You should be boosting higher than 1367. Mine is in the mid 60's and it boosts to 1380 like veelckoo.

you were right:

That's more like it.

FTW+   step-up, 71.9%,  1404.8.

Will try OC this weekend. Card runs cool, running Metro LL under 59c with default auto fan profile set in afterburner! Ambient was around 68F (20c) in the basement.

My FTW+ with everything at stock will downclock to around 1290 when running furry donut v2 @ 1280x720 and is limited by power. With power target at 115% it gets up to 1354 clock, but still not close to the 1404 default boost. What other settings are you guys changing to test overclocks with furry donut v2? I can't get stock speeds with that test! Games are fine with full load at 1404, guessing it's just a setting I'm using differently for the furry donut..

So all in all, I'm not amazed by the quality of the 970 FTW, especially at 390 euros. Imo Evga should at least for their FTW series invest in better parts instead of just doing marketing (acx 2.0 50% cooler, 30% more quiet, compared to WHAT?). I get that the cool thing about Evga cards is that you can change the cooler without garantuee loss, but they still should try to improve the stock cooler and not move backwards. How about 100mm FDB fans for the FTW? Now that would be premium and an innovation.

Sorry for old thread-necro, but this was the 1st thing coming up on Google for "GTX 970 ASIC" :)

I had two SC ACX2.0, first had some defect (Black Screens) and I put it to RMA.
It had an ASIC of 72% and boosted to bin 64, 1380 at 1.212V. (Although this #*!!! of a card didn't even hold the 1380 long in Heaven Benchmark)

Second SC ACX2.0 back from RMA is flawless, but ASIC a little less, 70%. As you correctly concluded, this one boosts one bin less to 1367. Interestingly it only goes up to 1.200V so which must mean that ASIC quality seems not only affect the max. boost bin but also max voltage. Interestingly, this card although with only 70% ASIC overclocks nicely, 1500 core and +475 memory and no probs in Heaven, 3DMark etc. (Surprised me since the first card obviously didn't get ANYWHERE near 1500 and this with higher voltage)

The card I got now is basically very nice but I agree that the cooler of those cards is....well..."meh". In heavy stress testing (with WIDE open power limit and modded BIOS of course so it doesn't throttle:) gets to 76/77....in normal games low 70s. But seems that unless I do stress testing where the card pulls 206W temps and fan noise is..."ok"....better than the first card I had.

By the way, the first SC ACX2.0 (with a lower serial number) had a cooler I have NEVER seen on an image of those cards. It had copper colored piped and the pipes were NOT "misaligned", it had three 6mm heatpipes nicely touching the GPU.

THIS card seems to have this type of cooler with metal/nickel colored pipes I guess where only two pipes touch.  (Haven't really checked but it looks like it). So I'd say the first card (while it had some other problem) had a better cooler since it had the same temps (or one deg less) at higher voltage while this card has lower max. voltage but gets as hot. Since it already gets to 76/77 at Heaven Benchmark at 1500 I wouldn't want to add more voltage, so in this case the cooler (noise) might indeed limit, but then I am more than fine with 1500.

You don't test your power limits with OC Scanner, Furmark etc.. because all those "burner" programs will limit your card *big time* BY DEFAULT, they're in a blacklist within the drivers itself as far I know. Very bad idea to run these for checking if and when your card is throttling, because it WILL throttle. The best test still Unigine Heaven in my opinion. (Firestrike DEMO is also throttling, but the rest of the Firestrike tests not.) I am seeing that if Unigine Heaven is not throttling at Ultra/Extreme it doesn't throttle in any game. (Obviously, out of the box with the original BIOS the card throttles already when you just look at it funny, even with 110% power target).#

Edit: Getting those cards (and I am sure the FTW is similar there) to 1500+ and most importantly KEEPING 1500+ without throttling in games like BF4, GTA V etc....definitely is an art and needs some (BIOS) modding knowledge, no question about this. It's an "art" because first, the voltage regulators don't allow to simply adjust voltage with Afterburner, they're volt-locked as well..and then of course the less than overwhelming thermals and fan noise if you don't want to exceed, say 76C. That being said, I am satisfied with my card I got back from RMA.

I'll post my 970 data if the OP still wants more data.

Currently running a custom BIOS though - I'm guessing he'll want a stock BIOS run.

I don't think the OP has really looked at this thread in a long time.

I'm curious as to what kind of clocks you're getting with your custom bios though, and what settings you're running in it.

Running a custom waterloop with a full-cover waterblock. Temps haven't touched 45c yet under full load.

Well, currently I'm running this custom bios:

- PCIE motherboard slot power limit increased from 66w to 75w. Since the card most likely pulls power symmetrically, this means it can now pull 75x3 (225w) instead of 66x3 (198w) like the first BIOS.

- Power limits changed from 170w default/187w max slider to 225w default / 250w max slider. Since you can physically only pull 225w from the card, you should leave power slider at default.

- The card won't temperature throttle until 89c instead of 79c. The 91c shutoff feature is still there. You will not reach that temperature with 225w anyway unless you put the card in a case with no fans.

My first goal was to completely eliminate the power throttling issue before I really start pushing my overclock. I was about to be satisfied with the above bios until I stumbled upon this thread and started asking  about his crazy custom bios. Now I'll probably switch to his bios soon, which has even higher power limits.

I'm still slightly scared though :P because if you read my current bios description thoroughly, you'd notice that 's bios goes above the safe limits as described by my current bios.

The only actual overclocking I've done so far is +76 core, which passes stress tests easily.

Mine wouldn't run that high.  And if it did, it didn't increase core clocks, power usage or temps.....1.275v seemed to be the limit.  And my cards work WELL.  lol

Not yet. I asked around at ocn. The card scores well in benchmarks and does not throttle in game. I just don't get it. How much juice does this card need geez..
