This is pretty cool news, basically taking those unused integrated GPU's on your mobo and putting them to work to help crank out a few extra frames. :D

A few more frames for free if you are in that situation of course

Interesting in what this would mean for the cost of gaming hardwareImagine a gaming rig for $500 or less a year from now being as powerful at gaming as a $1,000 rig now or close to

Kinda what LucidLogic X tried to do a few years ago on the old Z-77 Mobos. Didn't work very well at the time because it was software, not written into the DirectX, like this! SO maybe it will actually work this time!

Words are one thing, and hoping it will work is right on the same page. Seeing it work will be what actually matters though.

Didn't AMD already do this with their APU? since you don't require the same gpu to crossfire, you can use the APU to assist the gpu. I haven't heard anything about that since it was implemented, unless the idea died prematurely.

That Hybrid Xfire, Nvidai did the same with Hybrid SLI

Well, then maybe Direct X can implement gpu stuff better than the gpu companies. At this point, it is all up to speculation, but I definitely do let see a $500 nearly as well as a $1000 system just with this. Maybe if they force the hybrid idea onto all gpus, but I don't see Nvidia allowing that.

Things often look great on paper and in synthetics but not so much real world usage.  And then there is proper implementation by programmers.  How long has DX11 been available and hardware manufacturers are still having to update drivers to fix sloppy coding?

I truly hope even half of the supposed benefits of DX12 are true.  Time will tell.

I sadly don't see many of these features being put to use right away. Hell so many games are still using DX9. I imagine when DX12 is out we'll just see DX11 be the new ''standard''

Heck the results of the steam hardware surveys still surprise me that so many people are still using older components. When you consider that most developers still want to cater to the largest audience possible in terms of system specs it worries me that they will be cautious when potentially alienating people on older tech.

Yeah I do remember reading that which is certainly good news..but as these guys have to make a profit..their still going to target the widest audience they can (i.e. console ports) I'm hopeful that PC gaming gets a boost and that developers stop taking a 1 game fits all approach where the PC version gets gimped based on what PC hardware can actually handle versus a console.

Well good news is that nearly all "gaming grade" PC's will be capable of running DX12 especially since Win10 will be free for first year.

Regarding mixing onboard and discreet, might work better where the onboard is doing something less intensive like post processing.
