It's sitting in my freezer wrapped in a huge zip-lock bag. LOL

The cpu is scaling nicely too. I think I'll leave it in there. :)

My 980x is still climbing! I'm taking baby steps with it though. It seems the more I play with this processor, the happier & amazed I get!

BTW- this 4.8Ghz is on air, with the stock cooler and it's still within specs!!

Hot diggity dogg!!

Once I find the wall on this proc, I'll do a 3DmarkVantage run. I'm thinking 5Ghz shouldn't be a problem? :)

Nah, I'm only kidding the pc isn't in the freezer as we speak. ;) I'm using a 2 ton heat exchanger to achieve these very low temps on air @ 4.8Ghz with the stock cooler.

Once I iron out the kinks to my Rheem heat exchanger.  I'll post pics of the entire apparatus. It's a blower motor rated between 1,000-2,000 CFM. I'm using the motor in 'vacuum' mode to suck all the heat out of the chassis.

The massive vacuum draw coming from the heat exchanger will be pulling air out from the three GPU exhaust ports on the back. The inertia from the vacuum is so ginormous that it's making the gpu fan sing like a twin turbo on NOS, while set to auto fan control. I'm sure I can achieve lower temps than this once it's all said and done.

My goal is to hit 5Ghz on air, then I'll start playing with some benches. I'll be out of here for an hour to pick up some materials for my cooling fab process.

I'm waiting for you to ask me to prove that this machine is not liquid cooled.

I'll be setting the timer on your reply.

No H-70's, or any fancy water cooling loop...it's just the stock cooler from Intel. ;)

Uh all I asked for was a simple LinX run with those clocks with HT enabled. I'm curious as to stability and temps under a real load. But if it's too much trouble....

Here's two 580's at 950 on air, CPU at an easy 4.5 with a lowly H50...

Here you go Hemi- Screen shot below is with X64 bit; 6 cores and 12 threads X 5 passes. AIDA64 reports a max temp of 85C +/- 2c. However my digital infared/laser temp gun reads 76.2c at the top of the metallic base on the stock CPU cooler. CPU fan on auto and it scaled a little bit, as in, not louder than a whisper.

Interesting to note that gigaflops are higher when 6 core/ 6 threads were used, as opposed to 6 cores 12 threads.

Here's a summary of six threads @ 10 passes:
Intel(R) LINPACK 64-bit data - LinX 0.6.4

Performance Summary (GFlops)

I've got an H-70 sitting on my desk unopened, not sure if I need it anymore. I've been benching for a couple of days now, and like the results that I've been getting. The stock CPU cooler I would say, performs better than an H-50 in my honest opinion at 4.762Ghz. The H-50 is great for those that want a quick stable way up to 4Ghz, but at 4.5Ghz and above it lacks the thermal capacity to keep the 980X within reasonable temps.

Does anyone have the H-70 with a 980X, and how does it perform @ 4.5Ghz? I'm thinking about returning mine if it isn't up to par.

Hmmm lets seee...minuscule problem size and temps rising rapidly out of control. I'll bet if you ran a 25K problem size stress test (the stability standard) it wouldn't make it through one cycle. This isn't about coolers it's about passing a stability test.

He's got 24 GB, so 25K is a tad on the low side for him.

True but the point is more or less running the CPU long enough to actually heat up without allowing a cool down cycle every 12 seconds.
I know what the stock cooler can do. I have one. LOL

But, as you said, he probably won't even pass one cycle. :P

Well there's no doubt he's got a good chip. Luck of the draw. Mine easily runs up to 4.6 with fairly low voltages and temps hardly break 80C. But any higher than that, besides just booting and running a CPU-Z validate or a simple graphics bench, just requires too much voltage to bother with. It's not worth frying a 1K processor.

...wouldn't make it through one cycle? 25K problem size?

Almost flat-lined @ 75C max temp...."temps rising rapidly out of control?"

Kick up that 980X to 4.76Ghz with the H-50 and do the same. One for one exchange, I'll bet you couldn't even validate 4.75Ghz. If you want five passes of the above test, give me at least one equal to it, without deviation with your H-50. ;)

25K takes close to 5 GB, which is standard for 6GB systems. You need to scale it up for 24 GB. Else, there's not much use for stress testing.

I switch memory sticks often. I'm running 12GB right now, so whatever you see above is the standard default for my system.

There is no way your temps are LOWER with the same settings with a larger memory amount. You've changed your settings and it's obvious from the numbers especially the Gflops. Tsk tsk.

You don't have a magical system we know exactly the range of where your numbers should be and they are not. Oh well.

Did you not read my reply to you?

Quoted from post #76-
"However my digital infared/laser temp gun reads 76.2c at the top of the metallic base on the stock CPU cooler."

This was even before I did the test you asked. Now go and validate your CPU @ 4.75Ghz or stay on the porch if the kitchen's too hot for you. ;)
