What do you think of the specs?  http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/b3088/evga-gtx-980-classified-acx-2-0.html

Super fast card with good overclocking capability? Can handle anything, including Watch Dogs at the highest settings? What are your thoughts on this upcoming card?

For some of us that want a card now, I will be happy with the "Classified". I always liked those cards. I have the 580 "Classified" now, and I'm looking forward to that 980. I could always step up within the 3 months if the GM210 comes out during that time. Also, it may be more important to you than to me about those things.         :P

Anyway, if anyone wants to comment about the other specs, I'd like to read what you have to say.

Wouldn't you rather spend your money on a fully unlocked card though instead of buying one that isn't fully unlocked?

What do you mean by fully unlocked? GTX 980 is the complete version of the maxwell die, if there will be 980ti they will just have DoublePrecision engines in addition on top nothing more, they are going for a symmetric SMM this time around so 16 SMM is the perfect symmetrical and fully unlocked chip there is.

Looks pretty nice, however, how long will one have to wait?  A year?  Folks are saying availability hasn't ever been this bad...?

What is it about the classified that makes it worth purchasing over any of the other 980s? I understand that the clocks will be different, but.. why in the world wouldn't you just buy the cheaper 980s and overclock them? I've seen a couple of youtube reviews that were able to get 1500+mhz on their card. Is there something different about this card other than the fact that it has RED stickers instead of Black or Blue ones? Frankly, as of right now, I don't see ANYTHING about this card that makes it worth buying.. They didn't even bother to make it look good/different... I don't know, give me an unmbrella and call me a rain cloud *shrugs* I guess I've just been disappointed overall with this whole generation of EVGA cards. I might be with Sajin on this one. Waiting might be better.

I think card will be fantastic, you will pay about 150$ less than for GTX780Ti Classified for little more performance.
I mean on price of GTX780Ti when you thought to upgrade.
The best thing is because you can make GTX980 Classified SLI next year and to pay next card 300-350$ used.
Together that will not be super expensive setup but Performance will be enough for next 3 years.
I like because GTX980 Classified came with 8+8 pin connectors, few BIOS and 1400MHz Boost.
I mean 1400MHz+ will be normal gaming clock with OC and I like that. Probably 75% of cards will be able to reach 1500MHz or even little more for benchmarks.
Lot depend from Power Target and voltage.

Dual bios, better vrm and pcb, better binning, likely higher overclocks for DIY end-users.

Triple BIOS I think came with GTX980 Classified.
I don't know functions of them but I think Triple BIOS.
I only could imagine if someone have luck with silicon and put GTX980 Classified under water, with max voltage or some mod...
He will able to play games on 1500MHz and finish benchmark test on who knows how many MHz...

I Might as well wait, Because it's beginning to look like there's not going to be any Classifieds available very soon for purchase anyway, Unless you want to spend twice the MSRP!

GM204 is not a low end chip, it is considered the highest consumer grade GPU. GM200 will be similar to the Titan which is targeted at enthusiasts/professionals. That's how Nvidia is choosing to market their products now for better or worse. The fact is Titan was an experiment to see if people would pay $1000 for a high end card and it was a success so that's how its going to be. It also doesnt help that AMD isnt putting up much of a fight at that level so they can charge whatever they want.

GM204 is a low end chip, it's just being marketed and sold as the highest end consumer grade GPU. It's not the highest end maxwell chip, GM210 is.

This kind of makes sense. It would explain why several of the manufacturers seem to be skimping by on the quality of components in their pcbs.. it just doesn't feel like a "significant" release. Sure these cards rock, but if GM210 is right around the corner... why wouldn't we wait? Especially if its supposed to be the better half of maxwell. Plus Nvidia will have had time to optimize all of these new technologies by then. Intels Broadwell will probably be close to out at the same time, as well as HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.3 being implemented into new stuff. Not even to mention the new USB. All of the problems everyone is having with X99 will probably be worked out, DDR4 will be cheaper slightly, and M.2 will be in bloom. Next year sounds like a MUCH better year for tech/upgrades.

From my experience Classified cards are nothing to get all worked up about unless your water cooling/ln2 the chip bin method is not too stringent and does not give you better oc capability on air. Unless its for aesthetics or you are going to work the card on something better than air you will probably be just as lucky to get a great overclocking sc or vanilla card. This is unfortunate but it is what it is.

Maybe this round will be different ...for anyone who chooses to wait for classified for better clocks I hope it works out great for them.

The base clock should be in the 1300's in my opinion but OCing is always an option.
Looks nice. I wish it was blue though.
    Sorry I'm stupid

Yeah ditto, I'm hoping for my next build to be black and blue. I just don't like the design of the ACX in either of its generations... the blue is ok, but the stickers and dual fans on top of a bare heat sink just... never appealed to me. I hate that EVERYONE is going to this design :( even if it IS good for cooling it looks sooooooo... cheap

There's always the question of whether warranty will cover this but you can always remove the ACX cooler and the sticker and plastidip the shroud. Plastidip for those who don't know is basically spray paint electrical tape and it's heat resistant and durable while also completely removable.

How much faster is this vs 980 FTW, doesn't look to be much. Unless of course one can overclock it higher.

+1, I've prefer the blower design.

We can't say it's low end... I think GTX980 is mid and GTX970 low-mid class but they offer great performance and low power consumption.
We expect high end card for 700-750$ and premium GM210 for about 1000$.
But I would like to NVIDIA launch cheaper pure gaming version of GM210 but not crippled.
Anyway GTX980 SLI are faster than Titan Black SLI for half price. It's definitely not option for GTX780Ti/Titan Black owners except if someone have money and like to try everything and later to sell. Than OK. But for GTX780Ti owners shouldn't be hardware priority before GM210.
Example upgrade from GTX580 and GTX680 on GTX980 are very nice option. Some people didn't use to pay more than 500-550$ for card.

Wowzers - I hope this card can be pushed past 1600Mhz on air! What do you think? On average, GTX 980 can be pushed to 1450-1550Mhz, so Classified needs to do much better than that!
