out your oc

You shouldn't need anywhere near that much voltage tweaking just to hit 1241MHz. Keep in mind that when you increase pwm, you are also increasing core voltage. The two go up together. I also noticed that when I increased pwm, the power coming from the wall went up substantially. In any case, I didn't need as much voltage tweaking as you're doing with my two regular Classifieds until I went over 1400MHz. Are you on air doing all of this??

What kind of problems are you having with all these bios's? They are all pretty much the same except for the fact that the modded ones have the limits turned off. Some have boost disabled (which I love), and others have base clock and base voltages tweaked a bit, but for the most part, once you start setting your own clocks and volts, they should all work the same. I didn't find that any of them caused any kind of instability.

Well the ASIC on my card is only 66% which I believe is fairly pathetic seeing as I paid a premium for this card. But yes the card needed higher voltages/ pwm freq to be stable.

My card has about the same asic, and overclock extremely well with good voltage setting. It currently sits at number 16 on 3D Mark 11 performance for single card. I don't believe asic has much do with what we see compared to what we believe.

All of these bios work for me. I have tried them all. All are game stable and 3dmark stable. But all of the bios that aren't stock score worse in 3dmark. This is with no tweeking. Just loading and running. Trying to figure out why. I have two in SLI and they destroy every game but I really for them to tweeking and play around with benchmarks. Every time I add 100Mhz to any of the bios loads they fail. That's on the core. My memory is hitting 1900 no problems even on stock bios for both cards. Core will let me hit 50-70 MHz without a crash.

Weird?!?!? Did you try to change paste maybe only cooler was problem.
It's not often problem on dual cooler cards, overheating.
If I play games without panel after 30min became hotter inside but that's normal.
People I know play without side panels on R9-290 DC2 too and R9-280X.
Same as me, after half hour temps are 10C higher on every hardware.

I compare test between my card and official ASUS GTX780Ti DC2 sent for testing...Card cost 25e less than mine.
Domination of EVGA GTX780 K|NGP|N Classified is obvious, and not only that ASUS GTX780Ti DC2 must be overclocked on 1100/1950 MHz, (that's probably boost close to 1250MHz and + 400MHz on memory) to give same result as K|NGP|N Edition out of box.
Probably binned chips and tight latency on Samsung make distance. Even tested platform have stronger CPU than mine overclocked on mine speed, 4770K - 4.5GHz. I thought on memory because in Valley where memory play big role difference out of box on same cards are more than 300 points, KP Edition don't have so higher clock.

My two asus directcu 2 780ti's ran much hotter than my kingpins. 30 min of bf4 the asus's were running 80c. My KINGPINs don't break 68c.

I am having issues when games don't require high compute power from the videocard, such as league of legends, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 - my frames will spike between 144 down to 20fps... i have a 780 TI EVGA with the Precision X running. When my frames drop, my card usage doesn't go up, GPU clock remains at 876, the power stays at 55% and GPU usage goes above 50%..

In battlefield 4, the game stays a solid 120-144 fps.. i wouldn't think lower end games would run worse?

will this Bios fix my issue? -- thank you in advance!

I must find some BIOS where I can't hit power target max so easy but I want to keep memory timings...
I only tried 1850MHz and 1900MHz and both pass with stock BIOS. I didn't try more at all but with 1900MHz and tight latency I'm satisfied. And difference is about 80 points more in Unigine Heaven 4.0 Extreme 1920x1080 with 1900MHz than 1750MHz Memory...same GPU Clock... I can't wait to replace PSU to try GPU overclock.

Spoke too soon. I thought these were game stable. Playing COD ghost for over 30 min = crashes. Tried on a few other games also. Now hawken crashes within a couple min. Put the GTX 690 back in and she is good to go. I have sent ChrisB an Email for the new Bios. I need something thats stable now.
