I have one, I use it all the time for music, the stuff I have a hard copy of but not a soft copy (like Amazon's AutoRip or digital albums). I get a decent amount of hard copies as I like having a physical disc for some things, and sometimes I happen to find something I want at a store.

As for gaming, I have a couple older games that require a disc, but discs are not really used in gaming anymore.

I have a slot load DVD drive in my tower that converted from an external drive.  It never gets connected (its a USB instead of SATA) except for my annual LAN meets were we install some older games and stuff.  I didn't want to go for the full 5.25 bay drive because space was limited in my C70 build so I bought a 5.25 bracket that held the slim slot load drive and two SSDs. If it wasn't for getting a slot loading drive for super cheap I probably would have avoided installing one all together.

I have a USB drive for laptop and an internal drive on the desktop. For day to day use I pretty much never use the drives, but vital when I'm doing a fresh o/s install every ~6 months. I have multiple Windows o/s, MS Office, a few other software titles I use regularly, and some drivers, all of which are on CD.

I use mine, not every day, but I use it.  Anytime I rip music, or watch a movie it is really handy, much prefer physical copies to streaming content (yes, I'm aware I'm old lol).

Speaking of optical drives, hardware mfg still send out driver CD's. I don't see any hardware mfg sending out USB flash drives containing drivers and software.

I always put them in builds and use them almost daily myself.....

Sure I'd prefer a USB flash drive for speed & capacity but alot of things are still on cd / Dvd or Blurays

The drivers and utilities on those CDs is already several versions out of date even on new products. The only time I ever used a driver CD was when Windows 7 couldn't get the ethernet to work on a new board to be able to a DL the missing driver to make it work.  As a rule I'll find a system with net access and copy the latest drivers over via flashdrive when that is the case, but I admit not everyone has that option on a brand new build.

The driver CD saved me, i messed up and downloaded the wrong Intel LAN driver to my USB flash drive.

I still have a lot of movies on blu ray and once in a while I'll pop one into the disk drive.
