I'm planning a new PC build for this summer, and I've been looking into getting a GTX 980 Ti Hybrid. I'd also like to use a hybrid cooling solution for my CPU, and had a question of fan/radiator placement.
From what I've read, it's optimal to use your fans as intake, so cold air passes through the radiator. It also seems like intake from the front + exhaust from the top and back is the standard case setup.
What is the preferred setup here, then, if I have the GPU's 120mm radiator and either a 120 or 240mm CPU radiator to deal with?
Should I put a 120mm CPU radiator as one front intake and the 120mm GPU cooler as another front intake below it?
Should I put a 240mm CPU radiator as a front intake and put the 120mm GPU cooler as a bottom intake?
Some cases support three 120mm front fans. Would a 240mm on top of a 120mm radiator work there?
Would it be worth thinking about reversing the traditional front-to-back design and intake from the top (where most cases have more fan real estate) and back and exhausting through the front?
Should I ever want to expand to SLI, what should I do? Concede to using the second GPU cooler as exhaust somewhere on the case?
Sorry for asking so many questions, and thanks for taking the time to read.

For the most part it would be the same as the None Ti HYBRID Model. You may find that information here> GeForce GTX 980 HYBRID! or Titan X and 980 hybrid cooler official thread For your CPU I would not use this cooler as you have No Control for the Pump nor Fan. Look into the Corsair H100i or H80i or even the GT Models. This is an EVGA Hybrid Cooler and the Corsair H80i CPU Cooler. Click on images for larger view. * Same Rig with Two EVGA Hybrid Coolers and one Corsair H80i Cooler. Air Flow For us old folks who cannot read the small print.

It's best to have any radiator set up as exhaust if possible. Better to dump the heated air outside the case and not inside. Not the end of the world to have it as intake but not ideal either.

Just to give you an idea from someone who's pretty new to all of this as well, I'll detail what I have done personally and what I plan to do and somethings I have learned. It may depend on your case/setup as well. I have an h100i mounted at the top of my case, exhausting/pulling air for the CPU (fans above radiator pulling air through and out.) They do recommend pushing, but as people have proven/tested, pulling works just as well, few degree's higher, or the push/pull combo if you have the space, I don't think I've ever seen my temps go over 50C, plus, it's much easier to clean this way. I then have the Hybrid cards radiator mounted on the bottom of the case towards the front where I have 2 140MM fans at intake, this is in a pull configuration as well, pulling cool air directly from the lower 140MM fans intake and exhausting directly below. I do plan to stack another Hybrid in time, my original plan was to mount that radiator to the back of the case as exhaust, however, upon testing to see if it would fit in my case, and due to the radiator not being a complete square at 120MM, I cannot get the radiator to fit in this space because of the H100i radiator at the top blocking it's way. My only other option now is to mount it to the front of the case, similarly shown in bcavnaugh's photos. The reason I mounted my GPU to the bottom is because I did not want to interrupt the cases overall air flow by intaking cool air through the radiators, making it hot and pulling throughout the case, plus the space is available so why not. I'll probably end up removing the fan entirely from the second GPU's radiator and mount the radiator to the lower 140MM fans spot on the case, which in my case, will not fit if I leave the fan attached, and leave the upper 140MM fan blowing throughout the case. I'll test this stuff out with temps though whenever I get the second GPU, so, we'll see.

I bought a 980 Hybrid radiator for my Titan X and recently switched from exhaust to intake, the temps have dropped from 71°C Max to 58°C on Witcher 3 (the most GPU intensive game that I've found yet) ; this is with the radiator fan at low RPMs as I find it very noisy otherwise and an OV of 1.230 mV, lower excursion might be seen at full speed. Also in my case ( Carbide AIR 540) I have two 140mm as top exhaust, very close to the GPU radiator, meaning that heat is carried away really quickly out of the system.

Thanks for all of the pictures, they're very helpful. I think I'll do something very similar.
One question, though. When you had just one GPU, is there a reason why you didn't put the CPU radiator up front, like you did for the second GPU? Does it not fit?

I think for CORSAIR SP120 White LED High Static Pressure fan is good option for Hybrid radiator? Case will shine and people will see nice Hybrid cooler. Maybe is even push-pull good option. Tubes could be placed nice I think even if radiator is on back side of case. Only is important not to bend them wildly.

No for the most part, I knew that I was getting a second card to run SLI so that is why I put the CPU in the rear in this case. I could not mount a Radiator on the Top even with only one Fan, and I like to run Push/Pull.

It's actually quite fascinating trying to figure out the best placement, push pull, etc. with these. I guess unless you have a large case you're kinda limited. I have the TT Core V71 ( http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00002231) and am trying to plan it all out with 2 in sli and a Corsair H100i on the cpu. I like bcavnaugh's set up...I'm going to try and not use the cage though(it comes out of mine) and see if they'll reach the front of the case though. And my h100i radiator is mounted on top as an exhaust with a 140 fan exhausting out the very back.

Even with the H100i up top you seem to have lots of room.

Oh yeah it does. Would you think I should take out the 200mm fans in the front and match them up with the hybrid's radiator fan size or 140's? They are where you have those 2 140 front intake fans.

Taking a closer look at your pictures, I can't quite tell how the radiators are attached to the drive cage. Are they secured in there? Did you have to purchase anything extra to mount them? What should I look for in a case that could pull off a similar setup? Right now I'm looking at the Corsair Graphite 780T, but I'm not sure what dimensions or specifications to look for.

I see that you have your fans in the drive bays however can you even close your case off or do you just leave the side panel off? Also I was helping my bro build a new computer and he bought the Hybrid 980TI and his case is huge but for some reason in his case the Antec 1200 V3 it has two exhaust fans and the Hybrid radiator does not fit whatsoever it bumps into the top fan. Sorry no pictures at this time if you go to newegg and look at the pictures of the case of the two exhaust fans you will see. The only way we are thinking we can fit in the case is if we had much like mother board standoffs if they have the same type of thing for case fans so that we can avoid hitting the top fan and be able to install the radiator to the exhaust?

Are you planning on using an AiO CPU cooler as well? If not, you can mount the radiator on the rear 120/140mm fan spot, or on one of the top 120mm spots. It looks like you've got three spots on the top, so you might be able to mount a CPU and the GPU cooler there. The best placement for the radiator is above the card, with the hose connections oriented on the lower side. This is to keep air bubbles from forming or getting stuck in the pump.

I wanted to go with this setup: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming GT ATX MB Noctua NH-D15 Intel i5-6600K However, Noctua's website states that for the Noctua NH-D14 and the Noctua NH-D15 " The cooler is extending over the first PCI-E x16 slot, so please use the other available PCI-E slot(s) for your video card(s)." My optional cooler choice would be NZXT Kraken X61 280mm. If I went with the NZXT Kraken X61 280mm how would that affect your answer?

You should be fine. The case does have the space for either three 120mm fans or two 140mm ones.

I am trying to figure out a solution to a similar setup. i want positive airflow and a generally cool (temp) case. i would prefer to have a positive air flow case. i have gone through the trouble of using black masking take and taping all little nooks and gaps (all hidden, cant see from the outside). Parts: storm scout 2 currently: (2) nf-s12a fans as intake on front. (1) nf-s12a intake fan on side panel. (2) nf-f12 on h100i. (1) nf-f12 on hybrid 980ti h100i (2) gtx 980ti hybrid (2) SSD (1) HDD right now i only have 1 hybrid kit installed (top card). the bottom card is reference. i have the h100i on the top as an exhaust. i have the hybrid 980ti on the rear as an exhaust. i am thinking i will either add the 2nd hybrid to the side panel if it fits). or to the front of the case. i would rather ad it to the front so i can take the side panel off whenever i need to. 3 issues with front mount, 1) i would have to dremel out the top HDD cage . 2) i dont know if i would then keep it as an intake or convert it to an exhaust. 3) im pretty sure the tubes would be below the card (and they should be above).

bcavnaugh My GPU Temps never above 45C and CPU never above 58C The AIO Hybrid
2 questions. shouldnt your cpu rad be flipped. i was told that you dont want the hoses on top since that where any air will settle. and , how hot does your top card get (to the touch). i just got my 980ti sli setup running. 1 rad in the rear as exhaust. and the lower cards rad is in the front of the case as exhaust (in the same place as your upper front rad). the air coming out of the front rad is warm, not hot. the lower card and back plate is warm. pretty much normal. but the top card is hot, like i wouldnt be able to leave my hand on the back plate very long kind of hot. my rear rad is flipped compared to yours, the hoses are on bottom. that hose piece is right above the warm card so that piece is really warm as well. the air coming out of that rad is hot. the temps are in the 70's if i use a single fan. if i connect 2 fans in push/pull at 100% then the temp will stay in the low 60's. i just feel like it should be running A LOT cooler, even for being the top card. i would expect both to stay in the 50's with stock fans (no push pull, no 100% on dedicated fan headers).

Ambient temps inside case with nicely installed AIO CORSAIR Hydro on CPU and AIO EVGA Hybrid on GPU, both in exhaust configuration are better than 5x 120mm case fans with non reference dual cooler on GPU and Tower Cooler on CPU. One AIO for CPU and one AIO for GPU save you money on case fans, less fans=less dust and temperatures inside case are below 30C, very similar to room temps. And most important thing... temperature of hardware CPU and GPU is much lower. Special GPU. That's weird... difference between Air Cooler and Liquid AIO Cooler are much bigger with graphic cards than processors. Because some huge Tower coolers are very close to best AIO CPU Coolers and again people rather invest in CPU AIO than GPU AIO and importance is same. Only I think fans on picture above should be in different direction... Front fans on Hybrids exhaust and back fans on CORSAIR exhaust as well. Or at least fans on H80i should be exhaust... Why they push air inside case? Only to hot air go on top fans? That's not necessary, hot air should not enter in case at all. I suppose ambient temps are not so big and fans on H80i could be turned in exhaust direction.

Quick question. EVGA recommends placing the radiator above the card with the tubing at the bottom. The thing is, I would have to twist the tubing in a very uncomfortable way. Would I be at a disadvantage if I were to put the radiator at the top of my case?

Welcome to the forums! If you have the space to mount the radiator there, that's fine. Mounting it horizontally, with the tubes facing down will allow any bubbles to rise to the top, where they won't get pulled into the pump.

Any position should be fine, but if the pump gets noisy because of air in the system you should better mount the rad the way EVGA is recommending you to.

Could you please post the link of the 4Way SLI Hybrid? Another question - I saw your push/pull config for the Hybrid SLI. Which fan's did you use instead of the original one? Thanks.
