Ah i wont be trying it tonight. to late to be making noise and working on it lol.

Not sure the screws holding it to the HS will help much. im more inclined to think its the actual bit of the fan thats spins around the stationary part thats to loose or to tight. So inside the fan itself.

Fell free to try though. I wont be looking tat it till 2morrow.

I found that the initial whining noise that came out of my classify was not actually from the fan, but I do have a slight fan rattle as well. The fan rattle an only be heard if I put my head closer to my comp, but can not be heard over the other comp fans. The whining may be a form of coil whine. It is not the same sound which is produced when the frames per second of a game go in the hundreds or thousands. It is extremely loud, very annoying, high pitched, and can be easily be heard through headphones.

Is the whining a different sound compared to the humming/whining in the vid i posted ?
you will likely needo t listen to it through headphones as its hard to hear properly through speakers.

If the sound is difficult to hear despite the low quality recording device, then it's not the same noise my classify makes. That sound can bleed an eardrum over a short period of time and can easily be heard over whatever sound is being played on headphones unless a person is listening at deafening volume.

Im already running the 115% enabled LN2 bios on the 3788 classified card. It arrived already swtiched over.

Also i fail to understand how the bios/software can effect a mechanical rattle/issue with the fans.

Re:GTX 780 SC ACX fan noises 2013/08/27 06:52:56 (permalink)
I have the quoted part number GTX 780 ACX with this fan noise at 78% fan speed
I have RMA'd it and received the replacement today so will check it this evening.

BUT the RMA isn't a new replacement. Came in a brown box.

So will your update sort out my fan noise?
If so I may keep my NEW one as opposed a possible refurbishment.

How long did you have the card before you made the RMA?

The 'Ticket' was raised within 30 days regarding another aspect of the card and the noise related RMA just outside the 30 days but within the same ticket.  I didn't recognise the noise as a GPU issue and was replacing the PSU ( a Seasonic Platinum 860W) twice over before this thread and others pointed me to the ACX cooler being the cause.

Update on the RMA --> worse than the existing card. ACX 'screeching' was not as loud but it was more prolonged and over TWO specific points; 1. the idle/start range and 2. at around 73-79% rpm.

Sending RMA back until at last they send a tested but noise free one.

TBH i think tis so wide spread that it will be mroe hassle than its worth tryign to keep RMA'ing tillu get a silent one.

Its the only thing i feel bad about with this EVGA product. It is my opinion that should a manufacture lay claim for a silent/very quiet yet high performing card, they should at the very least find such an obviose issue within the first couple hundread samples that they test.

like i said i personaly dont feel it worth going throug hthe RMA process and going through the silicon lottery again. but it has dented my opinion of EVGA in terms of quality.

Lol, the noise is rather annoying. I listened to your's a1solarnova and mine sounds a little different. More annoying I guess you can say. What sucks is it will do it at lower rpms. When I say lower I mean below 80% ran speed -_-

My 2nd classified had severe sound issue. I had to rma because I could not stand the noise anymore, and evga cs told me that a supervisor would test a refurb card to make sure nothing was wrong before sending it to me. The card I received was lower asic quality (74% compared to the 79% I sent in), still can not overclock at all, but runs silently which resolves the issue.

I can live with a refurb if noise free :)
May be I'll just to my original card with a custom fan profile to skip past the noisy range

I've decided to return the RMA I had that was worse and keep my original card.
Too much hassle to keep replacing. I always have option to RMA later if it gets worse.
The update gave access to lower fan speeds but mine makes noises at 78% so didn't help
I've customized the fan profile to skip 70-80% fan speed.

How do i see ifg the update was successful? the window closes so quickly. What BIOS VErsion should i have after the update?
I bought a new card, after my first card had issues, but now the new card is occasionally making the same noises again... not as bad as my first card, but its annoying. Especially for such a high priced card.

Use GPU-Z to check Bios version.
It takes you onto the latest bios ....3A...that allows fan speed to go as low as 26% (??) in precision x.

Didn't solve my noise problem though.

Wow I'm pretty surprised to here this.  I got my GTX 760 ACX and I have to turn the fans all the way up to 85% before they are even considered audible...  I hope you get this fixed it is a really great cooler and IMO competes with the TF3 and DCUII coolers....

Yeah... that "update" didn't fix a damn thing unless you consider lowering the minimum fan speed to 29% from 39% a fix...

Very disappointed in my 780 w/ ACX cooler -- $800 for a card I'll have to RMA after 3 weeks usage. Sweet.

This is kinda funny :pp my 670 had problems with fan rattle... and now these new "quality" ACX coolers got fan rattle too.

Seems like EVGA doesnt care if their fans rattle...

i never had any issues with my fans yet ( just got the card a few days ago) i updated to this anyways. i noticed that the min fan speed cap is now 29% when before fan speed wound never go under 39%  i also think it now goes to 100% forgot where it capped at before. think 85%

either way, is this the only change to the bios? or whatever this update was? also where can i revert back to my stock bios that i had before (running 03G-P4-2784-KR) :) thanks
