Hello, Sorry if this has been posted before but i didn't find it on forum. I bought an EGVA GTX 1070 FTW on August 4, just registered it on warranty page a few minutes ago. I have been playing Rise of the Tomb Raider and i cannot see over 7050 MB of memory usage on Riva Tuner OSD. Also HWiNFO 64 tool is reporting a maximum of 7540 MB D3D memory maximum usage after 4 hours of gameplay. I have also checked a lot of youtube videos of this card with this game and nobody had over 7050 MB usage with 1070s, while the 1080s go way up to maximum. This game uses the whole video memory buffer. The more usage on vram, the less on system ram, it is proportional. Is it possible that the 1070 have 7 or 7.5 GB of fast memory, just like the 970 had only 3.5? Below is a picture of HWinfo64. I will upload ingame ss tomorrow, it's late and i want to get to sleep. Hope this does not affect business of EVGA but if true, it's not good, although 7 GB is still enough for the next 2 years. I can post ss with my gfx card in system if i am mistaken for a troll or something.

Memory speed wouldn't affect usage. The problem was that the 970 would lose 1p% performance when the last 512MB was in use. It's probably a setting or driver issue of some sort.

Nvidia would be insane to repeat their 970 shenanigans. Reviewers would also have spotted any discrepancies by now. There are many reasons why a 1070 could be using less VRAM than a 1080.

+1. When there is a lower amount of vram more memory is sent to the Windows swap file/hard drive/SSD.

OK, so i tested again, reached a maximum of 7309 MB. I guess this is the limit of the GPUs processing power..
I think i remember seing on YouTube some 8GB AMD RX 480 also not filling that frame buffer in RotTR.
The card by the way is very good, keeping 1950 Mhz stable, in game, factory setting. The cooler is good also. Maybe the bigger fans are worth the price over the SC edition.
This thread can be closed from my part. I will still keep doubting the 8 GB until proved otherwise. :)

What's your resolution? When I play that game at 4k it does maxes out the 8 gigs.

Download the Final Fantasy benchmark, its free and you can set a custom resolution for benchmark. I did something crazy like 7000x3000 and it loaded without an issue. Though my monitor only displayed a small portion of it at 1080p, was fun dragging it around the screen lol

Interesting thread over at NVIDIA DevTalk. Users testing memory bandwidth find that it is only 190-200 GB/s in the first 5GB (logs posted are of tests capped to 5GB for some reason).
