After seeing these temps I'm pretty sure the future for a good combo of OC + silence is the hybrid coolers.

I'll wait for one of those on Pascal.

Don't judge against others, as it may just be a fluke..

Do you have extra TIM lying around?  If so, take the cooler off and check the TIM and make sure it is good.    If not, order some Artic MX-4 or Gelid Extreme, and take the cooler off after it arrives.  There are only 5 screws holding the cooler on, and you shouldn't need to remove the heatspreader at all.  It won't void your warranty, so that isn't anything to worry about.

I have two of them in sli and top one is idling 47, while second 37 with 15% fan speed at stock rates.

Basically in sli top card is getting really hot (up to 15 degrees more than bootom one).
I noticed backplate gets really hot (it burns) and has significant impact on top card.

The best noise / temperature fan curve so far for me:

0-60 - 15% or 20%
60-75 - 45%
75-100 - 65%

In this way in Witcher 3 top card gets always 65% fan speed, while bottom 45%. Noise level is not so bad, much more enjoyable than both cards at 65%. Temps on this configuration: top card up to 83, bottom up to 71.
Still these temps made me a little worried because I prefer quiet and chilly rigs - now im having stove.
That's a pity that Hybrids looks so bad in sli + poor availability:( I begin to understand why ppl want them so bad! Custom loop is something out of my skills.

P.S. I was a little surprised when today in wendell's  KFA2 GTX 980Ti HOF SLi Build I noticed just 58 degrees in Heaven but everything was outside the case:
https://youtu.be/cM0GeCuIaTM?t=5m30s
Maybe 3 smaller fans > two big fans? Or there is something wrong with classifieds backplate / heat direction - what do you think?

I remember the days when having 85 c temps in SLi were acceptable (was common with my 670s and 680s).

Backplate is just a heat spreader. A side panel fan can do wonders in heat dissipation as I noticed moving from a 650d case that had my 980ti idle at 58 c to a HAF x that idles at 32-35 c. It also reduced my load temperature from 81 c down to 70 c in Witcher and benching. In less intensive games temperature never breaks 68 c.

When I had sc+ and classified this allowed temps of 75 c top and 70 c bottom card. So my suggestion is to put a side panel fan and possibly install a kraken on top card. That is what I am going to do when my second classified is here.

That seems like a really good plan but for me right now aesthetics and look is much more important than temperatures or even performance.
I choosed Classy mainly because of their terrific look with evga sli bridge.
I never gonna get back to side panel without window and additional fan mount.

What I gonna try is raising my intake and exhaust fans during gaming (it still should be quieter than 65% in Classy).

IIRC something between 1392-1418. Mine usually starts above 1400 and then downclocks to something like 1390's.

40-50 above my Hybrids, about what I figured it would be. Thanks.

I have a question about the BIOS switch on the Classy. I switched to LN2 to make use of the higher power target and the LED on the card is red instead of green as it is supposed to be. But in Precision X or MSI Afterburner 115% is still the max even after rebooting a few times. Any ideas?

The only thing I didn't try is to reinstall the Nvidia drivers, but I don't know if this is needed for this. I had a GTX 780 Ti before where I flashed another BIOS for a higher power target and it worked instantly and there was no driver reinstall needed.

That has a lot to do with the fan profile being the change on the other bios selections. You need to load a different, third party bios.

I downloaded both the normal and the LN2 bios (from my card) with GPU-Z and saved it on my desktop. I compared both with Maxwell Bios Tweaker II and the Power Table settings are different too. It should go to 142%, but it simply doesn't.

Hmm, ok, that should definitely switch.

Could you try afterburner (fully remove precision) and see what it says?

It doesn't matter if I use Precision X, Afterburner or Nvidia Inspector. All these tools still show me a max. Power Target of 115% when switch is set to LN2. But I will try reinstalling the Nvidia driver when I'm home from work. Let's see if that helps.

What are safe volts for classified under water? Is 1.281 ok? Should I mod a bios or apply it through Overboost in Precision X?
My classified under water can run 1536/8200 with 1.237 volts applied through Overboost. However, I don't have a MM to check actual volts plus anything higher crashes the card. I tried 1550 with 1.25 volts in overboost and it crashes. ASIC of 70.3%. Temps stay under 55 C w/ my Kraken during benching. Gaming is more like 50 C.

Ideas?

Some people sold EKWB 780 Classy waterblock with previous cards and upgrade on GTX980Ti Classified.
Now they will buy again same water block... Because 780 Classy is compatible with 980Ti Classified.
Fantastic for someone who have 780 Classified and water block and want to upgrade card.

Well I finally got one card still waiting to order the second. Silicon lottery was not good to me "ASIC 64%" but I did manage to get some testing in on air before putting under water. 1523 was the best I could get. I didn't really push the memory that much but still got some good results out of Fire Strike considering my acic score. I now have the card under water thanks to JGCPOP using my old EK 980 WB. So far 1544 is my best but haven't had time to push it harder. As we have learned, extra volts don't help out these Maxwell's very much unless your super cold.
Here are my air results,

Ln2 bios and 1.2125 volts. I max the fans out and reload fresh drivers, seems to help if you crash a lot during testing.

I can bench 1534/8200 w/ 1.212 volts and LN2 bios on my ASIC of 70.3% which is under water. I will try reducing the memory to see if I can push the core any further.

I was wanting to buy a 980 TI classified, but after reading this thread, I think maybe it's not a good idea.

All this custom liquid cooling is not my bag, i casually overclock my 970SSC and I enjoy doing it, but it's nothing heavy or major.

I think I will just buy a 980 Ti Hybrid, that'll run cool and hopefully I can get some good overclocks out of it, and if not, the stock clocks on it are still going to be good.

Scarlet-Tech
halflife86
because im at 50%fan idling at 43 and others are at 20%fan idling at mid 30s

Don't judge against others, as it may just be a fluke..

Do you have extra TIM lying around?  If so, take the cooler off and check the TIM and make sure it is good.    If not, order some Artic MX-4 or Gelid Extreme, and take the cooler off after it arrives.  There are only 5 screws holding the cooler on, and you shouldn't need to remove the heatspreader at all.  It won't void your warranty, so that isn't anything to worry about.

Would definitely go with GELID.

I've owned 3 generations of Classies on air and just switched to the HYBRID. I can tell you it was the best decision I could have made.
